i think your opponent is kinda underrated. He made some very good comments about the position and even found moves that werent on the radar of the National Master.
HUGE fan of this series. As I've said before, I really enjoy (and prefer) watching you play while talking through your thought process, whether against others or bots. Keep it up!
The difference I saw: opening knowledge, confidence, and the speed/number of lines they could calculate. I think Phambu had some chances to counterattack after the rook blunder but he was fixated on defending himself.
Counter attack is the move to go to first apparently, then comes defence ( when being attacked) Defence comes when attack is being built up, not during attack, apparently.
Loads of people are saying you were too negative. I don’t agree, your humility made you play solidly, and for me it is such a likeable trait. You had Nelson’s down so much material and in trouble. I will be watching your channel! You analyse and articulate it brilliantly. I am guessing despite the loss it is one of your favourite games?! You put on a Rocky like performance.🍻 well done
Amazing game! Another lesson in how being down material can be overcome by superior endgame understanding and play. This situation happens to me all the time. Middlegame blunder, then endgame win. This is a great series, please keep it going!
Nelson, thanks for all your content, and just some feedback on this series. I think it's really good, and I encourage you to continue it. It is really nice to see how others at lower levels think. When titled players play/talk, it's obvious to "the rest of us" that we're not at that level - but that makes it hard to calibrate where our own thinking falls on the spectrum. Some titled players at speedruns try to match their play/reasoning to the level of the opponent, and that's valuable, but still kind of fake - having full clarity over a position and pretending not to see things that you do in fact see is different from being in "the fog" of lower level thinking. The unique value-add of this series compared to many other excellent streamers I also watch (Rosen, Rozman, Naroditsky) is that we get to see both the thinking/reasoning of the the titled player and the lower level player. Excellent concept. I vote for a full speedrun this way. Keep it up, and glad you're healthy.
I think something that would help his game a lot is countering attacks with attacks. He let Nelson keep him on the defensive the entire game and he had quite a few good pressuring moves throughout.
This was so interesting. It shows how you can be super solid all game but then fall apart when the time pressure kicks in. I'm really loving this series. It would be great if you got some other big channels involved, maybe some guys who are even higher rated like levy or hikaru.
I don't like that your opponent keeps saying he's going to lose even when the position is equal. A 1200 player managed to draw last week so no need for such defeatism.
To be fair, that's just a personality quirk coming through. Self-deprecation is common, and I'm guessing this was a whole new experience for this fellow.
I know I’m not as big of a creator as yourself or Phambu as I just got started doing TH-cam. But ive watched your content forever and I’d love to get a game in if you continue this series. I’m around 1300 on my main account (the one I don’t use for TH-cam)
I love watch these games again other players Think at the end if he just think a bit better he could won this but you did nice moves to pull plot back to be far
This game reminds me of countless Nelson videos where he was really bad on clock usage trying to explain everything to the viewers and just blitzes the end into a loss. He just needed to build a fortress and start pushing pawns to an easy w. Gg though.
That 1400 plays like 1600 or 1700 ..the way he thinks he just blundered at the end ...it amazes me that NM blundered his rook like that... Hey Nelson please pick me for the 1800-1900 series...lol
Not to knock phambu, he would kick the crap out of me every time im sure lol. But i kiiinda feel like nelsi was takin it easy on him just a lil bit. Either way very informative and entertaining match :)
Chess Vibes. I love your videos, there awesome all, 47:23, I feel your pain, do Chess Vibes going to be honest. That’s happened to me x amount of times.
What's with the thumbnail? bro thinks he's uploading a Minecraft video. 💀 Anyways that aside, I love ot when you use an actual position during the game as a thumbnail as it allows us to get an idea of what we're getting into. and also use our brain to figure out what's going on on the board, I think it's a good practice. 👍
I like this series, but I'm not too fond of the sneak peek you show at the beginning of the video. It kinda "spoils" at lot of the game in the sense that I know it'll eventually reach the position shown in the sneak peek. And after I know you blundered, it kinda wants me to watch it less. Idk how to make it better though. Maybe I'll try to skip the sneak peeks in the future.
I think the point of this series tho is to show the difference between the lower and higher rated. Plus most of us are 1600 and under so we can see where we lack. I think 2000 and 2200 is too close together that we might not learn as much. Still would be entertaining but we could just watch his older videos if we wanted to learn how a 2000 thinks
Thank you so much for the opportunity to play against you! I had a great time and definitely learned a lot :)
Great game guys! Thoroughly enjoyed watching. Will head over to your channel, watch the post game and sub! :)
You played so well!!! You should be proud of pressing Nelson so hard.
WP dude, you were close enough
I'm impressed
You did great man!
oh man you were so close, just had to not blunder the rook back and you win.
Bro only lost because he didn’t believe he could win. He played really nice
he missed one move, blundering his rook. Until that point he played great
He lost cause of time gettijg low

Thank you so much for the feedback! And, yes, you are correct that this was definitely one of my favorite games! :)

This series is awesome! Another round of rapid climb is also wanted!! ❤️ thanks for the content
This was the best part of the series so far imo! Really exciting game
Best chess series so far. Keep it up! I'd love to see more of this in the 1000-1500 range. Would also like to see some Vienna and Caro Kann play.

Imagine him typing “two big brains collide in space over chess board” in image generator💀
Nahhhh 💀💀
Wow 56mins flew by fast!
I think something that would help his game a lot is countering attacks with attacks. He let Nelson keep him on the defensive the entire game and he had quite a few good pressuring moves throughout.
What an exciting game. Phambu: you played well over your rating.
This was so interesting. It shows how you can be super solid all game but then fall apart when the time pressure kicks in. I'm really loving this series. It would be great if you got some other big channels involved, maybe some guys who are even higher rated like levy or hikaru.
When he blundered his rook I was like "NO NO NOoooooooo....." lol
Good series, fun because I’m around the rating of the guys you play. Good to step into both your minds simultaneously. Thanks Nelson
I've been really enjoying these videos! Actually at my range and seeing both sides talk it through :)
It was a surprise having you blunder a rook while waiting for him to blunder.
I don't like that your opponent keeps saying he's going to lose even when the position is equal. A 1200 player managed to draw last week so no need for such defeatism.

@@ransombaggins9301 Sounds like a lack of confidence to me, which is a shame as he's actually a very good player.
I think it helped him relieve the pressure.. what a great game he played 👏🏼👏🏼
@@danielward7008 That definitely could be it.
@@machibest Yeah he played well. He's a good player.
I want to congratulate your opponent, he played a fantastic game!
@21:29 bishop h4 check first, & if Nelson covers with knight f2, then keep checking with rook e8 so Nelson would delay his castling!
I learnt the most from your videos. Thank you.
Great game. Really enjoy watching nice people play.
51:01 after b3. Re3 wins material isnt it? Queen and Knight also attacked. No way you can defend both
What I got out of this is: relentlessly work on your endgame tactics.
My take from this video is that a 1400 level player is good enough to sometimes beat an NM!
Keep it going. I love these videos
Lots of learning from watching this, thank you!
Best one yet 😊
HOLY FRIG I LOVE THIS SERIES
I know I’m not as big of a creator as yourself or Phambu as I just got started doing TH-cam. But ive watched your content forever and I’d love to get a game in if you continue this series. I’m around 1300 on my main account (the one I don’t use for TH-cam)
Being a 1400,I kinda feel great seeing someone of my level can pose this much trouble to Nelson
This series is awesome
Great series absolutely love it...
I love watch these games again other players
Think at the end if he just think a bit better he could won this but you did nice moves to pull plot back to be far
Instead of Qc6, u cud have played Kg4 checking the king and rook ... was this not played coz of time or is it a bad move
Wow, what an emotional rollercoaster!! Amazing game, he played great
This game reminds me of countless Nelson videos where he was really bad on clock usage trying to explain everything to the viewers and just blitzes the end into a loss. He just needed to build a fortress and start pushing pawns to an easy w. Gg though.
Great content, what platform do you use to edit your videos btw... Like the intro
Fun game. Thank you both for sharing!
I like this very much! Are you looking for more people to play against?
This series is perfect the way it is. 3400 ELO ytuber content.
I really didn't like dxc6. May be b3 is better?
the difference is 770
How do you sign up for this? I'm 1500 so rubbish but not completely rubbish
There should be a game review after the game. Would be curious who was the closest to winning you)
Two of my favorites 💯
what a brilliant move Qg3 and capturing a free rook! lol
When will we get to see difference between 1900 and 2200
I've barely seen difference between 1430 and 2200. :-D
Chatgpt thumbnails looking nice
He was consistently on the same page
Wow. I don’t recall ever seeing Nelson drop a rook to a 1400-rated player before. 😮
wow he played great
Crazy game gg
It was defiunetely fun!
What line is that?
That 1400 plays like 1600 or 1700 ..the way he thinks he just blundered at the end ...it amazes me that NM blundered his rook like that...
Hey Nelson please pick me for the 1800-1900 series...lol
He forgot to trade, trade, trade when you're up! And defend.. in time trouble, move solidfying, defensive moves quickly to gain more time. So close..
I didn't know 1400 could play this good he should be proud of this game!!!
he's better than 1400 more like 1600 it just takes a long time to gain rating points.
Not to knock phambu, he would kick the crap out of me every time im sure lol. But i kiiinda feel like nelsi was takin it easy on him just a lil bit. Either way very informative and entertaining match :)
Chess Vibes.
