If you're interested in learning Tai Chi sword, my 42 Tai Chi sword (Taijijian) masterclass is now available for purchase. You can watch the trailer and get more info here: vimeo.com/ondemand/42sword
Anyone interested in learning Tai Chi sword, I will be offering 2 upcoming Masterclasses on October 15 and October 30. You can attend both in person and online. Hope over to the Community tab to see the post with more info. Registration is open now: aipingtaichi.punchpass.com.
What I love about this video is that you use specific movements to best illustrate your point, but ultimately the lesson could apply to any movement. It’s not esoteric, if you will. It’s not niche at all, it’s universal and can be applied to any situation. Even if you’re using a bludgeon or an axe, or god forbid a firearm. You could even still apply these concepts. The mindset and the kind of approach itself really are the keys.
I'm so glad you found this helpful ❤️🙏 There are so many Tai Chi sword videos that give lessons on the steps to the forms choreography but not many on the mindset and approach on how to hold and move with the sword so I wanted to contribute something to help people form a better relationship with their sword :)
This was very well broken down. The jian is near and dear to me. Has been for years, and it helped teach me so much about this kind of movement as a whole. I find it comes to a concept, that the goal is to be with sword always, even when there is no sword.
🙏❤️ I do online lessons and workshops. I did a 5 hour sword masterclass back in October for in-person and online. That workshop video is being edited now and will be available for purchase and download soon. I will do another sword workshop in the summer. If you sign up for our mailing list you can get the info when I will hold it. If you are interested in learning Tai Chi open hands with me, many of my live classes are offered online and I have instructions videos too. I think I posted something in the Community tab with info on all the specials I have this month for Stress Awareness Month. Feel free to reach out if you have any questions :)
Thank you! I have a new Tai Chi Sword for Beginners video that will be published shortly. It's in the exclusive access period for my Patreon subscribers but will be published for the public in a couple of days.
Thank you for the excellent video on TC sword philosophy, this very helpful in my training. Your movements demonstrate the philosophy you’re explaining so well!
Thank you ❤️🙏 My goal is to try to make it more relatable to 21st century minds. I love the poetry of it but it doesn't actually make sense to me if I can't apply it to my life in the here and now. So as I try to make sense of it for myself, I'll share with others 😊
Absolutely superb explanations and more importantly demonstrations of proper body mechanics. You have superb balance, and utilize your core properly. I agree with all of your points. I will only add, that you are stronger than you look ( because you have a well developed and trained nervous system), and that's a superbly well designed and balanced weapon. Tai Chi doesn't appear to be magic, it appears to be a superbly designed Art that works well with ALL of the Natural Laws (so then again, maybe it is magic😉). Great video.
Interesting. I wasn't aware the blade needed to be solid but it makes sense from a physics perspective. The only one I really had experience with was through Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon, which is a masterpiece however it left me with the impression that these blades were flexible and had a temperament that needed to be tamed.
@@AipingTaiChi I am looking for a unsharpened Tai CHi sword with Celtic symbols on it. I appreciate your videos and have doing Tai CHi and Qi ghong for over a year daily and I made it to Tai Chi sword at the Local Rothrock Kung Fu in Wilkes-Barre, PA. I lost 25 pounds. The training has been challenging and sometimes I woke up in the middle of the night in agony . My muscles and tendons began to change and I feel like I have tapped into hidden strength. I am so grateful for these Martial Arts practices and a woman Sifu. Do you know where to get a good sword for home practice?
@@tracymcdermott3461 That is fantastic, I'm so glad you have been having such a great training experience. Do you have space to practice a full length sword? I really like these competition swords: www.kungfudirect.com/index.php?route=product/product&product_id=132 They are balanced well and if you ever compete, they meet regulations. If you don't have space, I like retractable swords. You can still go through the motions but you can retract the sword to a short blade length so you can practice indoors.
@@tracymcdermott3461 European longswords and rapier were somewhat flexible which may have been an inspiration for that too. Still need to be mostly rigid, like springy at most
What’s funny about this common misconception is that western swords historically were way more flexible and China is known more for powerful choppers like Chinese Broadswords for example are thee best when it comes purely to chopping power, imo.
The eyes track the blade as the form starts you look down the outstretched blade as the Yee directs the chi to the blade observe the straightening of the steel a physical manifestation just like you put your key in your car to start it as you turn the key the engine starts likewise for charging the blade. Watch the blade straighten from being slightly bent as the chi overcomes gravity the bend straightens then keep it going. The tassel is the teacher
I own a really pretty Taichi sword but I really have no experience in taichi sword. Do you have instructionals for beginners? I also have seen like a 42 form taichi sword video - are all those movements memorized or is the teacher free flowing? Would love to hear back! Thank you. Here's a video of the sword (is it good?): th-cam.com/video/HBlhu_M5yho/w-d-xo.html
It's a beautiful sword! Like the video said, the right length is important, you don't want the tip to go higher than the top of your ear otherwise it'll be too long for your body and will be difficult to maneuver. How it's weighted is important too, you don't want it to be front heavy. I haven't made any Tai Chi sword instructional videos, mainly because I didn't think there was interest in it. But I can definitely add some sword videos into the video topics for future videos. 42 Sword is also known and the sword compulsory routine. At tournaments when you compete for Grand Champion everyone is required to compete 42 taijiquan (open hand form) and 42 taijijian (sword) routines and then you also choose other routines to compete in. 42 hand and 42 sword are always compulsory routines and the steps and sequences have to be exact, though there's room to bring your flavor and interpretation, but steps have to be done in exact order.
@@AipingTaiChi thats incredible that those forms are memorized! I would love to learn more sword with you. lol I only have my living room but I will follow along as best as possible. Thanks Sifu

I'm so glad the white rabbit brought you here ☺️ I think learning online is a great way to get knowledge and general learning if you don't have a good local instructor teaching what you want to learn. It won't take the place of learning in-person with a good instructor though because beginners won't have a sense of their body's alignment and positioning and weight distribution and tension. It really takes an instructor putting their hands on you to physically adjust your positioning so you can feel the difference between right and wrong position. Where I have found online courses most useful is added as a supplemental resource along with in-person training. Perhaps once a month private lesson + practice using video lessons. Hope that helps 🙏❤️

Sharpened steel-the great equalizer. Suddenly size and height become a whole lot less important. I’m a 200lbs guy and if an untrained child ran at me with a kitchen knife, frankly yeah I could disarm them but I’d probably get cut or even stabbed in the process; that’s how dangerous a blade really is. Disarming a grown human firmly grasping (like when I try to grab it they are too like connected to it, it’s rooted in them) and quickly swinging their weapon is really, *really* hard 😂 So what I’m saying is, the Tai Chi already makes you able to take people much larger than you, but with a sword? It wouldn’t be pretty to see what would happen to them 😂 it would quickly remind people that when we say we say these moves “look pretty but…” what we mean is “…but using it would not be pretty for the opponent”
