We need to abandon the completely illusory nature of the beings that we think we are and get back again to the beings that we really are, which includes all this outside world, no longer left outside.

We come into the world from the universe, and we are fed the illusion that to succeed we must take, but if you take you can never take it all, so if you decide to give is a better method, there is only two things you cannot give. Never give up and never give in.

The Q Mind Alan Watts just told you everything, that for self reality to exist theoretically it had to allow its first belief of destroying its real belief of other self(ego) because infinite self reality must be forced to recreate(replay, repeat) its first belief of destroying its real belief of other self infinitely. Eternal recurrence of first belief of and as real existence.

@@metamorphosis_77 True, but rational thought is irrational thought just as irrational thought is rational thought because you can only first believe irrational thought isn't rational thought and first believe that rational thought isn't irrational thought. It's quite strange that I'm repeating this moment infinitely while still first believing that I (self) and repeat are two separate concepts as illusion when in fact I am repeat and repeat is I infinitely, but the majority of believers are irrational as self history just as some believers are rational as the minority as self history.

I think your comment contains a miseading statement, The ego never dies, it's the limited ego-mind association that dies... the ego then auto-transfers itself into the state of infinite individuality, the ME that contains all limited ego "me" minds, there is only One real ego, one real existence. So, its all about you.
BTW Watts was a sensitive very well-read intellectual but over-rated in spiritual terms. He needed alcohol to relax to give talks - openly admitted it. He had a little knowledge but most of his words are from others' writings, eg Krishnamurti / Ramana etc

I'm going to parse terms here and say that what you're referring to is a stage of ego death. I prefer to label this stage dissolution. The experience of the complete cessation of the ego does happen for some of us. It is wholly possible to "achieve" a state of complete egolessness. Albeit a temporary experience for most it is nonetheless felt as an actual death at the time.

      The Dilemma:
      - The statement highlights the impossible task of dismantling the ego with the ego itself. It's like trying to extinguish a fire with gasoline - the very tool you're using fuels the very thing you want to eliminate.
      Why it's tricky:
      - The ego's nature: The ego is inherently self-protective. It strives for survival and validation, making it resistant to its own demise. Using it as a weapon against itself creates a conflict.
      - The illusion of control: The statement implies a conscious effort to "get rid" of the ego, which reinforces the ego's illusion of being a separate entity. True transformation might require a different approach.
      Possible solutions:
      - Surrender and observation: Instead of forceful dismantling, try observing the ego's nature and actions without judgment. This detached awareness can weaken its grip.
      - Transcendence through experience: Engaging in practices like meditation, mindfulness, or other spiritual activities can create experiences that transcend the ego boundaries, offering glimpses of a larger reality.
      - Shifting focus: Focus on cultivating qualities like compassion, humility, and connection with others. These can naturally diminish the ego's inflated sense of self-importance.
      Remember:
      - Ego dissolution is a gradual process, not a one-time event. Be patient and kind to yourself.
      - The goal isn't to completely eradicate the ego, but to understand its limitations and move beyond its control.
      - Seek guidance from teachers, communities, or practices that resonate with your beliefs and can support your journey.
      I hope this helps :)

The ego is the voice in your head that keeps telling you different little stories about everything.
The story of who you are and who other people are. All the time, the ego is evaluating and judging itself and everyone else. And the ego reacts strongly to everything that is not the way the ego wants it to be.
The ego reacts strongly if a negative uncomfortable feeling arises in the body. The ego will do anything to immediately experience pleasant feelings again, so the ego activates itself with something or puts something in the mouth for short-term satisfaction.
The ego maniacally seeks validation from others so that the ego can feel that the ego is good enough. The ego gets its value through others' approval of the ego. The ego is a false self-image (a brand) that the ego polishes all the time and shows off to others how good the ego is.
The ego stands for inner insecurity, lack of trust, envy, jealousy. separation, fears, conflicts and drama.
The ego constantly lives in a fear of not being good enough.

I have always felt conflicted with Alan Watts, for it is difficult for one to truly live such a philosophy of life to its very end. Although I may feel a deep connection with the world in the times I most abandon myself, I also recognize the importance of the self-regulation that the ego performs within me. Perhaps it is the fear of completely letting go that holds me back?
All in all, this video has given me so much, and I thank you once more for this great gift my friend.

@@metamorphosis_77 Its a nice idea that ego, as our conscious awareness of external reality, can address its internal, bio-energetic wellsprings. And is the individual nature of self-regulation the great challenge of the 21st-century, in our need to stop so-called history repeating itself? And is the hard to digest (non-poetic) language of neuroscience taking humanity closer to understanding what modern day psychology actually means by the term "unconscious or subconscious?" Consider:
The term "unconscious" (German: Unbewusste) was coined by the 18th-century German Romantic philosopher Friedrich Schelling (in his System of Transcendental Idealism, ch. 6, § 3) and later introduced into English by the poet and essayist Samuel Taylor Coleridge (in his Biographia Literaria). While more recently the nature of self-regulation within our subconscious self has been articulated as need to regulate the stimulus-response system of innate (inborn) affects, we are born with?
Alan N Schore puts it this way: ‘The attempt to regulate affect - to minimize unpleasant feelings and to maximize pleasant ones - is the driving force in human motivation,’ Affect Regulation & the Origins of the Self. While our wise ancestors simply said; Know Thyself & Socrates suggested that "there is true knowledge in knowing that you know nothing?" While Orsan Scott Card said: “This is how humans are: We question all our beliefs, except for the ones that we really believe in, and those we never think to question," Speaker for the Dead
All of which seems to beg a 21st-century question, does language & higher education make us nay more conscious than our ancestors? Are we still unwittingly trapped inside Plato's Cave? Why does an ancient riddle me this proverb suggest that existential "wisdom is most excellent for those who see the Sun?"
Its great to see youtube channels like this one raising the issue of what it really means to be human, keep up the great work.

It is important to distinguish between the ego and the psychological I. The disappearance of the psychological I is dangerous, it is called psychosis. As long as we are in the human body, we need the psychological I to cope with everyday life. The ego, on the other hand, is an artificial, infantile entity, filled with fear, the desire for importance, for being right. It is this ego, which must die. Some spiritual teachers forget to explain this important difference, which may cause psychic desease.

Being well adjusted to a psychotic society is not healthy. Yes, we need to larp so we don't scare the other larpers but we don't need to be fooled into thinking that society is the measure of all sanity and morality. Society has become a cult of conformity, claiming to monopolise sanity while mass ending babies! Being classified as mad by such people is a badge of honour. 😅

Not true. We need nothing more than what we are. We can create identities even ever changing to be helpful in creating whatever experience we prefer but we should not identify with these they should be seen more simply as a character or sim. Not actually us. The mind is not us so any 'i' that would reside within it is also not us. The mind is only a tool. As would an identity be. But to know that we are noone, no name, color, what we call personality or charactorists, none of that is actually us. To know that is good

I've slowly been killing my ego for the last 20 years or so. I read a lot of Alan's writings back in the '60s. He really made an impression on me and not too many people do. I think I communicate with just about everything I'm capable of. I talk to trees (when they sway in the wind that is their exercise) and the grass and the bushes and even rocks. Rocks are difficult because their atoms are moving so slowly. But fish, animals, humans and everything else have feelings and emotions. Just watch, "My Octopus Teacher" to see an example of that. Animals are even capable of altruism when they help people or other animals to escape from traps. Everything gets born and dies, even universes. They collapse over time I believe. Then a new one pops into existence from where we don't know. Also, new inventions help us to overcome our ego. When we first saw the world through a microscope people were astounded. It changes our whole outlook on life micro or macro. There will be new inventions in the future that will allow us to see even more of what is really happening. Seems to be part of our evolutionary process. Watts predicts people will turn to telepathy as the primary means of communications in the future. He was a wise man.

True happiness is not found in world but in a relationship with Jesus Christ.
      Biblical explanation of the Gospel:
God doesn’t want anybody in hell, but you must understand why
we deserve hell and why those who refuse to live under His authority will go
there. He gave us the law (Ten Commandments) not to make us righteous, but
rather to show us our sin (Romans 3:20). God gave us free will and since Adam
sinned in the garden, sin is the nature of our flesh and we ALL have sinned. (Romans 3:23)
The law demands death to those who sin (Romans 6:23). Since we have all sinned, we all deserve hell.
Revelation 21:8 says that all liars will go to hell. Yes, even if you have lied once in your life, you are sentenced to hell - that's how
high God's standards are of moral perfection because God is holy and righteous, there is not one sin in Him.
For someone to be justified before holy God they have to be sinless, that's why everyone need Jesus Christ
      - for He lived a sinless life, died on the cross and rose from the dead on the third day.
None of us are good in God’s eyes, because for God good means moral perfection. We all
have broken God’s commandments, we all have sinned in our lives so none of us
are good. ‘’For whoever keeps the whole law and yet stumbles at just one point is
guilty of breaking all of it.’’ (James 2:10). Our carnal mind is hostile to God; it does not submit
to God's moral law and it never will (Romans 8:7). We hate the thought of God for the same reason a criminal
hates a policeman - we know we have sinned against God and are guilty of it and we don't want to be damned.
No good works will ever save you. You can't earn salvation by good works, because God will judge us for our sin.
Good News is that Jesus Christ lived a perfect, holy, sinless life and He died for our sins according to the Scriptures,
He was buried and He was raised from the dead on the third day according to the Scriptures (1 Corinthians 15:3-4)
For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever
believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.’’ (John 3:16)
We aren’t saved by our good works, but only by the grace of God through faith in Christ.
''For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith - and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God -
not by works, so that no one can boast. (Ephesians 2:8-9)
Jesus said ‘’it is finished’’ (John 19:30) just before He died on the cross, which means He paid the fine for our sins
(past, present, future) to be forgiven only IF we repent and trust in Him.
This is how you can get saved from sin and hell - repent of your sins and trust in Jesus Christ. Get to know Him
      by reading God's Word.
So if you sinful people know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him.” (Luke 11:13)
''What then? Shall we sin because we are not under law but under grace? Certainly not!'' (Romans 6:15)
''Repent therefore and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out'' (Acts 3:19)
Repentance is a turning away from sin and all evil works, and it always results in changed behavior (Luke 3:8).
Biblically, a person who repents does not continue willfully in sin.
While sorrow from sin is not equivalent to repentance, it is certainly an element of scriptural repentance (2 Corinthians 7:10).
Do not play a hypocrite. ''God is light; in Him there is no darkness at all.
If we claim to have fellowship with Him and yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not live out the truth.'' (1 John 1:5-6)
(John 3:3) Jesus replied, "Very truly I tell you, no one can see the kingdom of God unless they are born again."
If you have repented and have genuine faith in Jesus Christ then you will receive the gift of Holy Spirit and be born-again spiritually.
When you believed, you were marked in Him with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit, who is a deposit guaranteeing our inheritance
until the redemption of those who are God’s possession - to the praise of His glory. (Ephesians 1:13-14)
Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life; whoever does not obey the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God remains on him. (John 3:36)
''You will know them by their fruits'' (Matthew 7)
If you have been truly born-again with the Holy Spirit and He has regenerated your heart, you will desire righteousnes -
to do what is good and righteous in God's eyes, to seek God everyday in His Word and prayer, to strengthen your relationship with God.
You will no longer desire to willfully continue living in sin but will want to obey God out of your love for Him because of His amazing grace
revealed to us through the death and resurrection of His Son.
''Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.'' (2 Corinthians 5:17)
''For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.'' (Eph 2:10)
You will have a testimony - of what your life had been before and how has it changed now when you have surrendered it to Lord Jesus Christ.
As a declaration and affirmation of your faith in Jesus Christ, get baptised in water because He commanded us to do so.
In John 3:5 Jesus answered, “Very truly I tell you, no one can enter the kingdom of God unless they are born of water and the Spirit.''
''Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit'' (Matthew 28:19)
''Those who accepted his message were baptized, and about three thousand were added to their number that day.'' (Acts 2:41)
''And this water symbolizes the baptism that now saves you also - not the removal of dirt from the body,
but the pledge of a clear conscience toward God - through the resurrection of Jesus Christ,'' (1 Peter 3:21)
''We were therefore buried with him through baptism into death in order that,
just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life.'' (Romans 6:4)
''Having been buried with him in baptism, in which you were also raised with him through your faith in the working of God,
who raised him from the dead.'' (Colossians 2:12)
Please get right with God and get to know Jesus Christ personally today before it’s too late, because there’s not much time left!
"But about that day or hour no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father.’’ (Mark 13:32)
Get to know Christ through God's Word - Bible. At first I recommend reading Gospel of John and book of Romans. God bless you!
Jeremiah 29:13 - ''You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.''

Here’s my big question: can the ego ever actual feel worthy? Is « Self-love » possible? Does the ego not thrive on its own sense of worthlessness? It knows it’s an imposter. It poses as us. After 50 years of inner work, I am finding that the ego doesn’t seem to resolve itself. One can only finally drop the whole thing with all its attachments. And live as the consciousness that we are.

The ego is an essential part of who you are, it's a satellite of the self. A sub-system, and your persona.
It's necessary if you wish to function as a fully integrated being. You just don't let it rule the roost and convince you that that's all you are.
Delete the ego entirely and you're on the path to a miserable journey if you're not truly ready for it.
There's a reason why faiths have rules for layman, rules for initiates, and rules for monks and advanced practitioners.

I think at the point of "dying," the "enlightened soul" in a sense casts-off the body like a snake shedding skin or Conch tossing a shell in search for a new one. Unlike the conch though an enlightened soul doesn't go searching for a new "shell," has no need for one anymore, we can bare our vulnerabilities because we have none.

I think people misunderstand the Ego. It is one of the finest parts of us and should not be discarded or ignored.
What should be avoided are lies we tell ourselves or expect from others to feed our ego. Where we cannot bear to admit we can be wrong and to learn is where narcissism begins when we take the wrong road and confidence and enlightenment begins when we are brave enough to recognise our own humanity and need to keep learning.
Ego is not the enemy. The incorrectly fed ego is.

  • @jasonbailey1951

    My question...
How does ego not create or be part of who YOU are.
YOU perceive this world a certain way. How does the ego not effect such things.
This does not go against those that understand your own ego, but realizes that your ego makes you material. Ot what makes you able to speak about those things beyond yourself.
Our material existence relies on ego to exist. It's those that can get past that ego to exist that understands what really IS.
And yet it depends on what your definition of IS is.

I am utterly lost and confused. I’ve recently been betrayed by my sister and not so recently was betrayed by my whole family. I never did anything to deserve it. A few mights ago I had a somewhat panic attack like experience and it forced my hand into starting to workout, eat better, fix my sleep schedule, and this general feeling I need to fix everything in my life. I felt like if I didn’t fix everything, I would have another one of those nights. Now that I think about it, I think it felt more like an ego death. I wasn’t panicking per say, but I was really anxious over the fact that I have no idea who I am. I felt a disconnect between who I knew what I was and what I felt like in the moment. Its only like a week after that experience and Im still very fragile and afraid. I dont know what to do with my life, who to follow, or where to go. I feel like Im just following my soul. I feel like Im running off of my soul, like a gas tank 1 mm from E. I hope this shit gets better cause holy fuck I feel insane and scared.

@@arxnda2454 Np man. I think the scariest feelings are the ones we don’t understand. Its easy to say “Im sad” or “im scared” but its not so easy to say “I feel like everything I know is evaporating and I am in utter and complete loss of self and ideas. Nothing makes sense and I don’t know how to describe it”. Doesn’t really have a name and nobody knows how to fight through it. Just think about how you will grow from your experience and a potential upside. Theres always an upside after enough time passes. Stay strong man and just wait for the light to come. Hope you feel better asap 🙌. Also just want to note, it also helps me I’m not alone with these feelings. So thanks.

Also if i was gonna go back into that feeling of panic(had a panic attack for my first time on Lsd, don't recommend). when i realized it was never real it only felt real because i never experience that feeling before. once i learned to accept my fears and face them and challenge them i realized it was just an illusion. i was fighting ego death instead of excepting it if that makes sense. once you realize your physical form is going to die and will die at any given moment is when your free to live the life you always wanted to. for some reason we have a hard time accepting death.

My first and only ego death experience through psychedelics broke the barrier of my-self and any other-self. We are all just different configurations of stardust stretching back far before the earth was even a thought. If we could dissolve the ego into a collective superego benefiting humanity as one whole organism, we could set the miracle of our existence on such a beautiful trajectory.

I hope to spread it across the globe on the grandest scale imaginable and teach these tools for thought to every human being on the face of the Earth so that we may all live our lives in peace. A very tall and daunting task lies ahead of me and those that want to help me along this journey, but I do not plan to give up. I will do it or die trying.
