      Suggestion for Rivian: R&D into charger/vechicle tech that enables the car to dock and self-charge (like a roomba). I should be able to drive to a charging station, hit a button a just walk out of my Rivian and it'll do the rest.

    Thank You Wassym and Team! Just got our R1S a few weeks ago and already have a 2500 mile road trip under our belt. I've owned a lot of EVs (ID4, Tesla 3 and Y, etc.) and I feel that the Rivian software is already far superior, especially the Navigation system. The "Are We There Yet" feature will be a HIT with our kids. Keep up the good work your customers really do appreciate it!

    • @mikeiimura
      @mikeiimura 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I will raise this feature request even higher - ABRP can use CANbus dongles, so the app could have access to charging power and connection time, etc. for non-Rivian vehicles. If they can extend this feature completely to connected ABRP users, that would be awesome.

  • @LarsDennert

    Fabulous update. I'm still scratching my head on why Rivian doesn't have an API account for EA to expose availability in the NAV not to mention plug and charge. EA should really simplify this (give it for free) if they want people to stop at their chargers but they don't seem to care.

  • @RedlineR1S

    Love the updates and Wassym is such a wonderful ambassador for Rivian. My ask is, and I've sent in the request a few times, is that Rivian add more charging networks. There are multiple networks they don't have and it's caused issues with road trips. Circle K's network is a prime example of a network they don't have.

    • @tomm5936

      I’m not a Rivian driver but I’m curious. Does this mean you don’t see the charger at all or is it under “other networks” or whatever that’s called? I drive a Kia and I have the issue of both chargers missing completely in the navigation and many showing under other instead of showing under a network e.g. Circle K.

    Tom, it would be fantastic if the charging cost data were available for L1/L2 home charging all the owner would need to do is set the Utility rate. Imagine stepping in your vehicle in the morning and the first thing you see is SOC with the Amount added and cost for the last session with maybe running monthly total.

    • @akc5247
      @akc5247 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @@StateOfChargeWithTomMoloughney But if Rivian stops routing drivers there (which is the entire point of this rating, isn't it?), it seems like they won't get that data. • @akc5247
      @akc5247 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +6

      As a Rivian Owner, I appreciate this update.
      In regards to above question, There may be cases where customers may need to use low rated locations due to their battery levels, need to stop for something else etc.
      They may also incorporate some other methods by which ratings are collated to give better information for all owners out there.
      Let's not assume we or Rivian have all the answers. It is iterative and improving. Good luck.

    • @StateOfChargeWithTomMoloughney
      @StateOfChargeWithTomMoloughney  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +10

      @IvanSchustak They won't stop routing there. The owner can filter out the low scoring sites in the navigation. But a lot of drivers don't always use the navigation to choose sites, they choose them themselves- that's how I do it. The low scoring sites will still get utilized and if they improve so will their scores.

  • @HarveyPayne
    @HarveyPayne 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    You can filter the display but it doesn’t seem to use that filter when choosing chargers. I am eagerly awaiting my NACS adapter like nearly all Rivian owners. I have “needs adapter” filtered out in my R1T because I don’t have my adapter yet. Yesterday the truck decided I needed to charge to make my destination and it chose a Tesla supercharger along the route and properly displayed “adapter needed.” It shouldn’t be picking these or there should be a way to filter out these from the routing system for those of us without the adapter yet. There were lots of other choices in the general area including a magic dock station that would have worked. Ultimately we went to a RAN station nearby. Again, something that works for what I have available.

    Is there some sort of redemption process for charging locations that are graded below B? Say that a charge location that was given an F changed ownership, and the new owner has invested significantly to re-build the location and improve charging there. How can that charging provider ask to get their location re-scored. Also if a charge point operator is graded below B, are they notified that all Rivian customers are being advised to avoid that location. At least in Plug Share, if a change location gets a low score there, that score is publicly available to everyone. Not so in the Rivian app.

    Hi Tom, great interview. We need to get an answer to how a station will get reevaluated. Imagine an EA station gets bad sessions and gets a lower grade to the point that it falls bellow a B, so Rivian's algorithm will stop sending people to it. But image EA comes around and fixes the station. How do people or the software discover the new state of the station and reevaluate the sessions. I think Wassym explained 200 sessions are needed for them to give a station a grade. So how will a station that has fallen out of the top tier ever get the 200 new sessions needed to get a new grade.

    I don’t know if Wassym will read these comments - I’m curious if the score is based on bad dispensers, too? I mean, if a site has 6 stalls, but only 4 work at all, but those 4 work perfectly, it would probably get a good score, because when people plug in, they’ll succeed. (On that note, when will EA stall availability start showing? It shows in my Ford navigation system, but not my Rivian.)

    • @AnonymousFreakYT
      @AnonymousFreakYT 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      My update is complete, and I have answered my own question - I mapped a route that is “out and back”, ~180 miles each way. So of course I’ll need to charge at least once. It wants me to stop at a station close to the “midpoint destination” for an hour! And that station has an “A”, yet two of its six dispensers are shown as offline, and three more are currently in use! That should *NOT* be an “A”.

    • @LarsDennert
      @LarsDennert 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@AnonymousFreakYT I think it's an A if you can charge there successfully like you originally surmised. You only need one station. Would it get an A if it were a 4 station site with three in use? I'm sure they have a weighted rating system but you are right, they won't know how long you sat in a Q waiting to charge. They should take kwh cost and session fees into account as well as speed and availability. The car can crowd source much of this data.

    The Rivian stations use three-way power share per charger, so that if only one Rivian is plugged into of three stalls connected to that charger, you get full power. But if another plugs in on that same string, then it's split 2 way for a maximum of 150kw. And if a third plugs in, the max is only 100kw max.
    Furthermore, if they don't move the port on the R2 and R3 to be able to charge on Tesla V3 stalls without carrying around an extension or taking 2 spots, they are going to lose massive sales. And they're not going to survive.

    • @LarsDennert
      @LarsDennert 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Standby fees are a huge drag on the cost. Also, they are still accepting feedback on the R2 port. People who tow or carry accessories (bikes) don't want it in the back either. Only the first CCS car at a Tesla station needs to take two spots. The next ones can pull up and block/use only one like any other car by parking next to another CCS car. The formula for adding CCS vehicles is n-1 stations usable where n is the number of stations.

    Rivian rating chargers is a fundamentally flawed concept and poor use of their limited development resources. We care about what a charger is doing today, not last month, not on average. A “D” rated charger could recently have been repaired, upgraded or replaced. An “A” rated charger could recently have been vandalized or be experiencing problems. Limited sample size - Rivian does not have enough vehicles on the road to provide statistically valuable information. There’s no granularity around the rating to help inform decisions. Rivian just got access to the largest and most reliable charging network, Tesla, so why burn your precious development cycles on this project when there are so many other much needed software improvements. To sell more vehicles and keep existing customers happy, Rivian needs to pick up the pace on substantive new features and functions. Rating chargers does not move the needle. I’m tired of hearing what nice guys Wassym and RJ are. Demand is slowing, Rivian has been plagued with poor execution and they’re driving the company into a death spiral.
