I live here and fish here you need a plastic sheet to slow the drift - the trout look skinny compared to past years btw.

Great insight into a magical venue. What time of year was this?
If it helps ....would be good to know a bit more about the technicals eg the weight and length of rods, type and weight of fly lines , what rigs, bit more about flies used. Did you stick with those same lines throughout. Any problems with boat drift. Did you use a drogue. If not why not. You are so experienced you might assume us new fly fishers know these things. You did mention some of this. And FishWales probably want a balance and nonbrand advertising I do understand.
You two are superb presenters nice and calm. £60 its amazing vfm. Chunky wild brownies. Gorgeous setting. Spa for the missus. Whats not to love. Thank you.

Thanks Dai, really appreciate the feedback and kind words! It’s a tricky one to include all of the extra technicalities, most of our videos explore the venues, so people can see what they are actually like, to hopefully inspire them to give it a go, rather than act as out and out ‘how to guides’. We filmed the video in late April. In this instance we used 10 foot no #6 fly rods which are typical for wild brown trout fisheries, I stuck with the intermediate as it seemed to be working best. The top end of the lake was very sheltered due to the wind direction, so no need to use the drogue on this occasion, which on the second day was left behind on the boat launch anyway 🙈 If fishing here, I’d say a drogue is an essential on a windy day, or for drifting the exposed areas of the lake. For flies, wet flies such as Kate McLaren, Black Pennell, Watson’s Fancy, Bibio, Black & Silver dabblers and Mallard and Claret will always trigger a response. As seen in the video, small black marabou tail lures also work well, for example black woolly bugger, or a hot head black tadpole. A long leader of 18 foot in 6lb fluorocarbon usually works best, with a team or two flies. Tighlines / Llinellau tynn!
