    Gina, I'm very allergic to the moldey old book pgs. and I love them and have tons of them. I try to remember each time I thrift, to put the books in a seperate bag; and then shake baking soda into the bag and let them stand about a month or so. But I am allergic to almost everything, lol. I also COPD, so that doesn't help. I love that You take time with the newbies! TFS, Gina! You're such a sweetheart.

    Hi Gina😊I'm Sharon on hubbys account 👍. Concerning old books....yes I get raspy, stuffy and coughing after too much time with old books, magazines etc. It's dust & mold, very common but it can make you sick. Especially if you have immune issues or lung troubles.
    If you can handle wearing the small white masks and gloves when you're working more then an hour...I highly recommend it. I can't do it without anymore. I hope that helps👌🏻😉I've enjoyed this video. I came across it randomly but will be looking at more of your pretty work soon.😍
    P.S. And wash face & hands after plus change your clothes when finished. I made that mistake 😏, best regards.

    Hi Gina, I think you're an eclectic designer. This is the reason you craft with different style each time you create something. You're like me. You probably want to vary things up cus you probably get bored doing the same style. You're attracted to many different and pretty designs. Your mind must be going hundreds of ideas at the same time and you have a hard time which idea to stick with. My advice is: when you get an idea, stick with that until you're done. Any other ideas that pop on your head write them down and date it. That way you'll know which idea you want to do first. Having different style taste is actually good. You'll never get bored. Thank you for sharing. GOD Bless

    Have an Idea Gina - on making the pocket envelope since you're bothered by what direction the text is going, make it out of 2 book pages, the one in the front right side up and the one in the back upside down that way when you fold over the top it will be right side up and the same with the bottom! Try that it will work!

    These are beautiful pieces and great tutorials on each one, thank you for taking the time and sharing these awesome ideas! I adore the heart tuck,omg, so cute!! The music pages turned out great! I love the little envelope out of a book page, did someone already suggest to turn the page upside down and then fold the two pieces on the front to have the words come out normal. Of course, the back will be upside down, but if you glue this on a page, no one will ever know or that you can cover. I think this is right, right? Lol! It would be so sad to have to give up working with these type of books, something you love, but your health comes first. I have seasonal allergies and my doctor has told me a blood test is the first thing he'd do if I start having major problems. So, I would imagine the way you are feeling, id want to know if I was allergic to the mold spores or dust mites, etc in those books. Mold is not to be messed with. I hope you get to feeling better and things turn out for the better. Thanks, again, Debra

  • @mandyofmarymac
    @mandyofmarymac 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    Good Morning~I've just subscribed to your channel. I am enjoying it very much. You mentioned the moldy smell from the old books and how your lungs are affected. Well, I tested positive for a mold allergy years ago, and as a result of the allergy, I can't even walk into an antique store with moldy books. I went to Ireland to see the Book of Kells, and basically had to RUN through the rest of the library when we left because the mold level was so high I couldn't breath. So if you decide to work with the old books again, I highly suggest wearing some sort of protection. Thanks for the lovely video. Your newbe.

      @@TheFireFlyStudio67 I did go back through the video again and didn't see anything. Maybe it's on your social media and I don't do those, so no worries. The cough you mentioned and the chest tightening could be from burlap ribbon, fabric, or string. When I watched this video again, it looked like you might have had burlap string on some of your bookpage dangles. In your gorgeous sunflower journal, it looked like you had a burlap belly band. I have a similar type of reaction to all burlap. Kind of like asthma, maybe? So, I had to go through and throw away every spool and piece of burlap and the problem went away. I've only ever heard of one person being allergic to burlap and it does seem to be a strange one, but I have a lethal allergy to latex, like rubberbands, rubber stamps, gloves, etc. Sorry so long, but if you want to check out the burlap theory, you could put every roll and scrap of it in a double sealed bag, and then dust real well to clean up any burlap dust and see if your breathing gets better in your craft room. Good luck.

    I have the same corner punch, and you can try to sharpen it with punching through tin foil several times. I think the problem with many punches is that the metal oxides and becomes dull no matter what you do. Everyone raves about the We R Memory Keepers corner punch that has both sizes and I've found that mine kind of sucks....and it's not cheap.

    Hello. I'm a new subscriber. Love your style and thank you for sharing your ideas with us. I love old book pages but have had difficulty adding them to projects depending on what the writing is about. Somehow never thought of covering it up with gesso or stamping. I have problems with dust as well and have noticed what feels like a sore throat, etc but didn't connect the two. I have a heppa filter on my vacuum. I wonder if vacuuming my old books carefully might help. I sometimes wear gloves as I get eczema on my hands from the dust.

    Just a thought Gina, there is a nasty cold virus that is going around and has been since the beginning of December. It has recurred in my husband 4 times since then and I have had a recurrence 3 times since Boxing day. It is really nasty and I do hope that you haven't fallen victim of it. I think we are both on the mend now or at least I hope so. We are both fed up with being ill. Richard is on his 3rd kind of antibiotics to cope with a residual sinus infection that won't go away. So maybe a reaction to old books is the better of two evils? Love the video by the way, and it is not at all blurred.
