One of the most realist orators that have existed. Listening to him is like listening to a stream of water, or listening to the wind, it is free of any trickery or decieve, no abstract concepts, no spiritual ideas, just what there is. I am glad that there are people like this in this existence reminding that what the social game we are playing is maybe only that, a game, and in a way life also is.

Without a doubt, the most profound 10-minute message I’ve ever heard. There is a time we were all as Alan described: unaware, spontaneous, carefree, not concerned with preparing for the future. When we were young children. It reminds me of The Giver.

Recognizing the language of symbols is one of the keys to unlocking persistent synchronicity.

If I could pause time, if I could reverse it and delete the bad parts, human history would be a beautiful thing, instead of the horrible thing it is!

Without symbolism we'd have no speech or writing which means no knowledge or real communication.
Sounds pretty lame and ignorant to me. I think we can learn to use symbolism without reducing everything to an idea in our head. Being present is removing symbolism and just experiencing the moment we're in. This seesaw is unique to human experience. It's a gift.

Symbolism is text/script/writing and speech is tongue which requires no symbolism or text/script/writing. The text/script/writing (symbolism) is used to convert speech/tongue to a vision/visible translation/equivalent and is largely the way communication via tongue/speech has been corrupted and the codification/scripting (symbolism) is what has been used to control and enslave mankind.

@periklistheodoridis8431 Speech is symbolism. Our sounds represent ideas.
Animals don't speak, they just make noises. No symbolism.

And that's what Watts is saying. However, from its very utility, this unique aspect of humankind, there is nevertheless a price, which is both beautiful and tragic at the same time.
Which for those who've seen through to the logical end of this cul-de-sac, are lead to something like meditation or Zen.

@@corey501 Greatly explained. It seems that Alan explaining it so clearly isn't enough for most.
