Thanks for the game Nelson! It was a great experience to play you!
Great game by 1700 i myself have 1 win against Im Nm Fm i am 1740 on lichess 😂😂😂😂
This game was honestly the most instructive when Nelson played f5 because the game was at this point already heading towards a race of creating a passed pawn and the thread of pawn promotion. Apex was more concerned of an attack on his king but that is not Nelson's plan in that position since he has it easier to mobilize his pawn majority of 3-2 compared to 4-3 on the other side where Apex had the pawn majority. And as Nelson said around minute 42 trades benefit him because passed pawns become more dangerous when more pieces fall of the board. This was definitely one of the best games in terms of endgame lessons and strategy so far.
my favorite chess series right now
He's a good player. He could probably beat Nelson once in a blue moon
It would not surprise me if he eventually got his rating over 2000
Elo was made for chess and it is actually just a number that tries to give a objective chance on the likelihood of you beating another players. If they played 100 games it would probably heavy on wins for Nelson, a few dozen draws and possibly some wins, yes. He plays well for sure.
@@Jartran72I think they would need to play 1000 games to reach several dozen draws but yeah I imagine he would win quite a few along the way
So helpfully instructive seeing inside each of their processes!
Make a video now whats difference between GM And NM
It would be fantastic if he played a stronger player just to see how they think but I doubt GM’s are too happy to reveal their thoughts
Some of the biggest chess streamers/youtubers are GMs @@caio5987

Why not an IM vs NM first

Nonsense.
This is a cool new series. Love the creativity Nelson!
This is so instructive series !!
interacting to show how much i love this series. keep it going!
Extremely entertaining and instructional; creative format. Thank you for sharing.
I love playing the Vienna as well. Great content as always.
great format to have the thinkings of both players
Well played Apex. Thanks lots of classes there, brilliant game.
I typically enjoy your content but this series specifically has to be the most helpful videos I've ever seen in chess. Long form talking out of positions from different perspectives has to be the best way to learn passively. Truly hope this becomes a regular occurrence, and I'm sure there is no shortage of youtubers who would appreciate a Nelson bump
This was very cool man, you both seem like good dudes
You did pretty well ApexChess. Well played Nelson. Very good video!
This series is as instructive as anything chess-related on YT. Nelson got Apex on superior endgame understanding, but IMO it seemed pretty even for most of the game.
Yeah it was pretty even and had my endgame knowledge been better then the game wouldve been a draw. I'm just now getting to the point that my games are coming down to equal endgame play (getting to where I am now games usually end in the middle game to a tactic or blunder) so I haven't had as much experience in these types of positions:)
@@ApexChesss It was pretty even until Ke4, which was the losing move.
Best chess series on the tube boi
@@RandomGuyOnTH-cam601 😂😂😂 touché
min 36:35 instead of moving the King, how about Knight to f3 = attacking his Rook and his Bishop(discovered attack) at the same time? Or am I missing something?
@20:00 neither of you considered pawn to g4 for white, is there something wrong with this move that I'm not seeing? I think that's what I would have picked in this position.
@2:34 ah i see he's a fan of Gotham as well!
Hahaha yes! Caro and Vienna babbbby
@@ApexChesssBotvinnik gang
It was cool to to finally see a game where both players are stronger than me (at my peak, I'd probably lose 300-400 rating if I started playing now) especially with the exact dynamic of 1 player is just a bit better and the other significantly and just how the difference in general endgame understanding plays even though neither extensively studied it.
My feeling is the game got much harder after he traded the bishop for knight going into a pure rook ending.
Respect for Alex for playing on
You two should rematch!!!!
At 36:36 it’s Nelson’s move does Nf3 work?
White has Rg2+ and then moves his bishop.
Can u also upload the video from your perspective only
Nelson sir when I watch your videos i really don't know how time will run out
And when I play I don't know how I run out of time😂😂
No one knows when our time will run out.
As a 1700 myself from my perspective, opening was hundred percent equal, but in the middle game better positional understanding and play of the black prevailed. I also like how black came up with the plan very early - 3 pawns on 2, sticked to it and won. Also I didn't like some of the white's passive moves and in 1 scenario I am certain he's blundered. Overall very useful and instructive game to watch, thanks
I had studied Vienna gambit a month ago but when I saw it again now, understood that it's really scary for the black. Nice video
Incredibly strong 1700 player
This wasnt high stake tournament game Nelson didnt need to force early queen trade for slight advantage
Agreed
nice game there
I’m a novice but why not c5 with his bishop at 29:25?
At 32:21 would night e6 work? It would fork 2 pawns and his rook. He takes your bishop you take his rook. I’m just a 500 elo so I’m sure I’m missing something 😂
White's bishop is hanging. Black just takes it and after NxR RxN he's winning.
You should play again Kamryn that would be interesting.
Great match
Love this series.
Id like to see a rematch
No rules
29:33 I was thinking Bc5 putting pressure on the rook and just trade dark squared bishops. Plugged it into an engine and it says black should take the knight in that situation and if white takes the rook it’s -7 absolutely crazy
You gave up 2 pieces for the rook, gave black a passed pawn, and white's king is trapped, so what did you expect? But for me Stockfish only reads -2.25 at depth 33. BxR is fishy as hell ... take the bishop for an even game.
Very instructive! There were several times the 1700 said "I forgot about ...." -- oops! And he never considered that the pawn majority would win, whereas the NM was playing for that early on.
Thank you for the very educational video! They are much higher rated than I am, but they are not using any special methods! They are purely reading the opponent's next move and evaluating the position. However, their accuracy is very high. What I, as a lower-rated player, can say is 'Let's play chess with proper thought!'
@35:50 would Nc4 have worked ?
White plays Rg2+ and then moves his bishop.
@36:05 Would it not make sense to move the knight to f3 and attack 2 undefended pieces?
I had the same idea...
Am I missing something? All I see is the attack on the rook (and the twice defended pawn) after which I assume Rd7 and white is happy.
@@qazzaqstanyou're missing a discovered attack on the bishop
@@alexanderkhainson2665 Oh right, yeah it would need to be Rf2
Significantly better than I saw when writing still not sure you get anywhere though
But then white can play Rf2, and then this would basically be a trade
Good game
Shows how valuable pawns can be.
Many a game is won by having just one extra pawn.
It's amazing that there's c4 in a game this old
Can’t believe he gave up the bishop pair. I would’ve taken with the Knight first at e4.
The difference was the ”wasted moves” when he moved his bishop and and the king back to it’s original square after long castle
No, those didn't matter. It was even until Ke4, which was a losing move.
@@JimBalterthose defenitely mattered
44:25 why wasnt Kf5 played? am i missing something?
30 seconds left on the clock. He already had a plan that was winning so he went with it…would be my guess.
Did you even listen to the video? He can't take the pawn on f4 (not f5, Kf5 isn't a legal move) because Rf5 wins the rook.
@@2B_or_not_2B Do you even know how to play chess? The player whose move it is at 44:25 isn't winning.
@@JimBalter bro ok i mean 44:28, after white plays Kf3. Why wasn't Kf5 played? Bro really thinks i dont know my coordinates also I'm 2100 would probably clap you 100 times out of 100

36:24 nf3 hits the rook and the bishop?
Rg2+ and then the bishop moves to safety.
as said nice format, very eager to get to end game and win. makes game .....sad
Bro you are so underrated

Handsome? What the heck?
No game review there again.
2:04 i'm thinking something like bishop g4 and white is in a bad spot because there gonna lose there queen
Um, no, white has three different pieces with which he can block the bishop.
I am not a native speaker so i dont know , why dose he refer to the opponent as they and not as he? Is it a formal way of speaking?
Many times in competition you will see people refer to an opponent as "they." It is a way to make the analysis less personal and can be seen as more polite.
We play against the board so our opponent is black or white, rather than a person with a gender, and we refer to that abstract opponent as "they".
Mr. Beast????
Every time he says "interesting move" he actually means "this is fuc*ing re*arded bro".
Am I crazy? I felt there were a lot of positional mistakes and oversights by the 1700. Not seeing g5, not using his knight, moving the bishop multiple times, not thinking about the endgame, unnecessary tempo wasting moves like h3, not trying to see any tactic or trying to attack. I feel I play better people at 1400-1500.
To respond to you im going to do it by sharing with you an homologous case (im 2200 just in case u call me a 300 who has no idea about chess). I play rocket league (a videogame) and im plat (maybe in terms of elo that would be like 1000-1200). I tend to think that people in my rank are much better than in diamond (the next rank) and more often than not when watching TH-cam videos of this other rank will say that i deserve to be there, because they make such obvious mistakes that I would NEVEEEERRRR do. The reality is that I do make them. Watching a video and finding the mistakes of the player once they are commented on does not mean that the player who made the mistake is a bad player. He's not, and we all do mistakes. The only difference is that he makes less mistakes and of a less order than magnitude than you, and that's why he's 1700 and you are 1400-1500 and im plat and not diamond unfortunately.
@@GrupoCiencias-xf2fs It's not that I am pointing out his mistakes when they are commenting, I can see in live action when that move doesn't look good at all. Actually, I do regularly beat 1500s and maybe 1600s, but I have a habit of going on game sprees, tire out mentally, and then play like a zombie and blunder consecutive games lol. I'm not looking to improve, it's just a fun hobby.
No you don't see better players at 1400-1500 level...white played a good game considering the nerves that come with a huge rating gap
This game was completely balanced until move 31 and then after that he gave me another drawing chance in which my endgame knowledge failed me. Not seeing g5 was a huge oversight but it happens to the best of us, there wasn't really any tactics to see and its hard to attack with such little pieces. I definitely should have thought about the endgame more than I did however but that's part of the learning experience:) h3 was definitely a wasted move but I guess I wasn't so sure how to proceed. I think as someone else mentioned in the comments here, the biggest difference between a player 1400-1500 and 1700 is just how often they make mistakes. I was 1500 just like 2 months ago and I believe the only thing that changed is I started paying attention to my opponents threats more and making less blunders
@@GrupoCiencias-xf2fs??
Waiting for rapid rating climb :)

Hi Nelson, I don't know if you can choose who advertises on your forum, but it's getting decidedly political. Taking away from the neutrality of CHESS. Why are you allowing that ? It's taking away from the beautiful game !!!
I have no control over the ads TH-cam puts on my videos.
