@roger that how are helo carriers stronger than aircraft carriers... there is no helo out there that can beat any 4th or 5th gen fighter jet with the ability to fight beyond visual range... helo carriers have a reduced radar range as an aircraft carrier can easily deploy a e-2 radar plan and increase their radar by 500 miles. Secondly there is no way a helo can destroy a cruiser or destroyer. AA weapons using the Aegis system could easily shoot down a helo from 100 miles away. They don't seem to be a military unit. Unless I missed something. I didn't see any of the military bearing that I was accustomed to while serving the US Marine Corps - on deployment on the USS Nassau LHA-4 in 1997-1998
You have to remember that we Brits are more laid back these days, but we are also very professional and when “military bearing “ is required you won’t find a better military for “spit and Polish” and military bearing, at the end of the day, when push comes to shove, the British forces do their job and do it as well as any other military in the world, and that has been proven time and time again down through the centuries, however I was very very surprised by the chief steward having his dreadlocks, I assume that he has some form of waiver to be allowed his hair to be like that, and in my opinion he shouldn’t be allowed that waiver, even on religious grounds, if you want to be in the military then you should adhere to military regulations, and if you don’t want to do that then you can’t join up, simple as that. It is better to have a position on board than to have to trudge through the water and the desert as a Marine, where the risk of getting injured or worse is much greater.
There is no question if ‘picking them up and dumping them in Europe’ is the right thing to do, it definitely is, the are issues are around what happens when they get there, how we treat them, and how we screen them for who is a risk, and how we decide who gets given citizenship, and who needs to be returned to their home county.
sooo.... they should be like automated robots and constantly wired up... doing that on a long deployment is a good way to mentally wear down the crew and break down efficiency.. . I'm not military, but I have no doubt that ships have an alert level. Command staff make that decision, and no doubt once the alert level crosses a certain level, the crew will be more 'serious' and focused.
@@knand9936 the key example from just this, was that they evacuated the civilian camera crew when they were in a situation were there was a clear threat. You don't want untrained civilians getting in the way at times like that. Also ask any member of the military and they'll tell you their job is large peroids of routine and bordom interspaced with hopefully very few moments of high stress, fear and danger. When your in that situtation, you be professional, when your not, you do the job but try to be as relaxed as you can, or you burn out. Also this was the 2nd episode in this series, there was a scene in the first that had one of the officers litterally yelling at people during a drill. They showed a key thing about command, you don't need to swear and be agressive, you need to be commanding and make sure people understand you and do what they are ordered to do, a well trained crew doesn't need to be insulted and yelled at constantly to get the job done. If your having to do that, then your crew clearly needs more training or your command method needs work, as thats how you drive people out of the forces (or any job), and when your spending alot of time and money training people to do the job, you want to keep them.

@@anguswaterhouse9255 yes, but a super carrier is 65,000 tons and up. Which makes the queen Elizabeth class carrier is a super carrier.
@@anguswaterhouse9255 Ski-jump instead of catapult seriously limits the type of aircraft and payloads they can carry/launch. So…while it is indeed a fleet carrier, it’s not Super.

Talking to a civilian camera crew for civilian showing? what do you expect - Uncle Albert?
What a lovely lot of young sailors. Well done you
Loving these videos about the Ocean.
There are 17 year old girls on the crew of the ship, but the film crew abandons ship because it is not considered safe. C'mon people. We didn't get to see the most interesting part of the voyage. Other than that this was very good and makes me respect the Royal Navy.
The TV crew isn't trained or would be insured for such a situation and is not the responsibility of the ship of Royal Navy to protect them. They could also be in the way, see classified operations they are not privy to . The younger girls on the ship are not cheerleaders, they are trained members of the Royal Navy and are at work, doing what they are being trained to do.
God Bless, Protect and Guide ALL of our Brit Friends IN WHATEVER YOU DO AND WHEREVER YOU ARE............ BE ASSURED THAT AMERICA DEARLY LOVES YOU !!!
OMG, The HMS Ocean should be at the British Museum now.
Sold to brazil, she still has a good 20 years left on her, who knows maybe more?
What a cuality of officers and marines, that make the differences between uncle Sam and the British. maybe uncle Sam has the bigger army but they don't have the cuality like British, small army but with a bigger punch.
This is a really interesting series. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for watching, Chuck!
Wow soo nice
How OLD is this video? HMS Ocean was sold to Brazil back in 2018...
@Robert P nope... Brazil has the HMS Ocean by now (NAM Atlântico)
@Robert P Helicopter carrier*
@Robert P HMS Ocean wasn't able to launch STOVL aircraft
Wow! An extremely well-done vid! Puts the viewer in the thick of it! (I was trying to sound British, since I am American!) Haha Thanx for posting! Really enjoyed it!
Seems like you guys visit the same ports in the Mediterranean is the USS Forrestal the USS Saratoga most aircraft carriers that I was deployed on from about 78 to 82
she was, ultimately too big, too slow, and woefully under armoured, leaving this noble lady, too suseptable to sinking fast. Via either a.t.s plane fired missiles, or larger l.t.s missiles. but to me, she was the finest ship i ever had the privilige to serve on.
Armor? We don’t need no stinking armor.

Very interesting presentation. I tip my hat to the officers and the ship's company. Be safe wherever you are.
Jalapeño poppers...classy. Did they also serve dinosaur chicken nuggets? lmao
They’re at sea for months sometimes before restocking at a port. What did you expect them to have freshly cut wagyu and live lobster onboard a ship that’s been sailing for weeks?
@@d-paddan5393 They literally flew a bomb squad in...you telling me there's no food in Egypt!?
That ship have a very serious mission and representing the U.K.

I wish my ship would have went to Suez Canal area.
Egypt will been awsome to visit.
My ship docked at Oman but never Egypt.
That whole Suez Canal area gorgous color water there too.

HMS ocean? It´s not exists, man. Search for NAM Atlântico!
HMS Ocean is now apart of the Brazilian navy. It’s legacy continues
I went through the Suez Canal on the USS Forrestal cv-59 aircraft carrier United States Navy very treacherous Passage and that was back in the late 70s and early 80s
Just in case you are wondering i served for 24 years, 1979-2003, as a SNCO, Aircraft Engineering Technician. 😀👍🇬🇧🏴
@@allandavis8201 Honestly while watching i thought, wtf is wrong with them, they absolutely do not behave like military. Most of the young ones and some officers look like a bunch of tourists on a cruise boat.
@@allandavis8201 Similar thoughts - 73 to 95. As a Lynx SMR 85 onwards. But I did think its become too informal. I've never heard of 'miners night' either. They do seem to have forgotten what 'secure for sea' means as well.
Seeing the argument of competition and capability depends on training too. Firepower is a small part of that.
Thank you, Evrist Tempro 🙏
The US needs to give a Seawolf, a Gerald Ford, and a an air defense warship such as an Aegis. And maybe our top destroyer. Maybe two Zumwalts. Make Britain terrifying again. I am half Brit and half American. Let us unleash like we did in WW2. US firepower with British courage. That combination never fails.

Watching in 2021, when I know there is already QE and Prince of Wales carriers...but my question is, why is this sailing unaccompanied?
I thought Carriers have to sail only in a fleet?
There is always something nasty not to far away trust the Royal navy
I can’t understand why this ship is traveling alone without a Destroyer Escort.

The guy said he's on save place the musashi went down no problem mate 👍
what an adorable little carrier!
It is better to have a position on board than to have to trudge through the water and the desert as a Marine, where the risk of getting injured or worse is much greater.
She's Britains biggest warship... Not anymore!! Long live QE2 and POW
It's a beautiful miracle be safe God bless our man and woman in uniform

Such a happy young lady
Would like an episode on HMS Queen Elizabeth
There is no question if ‘picking them up and dumping them in Europe’ is the right thing to do, it definitely is, the are issues are around what happens when they get there, how we treat them, and how we screen them for who is a risk, and how we decide who gets given citizenship, and who needs to be returned to their home county.
Funny how the sailors are just ignoring the XO.
Are pommy officers.., always over the top. What an actor
yall say uk is doomed this is an old ship, and for the crew its a show and act of kindness to Egypt so chill out.
These guys are not ready for contact....
This video is at least 5 years old. Ocean was sold to Brazil in 2018. Queen Elizabeth and Prince of Wales are the empires new carriers.
Britannia ruled the waves... not anymore, Horatio!
Those crew doesn't seem to serious about what they are doing. They look they are in volunteer camp.
Exactly uk is doomed
There leaders are to scared to even swear or raise there voice absolutely disgraceful
sooo.... they should be like automated robots and constantly wired up... doing that on a long deployment is a good way to mentally wear down the crew and break down efficiency.. . I'm not military, but I have no doubt that ships have an alert level. Command staff make that decision, and no doubt once the alert level crosses a certain level, the crew will be more 'serious' and focused.
@@knand9936 well put
Excellent video, thank you for sharing !!!
Took less time on D-Day to land troops than it did for this video

@@huangboris Not necessarily bigger but better - yes and more of them - remember for all that technical know how and sophisitication a ship can still be in only one place at a time!
@@mikewalrus4763 For this type of ship the bigger the better, only question is Chinese equipment havn't build up its reputation
@@huangboris No the other guy was right, size isn’t the biggest factor of its competence as a carrier. Technological superiority is the biggest part. A carrier with a 60 plane capacity that is 20 years old would lose every time to a brand new carrier that could only carry 30 planes.
Don’t get me wrong plane capacity is still very important but there’s more important aspects.
What good is having a gigantic carrier if it’s poorly armoured, woefully slow and not equipped with adequate radars or Anti Air / Missile guns.
Yep, this is a little dated, this ship is now owned and operated by Brasil as their new flagship named Atlântico
