for anyone who's wondering Nd5 is the move at the end. If they take your knight you fork their queen and their king, otherwise you get their rook with the fork.
For the puzzle 1.Nd5 should do it. If 1. ... Qxb5 2.Nc7+ forks the King and Queen. If 1. ... Qd8 2.Nbc7+ wins the Queen again since the King cannot move. If 1. ... Qc5 2.Be3 Qc3 3.Nbc7+ wins a Rook. And if 1. ... Qc6 2.Nbc7+ Kd8 3.Nxa8 and if 3. ... Qxd5 4.Bg5+ wins the Queen.
After Nbc7+ Kd8, you don't immediately take the a8 rook, cause the black Queen could capture the knight in d5. Instead, you throw a check with Bg5+ (and now the white Q is protecting the N in d5). If Black responds with f6, you simply capture dxc, threatening the discovery attack fxg7+winning the h8 rook. If, after Bg5+, Black responds with Be7 or Ne7, you simply go Bxe7+ forcing the trade Kxe7. Now you can capture the rook Nxa8 without worrying about your N in d5. (Edit: same if Bg5+Ke8, you just Nxa8 and your N in d5 is protected by your queen)

10:00 the solution is Nd5, if Qxb5, then Nc7+ is a royal fork and picks up the queen in the next turn. If the queen plays something else, we still have Nc7+ overpowering the c7 square and winning the rook. An amazing video to crush these lazy Englund players
Excellent! Before this video, I had stopped my preparation at 6.Nc3 thinking I had prevented Black's only trap but you are correct, there is more to it and the moves for White are not easy to find, especially in Blitz. Now I feel more prepared-thanks Igor!
I hate when people play this against me so I decided to watch this video. Usually, I watch a chess video and totally forget all the moves and screw it all up lol. Today somebody tried to play the Englund against me and I absolutely demolished them thanks to this video. Opponent resigned after 10 moves with me scoring 100% accuracy. Woohoo!
Thank you for the video. I just beat an opponent from Poland using your counterattack. I saw this a couple of days before… I’am a 1800 Elo in Lichess (rapid), and didn’t know much of the theory against this defense. Thank you, greetings from Honduras.
I lost on this so many time today that out of despair I looked on youtube how to counter it. I did it a moment ago, and it is soooooo DAMN satisfying! Thank you!
4:46 I never thought I'd hear the guy who helped me raise my elo by 400 points and who inspires me to continue playing chess saying 'I don't give a f**k'
I never thought I'd hear him swear either. It doesn't bother me, it just sounded so foreign coming from him, and I'm not talking about his accent. It was like hearing my Dad swear. He's still my favorite youtube chess teacher.
@gmigorsmirnov thank you so much!, i want to tell you that both this video and the video against KID made me looking forward to facing them instead of fearing them :) i know the dutch is rare and so many have covered it but would love to follow your preferred lines
Best move for the puzzle is knight too d5 black can't caputer sith queen unless you deliver a triple fork to king rook and queen and if the play another move to fork king and rook simple
0:52 after Qb4+, you can also play Nc3, let black grab your bishop on f4, then you go Nd5, forking Queen and c7! Usually a big surprise for black, white gets a good game, specially at blitz games, if black doesnt know the line. Black should be very careful.
Englund gambit is the same as wwq attack. Hartlaub Charlick variation is much better. (dxe5 d6) also it's much trickier. Regardless of white moves except knight b5 pin(you play qd2) just bg4 nc6 nf3 qe2 000. There are potential bishop sacs on h2 if they castle. You got easy opposite side castle and easy plan (pawn push on the kingside) many opponents just develop but falls for bxh2+ either winning the queen or the king.
knight d5 with the idea of nc7 next move. If the pawn takes your knight, black loses his rook, if his queen takes your knight, that's lost to the nc7 fork. If black just moves the queen to save her, nbc7 anyway to win the rook.
Once again, watching your video helped me win another game. My opponent played nothing like the video but ALL of your instructions are slowly sinking in. Thank you GM Smirnov, you have a way of teaching that is easy to absorb 👍
In 1933 a gentleman by the name of Willem Nicolaas Dinger attempted to play this opening as Black in a simultaneous exhibition by Alexander Alekhine, who had won the world championship six years earlier. Alekhine dismantled Dinger in 28 moves.
Nd5 after Qd8, Nc7 is much better, this forces black to take the knight winning you the queen with check, in turn winning the rook. Nd6 check is also good, bishopf8 takes, then you take with pawn, then Nc7 check, queen takes, you take Queen with pawn, you have a very far advanced pawn threatening to promote and be used in a check mate pattern, obv you bring the bishops and queen should be an easy win. cannot see an immediate check mate tho maybe i wrong

Thanks for this video! I've been getting into chess again lately and I'm trying to expand my play styles. I am a big fan of the Wayward Queen attack simply because of how aggressive it is. But I like the Hare Defense/Meadow Hay Trap opening too. This is a great strategy breakdown and I look forward to employing it.

I am trying to play the Englund gambit since I got motivated by your video, and now you are releasing a video on how to counter it 😂😂😂
Now you know the right moves to the counterplay
I hate when people play this against me so I decided to watch this video. Usually, I watch a chess video and totally forget all the moves and screw it all up lol. @4:44 I'm like "no way he said what I thought he said" 😂😂😂😂 Igor you are a true OG!
My guess is Nd5, when black queen moves away, NC2.
Great videos! Thank you!😊😊😊
Yea and if Qxb5, Nc2 royal fork
@@yeetusdeletus5714or as Hikaru calls it when it's the 3 way, the family fork :)
I use this gambit to counter london but now london players is gonna counter me instead 💀
I watched this because I play the queens gambit
This is a very good and instructive video on refuting the Englund Gambit!
I have lost games to it; and appreciate learning how to refute it.
Homie, I was literally watching your video on how to play the Englund and now you're pissing over all my hardwork 😭😭😭
Thank you for the video.

Thank you for this video, recently got around 950 and have seen this played against me a few times now!
thank you! i was just looking for this yesterday!
4:46 I never thought I'd hear the guy who helped me raise my elo by 400 points and who inspires me to continue playing chess saying 'I don't give a f**k'
I rewatched the video 3 times and I still can't believe he said that
If you haven't donated me money you truly don't care.
I’m trying to decide if he said Fork (with his accent) or he actually said “F**k”
I never thought I'd hear him swear either. It doesn't bother me, it just sounded so foreign coming from him, and I'm not talking about his accent. It was like hearing my Dad swear. He's still my favorite youtube chess teacher.
It was ‘fork’. He just described a possible forking opportunity and then ‘I don’t give a fork’. Honestly, it doesn’t sound even close to ‘fuck’.
@gmigorsmirnov thank you so much!, i want to tell you that both this video and the video against KID made me looking forward to facing them instead of fearing them :) i know the dutch is rare and so many have covered it but would love to follow your preferred lines

@@GMIgorSmirnov what about my question re dutch any ideas ?

I love your channel - "I don't give a f#$@" had me laughing 😂
my man really said "I don't give a fock"
*"fork"?

I dont give a fork! Haha..made me rewatch that moment; as almost thought I imagined it! 🤣
Me too.
6:36 - I just did this brilliant finish. So satisfying.
Excellent video. Thanks for sharing 🎉
As white (in blitz/bullet), I usually just play 1. d4 e5 2. dxe Nc6 3. Nf3 Qe7 4. Nd2 Nxe5 5. NxN QxN 6. Nf3... and it's a comfortable game.
The first trap that he demonstrated just happened to me in a real tournament, literally move by move.
knight d5 with the idea of nc7 next move. If the pawn takes your knight, black loses his rook, if his queen takes your knight, that's lost to the nc7 fork. If black just moves the queen to save her, nbc7 anyway to win the rook.

You're really a main teacher for me about style.
Im 19, love you.
Wow, thanks!

Nice work!
Nd5 if take then fork Queen and King otherwise fork King and rook
Keep it up!! Ur videos are very good and i nowadays prefer ur chess videos over gothamchess
Very helpful
the winning move is Nd5 and if Qxb5 then Nc7+ forking the king, queen and the rook
Nd5 seems to be the answer to the puzzle you gave. It attacks the queen and threatens the king rook fork. If QxN(b5) then Nc7+ wins the queen.
Why QxN(b5)? It can be just Qc6 making a fork?
Igor just saved a lot of screens by teaching how to deal with this pain in the ass
do you have a video on how to refute and counter the halloween gambit as black?
Very informative!
In 1933 a gentleman by the name of Willem Nicolaas Dinger attempted to play this opening as Black in a simultaneous exhibition by Alexander Alekhine, who had won the world championship six years earlier. Alekhine dismantled Dinger in 28 moves.
Yep I faced this opening before. It's a good gambit but I never tried it.
4:48 first time ive heard you swear lol
Nd5

cannot see an immediate check mate tho maybe i wrong
1. Nd5!! is the best move for white.
Bro you are so awesome keep it up man 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Puzzle best move knight d5
Answer is Nd5. If qxb5 then Nc7 family fork and queen is lost. And after this, white is completely winning!
Omg so awesome thank you
What chess GUI are you using, please ? I want to see those stockfish move recommends as in your configuration. Thanks !
Chessbase
So a complicated gambit for white to react but a winning position for white if the player knows what they're doing.
also 10:11 nd5. just so y'all know

Now i came to know without watching anywhere i countered this
6:40 variation 1
Nd5 seems pretty good. The queen has to go just stand over on g6 or something
Nice video
Nd5 is definitely the move
Nd5 looking good
4:24 What after bishop a5
Why didn't you show the check mate?
Is that the grandmaster who felt in a gotham’s trap?
4:10 why not k-b5 attacking the queen instead?
damn Englund gambit is what I always play 😬
At 4:10, why play Nd5, and not Nb5 also forking the Queen?
Never mind, just worked it out! Nd5 threatens Nxd4 if the Queen tries to attack the Knight and defend the c7 pawn with Qa5.
Nd5 if takes knight then you fork the queen

kn d5 is my answer to the puzzle.
Soooo many are doing this at 800 elo blitz
sir what if black plays bishop a5 in this position(4:22)
😮 i just had this game
(Whew !) When Black plays Englund wrong....
Englund gambit is so tricky! Thank you by showing us how to send them to the funeral.
Nc-d4
Nd5 +
What if you moved your knight to A4 chasing away the queen and then getting the paw that is targeting your second knight at 8:08
Then Black takes your other knight.
Nd5
10:11
The move is Nd5, it threathens the queen while also simultaneously resuming the threat of the fork on the next move (Nc7), and the only move that can prevent the fork from happening without losing the queen is Qd8
After Qd8, you deliver the move Nd6, and thats checkmate
(correct me if im wrong)
doesnt bishop f8 just take your knight? still winning but no mate
after Qd8, Nc7 is much better, this forces black to take the knight winning you the queen with check, in turn winning the rook.

Thanks for this video. But what should the whites play if the blacks play Ba5 after Nd5 from the whites ?
Ne5
Qc3 they will just trade the queens
Rd5
THEY DON"T KNOW THEY JUST SEE THIS
Wow!!!
The C7 check to the King is wrong. You move the Knight B4 you check the king and the knight takes the Queen... come on man
what you mean cmon man he explained that inda vid Moron! watch the video before comenting your prentious answer
Englud player here. Came here to see what I need to face shortly.
Nd5!!!!
Be3, Q forced to f6. Qd5, forcing exchange of Q,s. Will win the rook by move f7. I f hxg4, rxh8
ng5 is the better move--like in a lot of my games I didn't see it -:)
I think d4 is the annoying opening, not 1…e5
KD5
What does he say at 4:40 lol
And now they still have to adress this threat of knight takes c7 forking the king and the rook
4. a3, and just play chess.
excellent practical tricks and explanations, just do not talk so fast ...............................
