    Delightful characters. Jennifer was as potty in life as she appears in the series. She died in the arms of my doctor friend and with such dignity. When diagnosed with cancer (and she was riddled it with it) she didn't complain. commenting that she's smoked all her life and knew the risks. In addition she had a strong personal faith and believed that she was going to a better place. In a documentary on her life I was delighted to heat that after a difficult life Two Fat Ladies not only provided her with financial security but more importantly were the happiest days of her life. Clarissa Dixon-Wright was an honest fascinating character. Her biography Spilling The Beans is well worth reading. I think Jennifer's biography should have been called, had it been written - Zest For Life.
    It always cheers me to hear Jennifer at the end day "It's been a lovely day, enormous fun. I loved it."
    Two Fat Ladies was certainly a unique show and entertaining still 25 years later.

    The BEST cooking show that ever was. I discovered these ladies when I was 13 years old after the show had ended and been syndicated on The Food Network in America. I get so weepy watching this seeing how delightful these women were. They instilled within me a love and curiosity for cooking. I love watching this too to see the world with no cellphones, no 9/11. A delightful time frozen in my memory. Love you ladies!

      Watch the sheep in the background - you can see how much they sped the recording up by. It’s a great trick though and very convincing but done at a very slow crawl.

    • @TheSpinDoctor
      @TheSpinDoctor 20 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@andrewmiles3378 No they did it themselves - it’s in Clarissa’s memoirs and various interviews with her and the production team. Jennifer just drove the bike at about 2-3 mph and they swapped over very slowly and then the footage was sped up. Far cheaper than hiring stunt performers for a few seconds of throwaway footage intended for one single TV broadcast and that was it!

Their cooking notwithstanding, I would love to hear their stories, replete in the vernacular that I cherish about their delivery. So cool. So missed. I don’t think their relationship off-camera was quite as cordial, particularly where Jennifer was concerned. If you’ve seen the documentary about her…’Jennifer Paterson, one fat lady, one large life’, they said she could be quite acidic towards Clarissa. It’s a good watch about an incredible life. RIP to them both 🙏🏼

You can tell by their banter even if they weren't best friends since they spent so much time working together they definitely enjoyed each other's company and giggles, respect each other. The way I’ve always interpreted it was that they did respect each other deeply. Being two different women thrust together as it were is always a challenge but they both knew it was a great opportunity and took to it with gusto. Jennifer never would hold back on her drinking for Clarissa’s sake, but Clarissa never stated it was something that irritated her (only once being a bit afraid during the segment of them shooting for game). Jennifer was often a bit intimidated by Clarissa’s academic intellect (although Clarissa was prone to making exaggeration at times) but when it came to cooking they respected each others taste and opinions tremendously. They had what we would call a decent working relationship, not the best of friends but clearly proud of their joint accomplishment. And both very good at putting on a show (particularly Jennifer)

    • @trevorlange
      @trevorlange 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@mikegallant811 I honestly can't stand that phrase. As a baker who happens to be on the skinny side it's quite annoying, especially considering that many of friends from university are also on the skinny side but they are some of the best damn chefs and sommeliers I know. Just because you work with food all day does not mean you are eating all day. Judge a chef by their food not their appearance. If you want to judge a professional based on their size then never trust an obese fitness instructor but leave the skinny chefs alone

      They use the name themselves, so, if it didn't bother them, it shouldn't bother anyone else. In fact, they embraced it. It's meant as a term of endearment.
