This is how i dealt with my
Land Rover Defender TD5 Rocker Cover Gasket Replacement
symptoms
Engine oil leaks down the back of the engine block from the "d " gasket location and continues to leak to the sump area. This is easy to confuse with a leak from the sump as it does spread itself about.
easy fix to do.

Hiya have you ever had problems with the oil filler cap O ring letting oil past, and is it a standard O ring, and what's the black sealer you use.

I use rtv silicone for oil and heat areas, Ive never had an issue with the cap leaking, is it definitely from the cap and not the fuel pressure regulator on the rear left side, as these are prone to leak. Good luck

How the heckins did you replace that without the injector loom trying to force its way out??

Thanks for this one, just going in to do seals and change injector harness. Will watch out putting rocker cover back on for dropping those inserts, thanks.
