    Brandon you are an awesome drummer. Is there anything in the rock genre you have trouble playing? I mean all of the Rush songs in like 40 minutes to Dave Grohl. Then you add in your jazz prowess. Wow. And the way you slow things down first and then up to speed is so nice. Of course the Drumeo follow along transcription is so nice for seeing the notes you are playing. I know everyone just about wants you to analyze and play their favorite drummer's iconic songs but if I might would love to see you do this for selected Bill Bruford songs. Keep up the great work Brandon. One final question: are you in a band? If not some band is missing a great drummer. Hope Drumeo offers a VIP week again. Cheers.

    • @ernie2298
      @ernie2298 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Some say that although Channing wrote them, Grohl’s energy while playing them made them famous and memorable.

    • @mitchellsmith8537
      @mitchellsmith8537 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I honestly think that the nevermind album is some of Dave's most stock drumming. Very plain and straight forward for the most part to me. I believe the reason for this is that those were mostly Chad channings parts. Even though Dave added his own power and flavor which I feel improved Chad's parts, to me dave was held back as a drummer with nirvana. There was only so much shining a drummer could do with that particular band and set list. Don't mistake...I love nirvana. One of the greats imo, however, dave wasn't able to display his musical skill like he shouldve with them. He has actually mentioned being somewhat apprehensive to assert himself or disagree with kurt. Not out of intimidation but out of the admiration and faith he had for Kurt as an artist and his talent for writing. If my memory is right...he was even scared for Kurt to hear his format solo demos that he had recorded for fear of Kurt's disapproval in them. That says alot to me. Rant over. Dave rocks and so does Brandon!!! 🤘

    Hey! Love the fact that these beats are being explained to all the drummers inspired by the great man Dave. I am one of those since -94. Started actually playing drums in -98 and the main reason was the music of Nirvana. Dave is still kicking ass and continues to be a true inspiration ❤️
    A couple of observations regarding the video:
    Although Dave uses the flam a lot in his playing there are few hits here that I think should played rock solid even. For example:
    - “Scentless apprentice” the last hit before the break is not a flam
    - “All apologies” the snare/tom combo is also not a flam
    - the only flam in “Song for the Dead” groove displayed here is on just the snare before the tom fill. If you listen to the recording it’s easy to hear the difference between that and all the others snare/floortom hits.
    - The chorus groove of “My Hero” I believe here is incorrect. You can hear the break from steady bass drum groove after the 1 of each bar. Taylor Hawkins emphasizes this live with an open hi-hat. This makes the groove breath a little and sounds awesome as it syncs up with the guitar and vocal perfectly.
    Sorry Brandon. I’m a Dave-beat fanatic and super picky how they are played 😄
    I also teach drums and I’m constantly educating drummers also when it comes to playing flams. How to play them and making the clear distinction as to how they are supposed to sound as to just being sloppy. Not all at all saying yours were, but just making an observation where they’re being used.
    All the best from Finland, keep on drumming people ✌🏻

    The chorus groove with the toms and quarter notes on the crash in First It Giveth is even better than the verse groove

    The Metal is almost an identical beat to Chad Channing's version of School by Nirvana.

    I dare say he’s the master. He said he never had lessons. That’s probably why he comes up with all these different beats
