Seeing all the people who complained on the last HMS Ocean documentary it's probably worth writing in the description that this documentary was first aired in 2017 and that she was sold to the Brazilians in 2018. Otherwise enjoyed the content, looking forward to more episodes on this ship.

@roger that how are helo carriers stronger than aircraft carriers... there is no helo out there that can beat any 4th or 5th gen fighter jet with the ability to fight beyond visual range... helo carriers have a reduced radar range as an aircraft carrier can easily deploy a e-2 radar plan and increase their radar by 500 miles. Secondly there is no way a helo can destroy a cruiser or destroyer. AA weapons using the Aegis system could easily shoot down a helo from 100 miles away. A helo couldn't even hold its own against a littoral combat ship. Helos are best for infantry support and submarine hunting... the can't shoot out any modern ships.

This ship is now known as the NAM Atlantico serving with the Brazillian Navy since 2018.
It is the Brazillian Navy's flagship, and it was recently upgraded (by the Brazillians) to be a multipurpose aircraft carrier instead of a multipurpose helicopter carrier. With this upgrade comes the ability to launch UAVs and VTOL Aircraft. There are also talks to buy SAAB JAS-39 Naval Variant aircraft to use on the NAM Atlantico, but this has not been validated.

@@Hattonbank well we have 2 aircraft carriers with f35 and also the most advanced air defense destroyer ever made with the type 45. • @Hattonbank
      @Hattonbank 3 ปีที่แล้ว +11

@@ahab9712 Be realistic, the Chinese Navy is bigger than the US and all NATO navies combined and is adding 3 ships per month to the fleet. They have 60 subs whose primary mission is carrier sinking.
The Pentagon has conducted five separate war game exercises where the scenario is going up against the Chinese navy and air force in support of Taiwan.
The Pentagon reported that in every exercise, they were defeated by the Chinese.
It is not what I like to read, but it is the unfortunate reality. The USA has made no commitment to go to the aid of Taiwan, its position remains ambiguous in the event of a Chinese attack on Taiwan.I cannot see any situation where the UK gets involved if the Chinese attack Taiwan.
We are reaping the whirlwind that we have sowed by transferring our industries and technology (helped by their theft) to communist China which has allowed them to build up their economy and their militaty. We never did that for Germany in the 1930's, or to the Soviet Union in the Cold War, but we have gifted it to China.
      We will rue the day.

I doubt the quality and actual warfighting ability of the pla due to no experience and lack of modern equipment however I agree their navy is a massive threat but when hypersonic anti ship missiles come into widespread use naval combat will evolve anyways so who knows what will happen however while I don't see the uk engaging in all out war I do believe it's realistic that we will use our navy in support of the yanks whether for a naval blockade or full scale naval warfare.

They don't seem to be a military unit. Unless I missed something. I didn't see any of the military bearing that I was accustomed to while serving the US Marine Corps - on deployment on the USS Nassau LHA-4 in 1997-1998

You have to remember that we Brits are more laid back these days, but we are also very professional and when “military bearing “ is required you won’t find a better military for “spit and Polish” and military bearing, at the end of the day, when push comes to shove, the British forces do their job and do it as well as any other military in the world, and that has been proven time and time again down through the centuries, however I was very very surprised by the chief steward having his dreadlocks, I assume that he has some form of waiver to be allowed his hair to be like that, and in my opinion he shouldn’t be allowed that waiver, even on religious grounds, if you want to be in the military then you should adhere to military regulations, and if you don’t want to do that then you can’t join up, simple as that.
Just in case you are wondering i served for 24 years, 1979-2003, as a SNCO, Aircraft Engineering Technician. 😀👍🇬🇧🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿

There is no question if ‘picking them up and dumping them in Europe’ is the right thing to do, it definitely is, the are issues are around what happens when they get there, how we treat them, and how we screen them for who is a risk, and how we decide who gets given citizenship, and who needs to be returned to their home county.

sooo.... they should be like automated robots and constantly wired up... doing that on a long deployment is a good way to mentally wear down the crew and break down efficiency.. . I'm not military, but I have no doubt that ships have an alert level. Command staff make that decision, and no doubt once the alert level crosses a certain level, the crew will be more 'serious' and focused.

@@knand9936 the key example from just this, was that they evacuated the civilian camera crew when they were in a situation were there was a clear threat. You don't want untrained civilians getting in the way at times like that.
Also ask any member of the military and they'll tell you their job is large peroids of routine and bordom interspaced with hopefully very few moments of high stress, fear and danger. When your in that situtation, you be professional, when your not, you do the job but try to be as relaxed as you can, or you burn out.
Also this was the 2nd episode in this series, there was a scene in the first that had one of the officers litterally yelling at people during a drill. They showed a key thing about command, you don't need to swear and be agressive, you need to be commanding and make sure people understand you and do what they are ordered to do, a well trained crew doesn't need to be insulted and yelled at constantly to get the job done. If your having to do that, then your crew clearly needs more training or your command method needs work, as thats how you drive people out of the forces (or any job), and when your spending alot of time and money training people to do the job, you want to keep them.
