    It wasn't just "someone" who was supposed to be bitten in Earth-42. In the Spot's dialogue explaining about how he brought the spider over, in just a few frames you can see it's actually Earth-42 Miles the spider was about to bite. The Spot stole that spider right before it was about to bite the "correct" Miles. Makes me wonder if it somehow knew it was supposed to bite "Miles Morales" and as such searched for him in 1610.
    I also love how many hints they give you towards Miles being in the wrong dimension. The color palette used in 42 is slightly different, so it's just barely noticeable that something is wrong. Then, his mother mentions Comic Con, but in the 1st movie when Peter brings it up he realizes that 1610 does not have Comic Con.

    • @playgroundchooser
      @playgroundchooser ปีที่แล้ว +39

      Nice catch on the comic con! I noticed that his mom's eyes were suddenly the wrong color. They are brown in 1610, and they were green in 42.

      Not to mention the room is completely different. We saw E1610 Miles's room earlier. It was set up like a kid's room with toys and such. The E42 room looks completely different, but it's easy to miss when focused on Miles revealing his secret identity.

    I've seen it 5 times and the weight of what Miles is going through is really sinking in. His parents are upset with him, Spot blames him for ruining his life, Miguel blames him for Peter's death, his closest friends lied to him and betrayed him--that's a lot to deal. Where he is in the beginning vs where he is at the end is a huge difference.
    Also, can we just appreciate how incredible the facial expressions are in this movie???

    I'm from India, so I was dreading the inclusion of Pavitra from the first time he showed up in the trailers. But they did an excellent job creating a 21st century Indian kid to show on screen - and my thester cheered for him multiple times. I loved how in the Spider-Man 2099 universe, at first it had this utopian metropolis look. But then when they went below the surface during the chase sequence, there was this dystopian cyberpunk underworld hiding beneath. Felt very in-sync with this universe’s Spider-Man, this high-tech heroic protector with a lot of darkness under the surface.

    • @Ren_Davis0531
      @Ren_Davis0531 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      That’s straight from the comics. Miguel’s Nueva York literally is a city built on top of the old city. Their downtown is literally downtown. It’s a cyberpunk world where the setting is high-tech, low-life.

      I don't even consider it a part one because this feels complete in a way. Like, yes is there a character trapped by an enemy. Is there a mission to save him in the works, yes. But, that's kind of how Empire Strikes Back ends.

Having said that I’m pumped for the third movie.

    A small thing that I noticed was that maybe part of why Gwen makes the choice to go help miles is her dad quitting, meaning a police captain close to the spider person cannot die in this universe anymore because she has no relationship with the police. Noticing her universe not unraveling clued her into the idea that 2099 is either lying or doesn't understand the actual truth of what's happening.
    Also loved spider-punk telling miles to make his own bracelet earlier in the movie and then that coming back with spiderpunk having made one

    The sound issue is a result of the fact that the movie is mixed to dolby reference level 7 - there was a note sent out from Lord & Miller to theatres asking to play the movie at 7.0 or 7.5 in a full house - generally, theatres default to 5 or 6 (quite a large difference) - the problem is most theatres are chains and they dont allow their managers that much control, so if they wanted to set it to that volume they would have to manually adjust every single show at the start of it, which is just unrealistic. If theatre chains would just allow management to change cueues to automate it, or even just have their IT departments do it, it could easily be fixed. Or if they had just boosted the whole film by 1 or 2db

      That's super interesting, I definitely had the same issue with the opening so I'm glad to hear it's a theater issue and not a movie one. I would have hoped that going to an IMAX would mean not worrying about that but apparently not

    • @phoen1x_plays
      @phoen1x_plays ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @eltman1012 ours have mostly been digital for years now from Deluxe (work at a chain) but we also don't have dedicated protectionists, just managers and everything is locked down with corporate so we can't automate the audio levels. We didn't get the note about the audio in the Ingest Letter, it was a separate notice sent out by Lord & Miller that we got sent by email from our corporate office, started out something along the lines of "Dear Theatre Projectionists, ye unsung heroes of theatrical exhibition..." and they mentioned that the movie is designed to be played at 7 and that in test screenings they'd done they found that in a full house it played better at 7.5

    • @ZachBobBob

      This makes sense to me. I’ve seen so many folks complain about the sound mix and I had no problem at all in my theater (and I have poor hearing, I usually rely on CC).
      I was expecting something like this, where the default is a problem and many theaters weren’t making an active change to optimize the sound.

    I think the canon events aren’t the events themselves, but the emotional and personal growth that comes from them. If Miles dad dies when Miles is stuck in a trap, he doesn’t learn anything from that and could likely become a villain. Choosing to save the Spot over saving his dad though, or however else they spin it, allows that growth to happen

    I was blown away by the whole Spider-Gwen arc. Especially loved Hailee performing the speech she gives her father about the mask being her badge, which is taken almost word-for-word from Edge of Spider-Verse #2. And yeah, the movie did feel like a complete arc, except this time it was Gwen we were following and not Miles...or at least, not only Miles. Also loved the end twist, which I was slow to pick up on too. I thought something was off with the animation, and it wasn't until the reveal that I realized Miles was just a little off from the world around him. So clever....can't wait for part 3.

    The beginning with Gwen story and founding out she accidentally killed her peter Parker and was being on the run from her dad had your heart break. The relationship with miles and his parents was very much the heart of the movie. The cliff hanger really works cause we leave him right where the next movie should open with miles facing who he could have been
    The way they transform the spot from a joke to and threat was great. Spider punk was brilliant. Gwen Stacey was brilliant in this movie. The way they use the cameos really help the feel of the movie and the way the mix animation style and made it feel like they all belong in the same scene.

    One of the best things this movie does with its story is continuously talk about this notion of "choice" and how it affects events. Whether it being Miles wanting to save his dad, or Miles saving the cop in the Spider-Man India's world or even to something big like his relationship with Gwen where you can tell they both want to take the leap and like each other as more then friends. Like Gwen mentioned, in every other universe it never ends well but maybe just maybe Miles going against that and taking his own leap could make it a thing this time around and him and Gwen actually get together romantically. If even the state of the art screening rooms on the studio’s backlot are having sound issues, then it seems like something went wrong when they were doing the theatrical sound mix. It’ll be interesting to see what happens with the home releases as from my understanding, they often make a separate sound mix for the home release, so if they haven’t locked down that sound mix yet, they might end up making changes to prevent the issues that people are currently seeing (or hearing in this case) with the theatrical release.

      Imax showing in the UK was really difficult to hear the talking during the start with Gwen and maybe a couple of brief parts during the rest of it.

      I had audio issues in the beginning. The music was fighting hard with Gwen’s monologue. Issue seemed fixed for like 98 percent of the movie but the lowered levels of character dialogue came back from time to time. Seems consistent with issues people have had so maybe the sound editor of the film made a minor mistake in some areas

    The figure in the pack of Miguel's lab isn't another person strung up. The character designer in charge of Miguel's design in this movie, Kris Anka, is a comic book artist who had previously designed Miguel's modern white
    suit in the comics, and the figure in the background is just a prototype version of that exact suit. It's either a foreshadowing for his look in the next movie or simply a nod to the artist's previous work.

    What a film! I saw the 1st showing on Thursday in Dolby Cinema at AMC. (LOVE the poster they gave us BTW!),. I noticed the low audio in those opening few minutes, before the title card. While I could hear Gwen speaking, her volume was really low. But after the title sequence, the volume was fine. The next day I started seeing people talking about the same thing. As far as the ending? I forgot this was technically, part 1 of 2. So when it ended on a cliffhanger, while I was already feeling the run-time, I was both bummed it was over, and gotta wait 9 months for the finale!.....MAN...WHAT A FILM!!!!!!!!!! Cant wait to see it again!

    Honestly, I hope they DON'T add any new characters. It's always a mistake to bloat the cast. Spot was already absent for the entire second half of this film and the 3rd movie is gonna have to dive deeper into Miguel and Evil Miles before their face-turns. The writers need to focus and flesh out the characters they've already introduced to prevent sidelining them or plot device-ing them.

    I'm happy you brought up the sound mixing-- I had the exact same problems with the dialogue in the exact same ways that you mentioned. I think this problem was also exaggerated by the fact that there's a lot of dialogue in the first place, there's often many characters talking over each other, and most characters are wearing a mask that covers their mouth half the time.

    I’m one of the ppl who didn’t realize it was a part 1, and wish I had. I adored the movie and had no issues, it was just mildly confusing to understand the pacing without knowing it. I’d occasionally disengage from the movie wondering how certain elements were going to fit into runtime, and worrying the end was going to be rushed. And then it ended lol.
    I’m actually really looking forward to watching it again, and just being able to enjoy the story they tell me, without wondering how they’re going to fit in everything else- Miles and his family reconnecting, Miles and Oscar Isaac coming head to head, Miles and his friends reconnecting, etc.

    I saw it at my local IMAX and didn't have any difficulty understanding the dialogue, but the mix did seem a bit off during the opening drum solo sequence.
    Spider-man is the only comic-book character that I was invested in as a kid, and it's amazing that we're getting treated to a second truly great film trilogy, along with the MCU spider-man, which has been just shy of great imo.

    I think the implication is that on earth 42 Miles was supposed to be Spider-Man. But his spider jumped universes and bit our Miles. So he became the Prowler instead because his dad died and he didn’t have any influence other than his uncle. Who survived because there wasn’t Spider-Man to stop him.

And the moments with Miles and his mother was so touching. There was a lot of moments when I could see my son looking at me out the corner of my eye. ❤ The animation has somehow leveled up even more! When the intro started, I thought I was going to be in trouble because it was almost too much for me with my glasses, but it smoothed out once it went along. My heart hurt for Miles. I felt the anxiety and sadness he was going through with finding out about canon events and as well as he was never meant to be Spider-Man. In regards to people not knowing it was 2 parts, that definitely happened in my theater. They were people who hollered out when that "To be continued" came up. My son was also like, "Wait, what?!". I guess they missed the original announcement as well.
