This is literally made by the creators of Field Intensity. If they portray Stefan with a gas mask, then I'm inclined to believe that he canonically has a gas mask. The only time we see Stefan from third person in Field Intensity is at the ending, and yes, he doesn't have a gas mask, but Stefan loses his nightvision half way through the game, and it could be that his gas mask went with it.
@xxfalconarasxx5659 The other time we see Stefan is in Opposing Force. The guy with a black beret placed on a stretcher is literally him. So really, the way we could make sense of his nightvision is that he lost it early on. The detail is not very important though. We don't see Gordon put on a helmet wearing his HEV suit but it's implied that he is.
