My very favorite piece of Hammock Gear gear is my 12' w/doors dyneema tarp. I also have three quilts and love them all. I live in Columbus and whenever I get anything from them I just go by their shop to save on shipping and I'm supporting my local company. :-)
Looks like a nice setup for those of us that want to make a step up in quality and don’t want to break the bank. I’ll most likely be looking into one of these after The holidays for my setup next year. I mainly car camp but wanted to get a better setup. This will definitely do it.
Please do a compare/contrast video of DW Chameleon vs hammock gear w bug net hammocks. E.g Real weights, real world use, better bug net approach, etc. We know they are close and similar, but it'd be nice to hear the subtle differences.
Nice! I just watched a video a few days ago with someone using this new hammock from Hammock Gear. Looks Good and Good Price! Michigan would be a good place to test it. 👍😂😂
Looks good. I am thinking of HG without the net. That net does not look too bad though. HG has all of the little D-rings thought out well, which is nice for closing a hammock that has no net. That way if the wind blows hard your stuff does not end up half-way down the trail.
Awesome video I do like the fact that it comes with a bug net what is a surprising is the heart attack price of $115 because I just got myself a grand trunk Skeeter beeter Pro unfortunately the only thing it does not have is the Ridgeline and I got that hammock for $65
Hey sintax, do you think the Hammock Gear - Hammocks are the same quality as my Dream Hammock Sparrow or the Dutch Chameleon. Like you I have used their quilts for 7 years now and love them. I just REALLY LIKE my Dream Hammock. Thanks for the info.
I'm really digging this hammock. Looking for a decent upgrade from a cheap Amazon special. And this has everything I was looking for. Did you ever do a follow up vid of this one after you've used it a few times?
So question: since the bug net zips off entirely, does Dutchware off the winter zip covers like they do for the chameleon? Or can you not entirely remove it from the zipper track? Its a nice looking hammock!
Hey Sintax thanks for the review! I just got the hammock and underquilt. I tested it out and I am having a hard time getting my underquilt to stay under me! Would you be able to give some advice for that?
How do you like it? Got some use yet? Thinking of picking one up myself still searching out different opinions. Haven’t been in any hammock. So definitely want to get into that the right route
I love it. Had three trips with it now. First night out was rough. Takes getting used to. Now, i sleep better than at home. Check out shugemery’s channel on how to set up. Helped a lot.
Thanks for the review. I’m looking at buying one of these or a Chameleon as my first hammock. I don’t know which way I lay yet so like the ability to lay both ways. Which would you recommend?
The general rule of thumb is 83% of the hammocks length. Since this is an 11' hammock, and HG knows their stuff, I can almost guarantee that the ridgeline is 108 inches. For sleeping, I should have corrected the straps a bit more, which would tighten it up a bit.
@@sintax77 Im aware of the 83% guideline, however, most 11' hammocks come with 110" RL's (83% of 132", rounded up) not 108". One easy way for me to judge the RL length from videos is the amount of sit height one has. You seem to have a good amount of room above your head with the HG Hammock RL, more than your other hammocks like the Chameleon or the Blackbird, which leads me to believe that HG is using a shorter RL. I'm seeing a trend of Zippered net hammocks here recently where the RL is less than the 83% guideline. I gotta say, I'm a fan or deeper sag (I'm the founder of Sheltowee Hammocks) and incorporate a shorter RL in my hammocks.
Alex Gash I just received mine today. I tried measuring the ridgeline. It’s about 107 or 108 inches, so shorter than many. It’s pretty comfy for sure. How long are the Sheltowee ridgelines?
Would you pick this one or the half-zip dutchware which is the same hexon 1.6 same weight and same price? Not sure which one to pick. Is the half zip asym?
Not to mention I recently purchased last year well not so recent a hammock which is 11 foot and it was measured twice just to be certain that I was not seeing things a hammock that I got from Walmart for my cousin and that was only and it did come with a bug net just really cheapand it did come with a bug net just really cheap e ass suspension so I had to change all that over. The hammock is self very comfy
Which hammock would you say you enjoy and use the most for three season now that you have had the pleasure to sleep/camp using many models and brands? Thanks!
I'm a minimalist at heart, so if I could only have one hammock, it would be the Dutchware Half-wit with Hexon 1.0 fabric. 10 oz, comfy, and gets the job done. Certainly not for everyone though.

I'm so glad to see reviews of this hammock appearing. I have one ordered and cannot wait to get into it! Looking forward to more of your thoughts.

Considering the bugs located north of the 49th parallel, a bug net should be mandatory. Great video, I've been looking for a good hammock.
Looks like another great product from Hammock Gear. Love my quilts especially my winter set. Take care, Al

Thanks for the info video. My wife and I are switching to hammocks and the Hammock Gear with removable neat is what we have decided on.

Looks very similar to my Trail Lair hammock (minus the side pouch) from Jared at Simply Light Designs.
What if you like a more tight hang? does the ridge line keep it in that same dip angle?

Looking to buy my first hammock, trying to decide between this Hammock Gear, Kammock Roo Double, Hummingbird Double, DD Frontline and ENO DoubleNest
Looks great! I wish they offered it in 10'
I'm sure stormcrow could be persuaded lol
Jason It's very similar to my Dangerbird.
I'm really digging this hammock. Looking for a decent upgrade from a cheap Amazon special. And this has everything I was looking for. Did you ever do a follow up vid of this one after you've used it a few times?
I'm really enjoying it, it's quite comfortable - you can see it in action on my feature length trip vid here: th-cam.com/video/9mgeTfiJDtA/w-d-xo.html

It does not zip off entirely, no. For this type of hammock I would use the Dutchware winter sock.
Hey, I'm new to hammock-ing and had a few questions. Would like to get in touch!
Nice, that seems great to me. Thank you.
So does it still hold true that a double layer hammock is best in mosquito areas?
Nice set up
did you ever do a post sleep review?
Hey Sintax thanks for the review! I just got the hammock and underquilt. I tested it out and I am having a hard time getting my underquilt to stay under me! Would you be able to give some advice for that?
Nice hammock. Ordered one today based on this review. Seems like a great, lightweight hammock.

looks like another integrated bug net hammock with a good deep sag 😏any idea of the length of the RL? that info isn't listed on their product page.

Can mosquitos bite through the 1.6? This looks tempting.

This seems a lot like the no longer available ridge outdoors hammock
It needs an integrated ridge line organizer, and whoopie sling suspension, then it would be close to perfect.
You can add both. They offer the RLO for $20 and the whoopies you can add during checkout.
Looks nice
Great video thanks
I like the hammock and the price is really good. I was wondering if you’d ever thought of doing a review on an Amok Dramur.
Did you get a new camera? This looks like 4K
I filmed it on my GH4 at 4K, but downscaled it to 1080. I've been posting my recent feature length trip videos in full 4K though.
sintax77 ah, I thought something was different 👍

If that isn't a chameleon copy I don't know what is
🤔
You have your hammock hung too high
