How to Play PS2 ISOs on a Jailbroken PS3 with Rebug CFW

- This tutorial or how-to guide is a step by step instructional video showing how to play PlayStation 2 (PS2) games on a modified/jailbroken PS3 using the REBUG custom firmware. This method shows you how to transfer your PS2 game to the PS3 using either a flash drive or over your network via FTP. multiMAN is used to transfer the game over to the console itself while as webMAN is used to mount and boot up the game. Finally, this tutorial will work on ALL jailbroken PS3 consoles! You do not need to worry about having a hardware or software based backwards compatible console, although you must realize that compatibility and performance might not be great on a console that was build without backwards compatibility in mind.

To anyone confused:the newer versions of rebug don't have webman packed with them,you need to install it separately

In all honesty, if you're on Rebug Lite? Enable the QA flag with a QA toggler, and downgrade your CFW to the latest full version of Rebug.

@@RockNRollDad88 You should be able to see which version of Rebug you have in the Rebug menus, somewhere. I’m not at home or I’d refresh my memory and check where it is. But go into some of the CFW menus and look for your version.

And yeah i am a total noob to this 🤣 jailbroke my psp and my 3ds a month ago and thougt then i could handle a ps3 too, but then it was already jailbroken, so i never learned anything from setting it up

Turn the usb to ntfs and use irisman to download games to the hdd 💪🏼

I'm really happy I stumbled onto your page. First your tutorial helped making my PS Vita epic and now i have purpose for an expensive piece of hardware that has been collecting dust since the birth of the PS4. I'm hoping i can play import games now that my system is jailbroken.
Have fun! However the Vita doesn't have region locking on games, so you can play imports without mods to begin with.

I didn't do mines like this. All I did was download Cobra CFW, Multiman, download the games to my External HDD, Plugged it to the PS3, Moved the games to the Internal HDD and just boot the game up thru Multiman. I didn't have to mess with no HML or download Webman.... But this is interesting tho.
the thing is, how did you put games bigger than 4GB on a fat32 usb device to transfer?

I'm having some trouble, I followed this step by step but when I enter Rebug Toolbox, in the "Selector" column I only got 2 options available:
-Toggle COBRA Mode
-Toggle XMB CFW settings
So I can't find the "Toggle PS2 Emulator" option or any of the other options.
You're not the only with that problem mate. Eventhough I've got a newer version of rebug toolbox than Mr Mario. Weird

I had the same problem, but then I went into Multiman, picked a ps2 iso, I then got sent to the dashboard and there was an unnamed ps2 iso there so I clicked on it and the game worked but don't ask me why. Don't think it's a model that had ps2 compatibility built in, either chip or emulator.

yeah me too, but I can run ps2 games immediately after the PS2 Disk shows in the XMB screen without the need for going through all of this 4:50

had to manually download the new rebug toolbox, when I open it I get a message saying i'm not running on compatible REBUG COBRA configuration, and the I won't be able to enable cobra. inside the program, I only have 3 item under "Selector", no PS2 emulator, etc...
Does anyone know why? I'm using an 4.46 CFW, that's what it says in the system info, I can't by the life of me remember any other detail about the CFW since I haven't touched my PS3 in years.
Do I need to install a new CFW maybe? If so, do I need to backup my PS3 hard drive...?
What ever I do copy PS2 game directly from the disc thru MM on my console,or download ISO ps2 game its allways a same in ,in the end whan I run the game it shot down my console like I get out cable power cable,must presa I/O one time ro get power in console and than second time to run it????

I use Irisman, go into option select ntfs drive or usb stick on the left and hdd0 on the right, then triangle on the game to copy it to hdd0 Ps2iso. After it is copied, i mount it with Multiman manager one time, after that you can just open normally within the webman menu.

I don't even use the PC, I do the whole thing (ftp and downloading) with my phone, with a file manager called ES Explorer, then booting the game with Multiman and that's it !

When I go into my ReBug Toolbox and go to Selector my only options are “Toggle COBRA Mode” and “Toggle XMB CFW settings”. Am I missing something or is it part of the latest update?

I'm pretty sure it's because this is based on an old version of ReBug Toolbox, since the video was made 2 years ago. It's likely that these are automatically implemented in current versions of the MultiMan and/or ReBug where changing the settings aren't necessary. I was able to go into MM, select my game in Retro, it brings back up XMB and the Playstation 2 Format Disc, where I open up and it plays just fine. Just make sure to create your PS2 Memory Card and assign it a slot ahead of time.
i have the 4.85.1 rebug cfw and the rebug toolbox for some reason only 2 options in the rebug toolbox selector are showing and everytime i try to load a ps2 game it shows the ps2 logo and goes to a black screen. i have all the files i need as far as the multiple tutorials i've seen go but it just doesn't work

you can do bigger than 4gb if you have an extra usb in NTFS. download managunz from brewology (file manager that has built in NTFS support) and you can just copy it to the console.

When I put my IP in FileZilla, it just days “Could not connect to server” please help.
Update: I fooled around with FileZilla settings then just uninstalled and reinstalled to reset the settings and it works now
yo dont go into multiman for file zila go to rebug tool box 100% its going to work there

I can't be certain if this a is a product of the video being a few years old or not but: in the toolbox section, I didn't have the system mode switch under selector. Not only that, but as soon as I transferred the game (via multiman) I could just straight up play the game. Maybe the modders streamlined this over the past few years but yeah, cheers for the help though, it was greatly appreciated.

So mine was doing the same thing but , i didnt use filezilla BTW, i had transferred it from usb to hardrive PS2ISO folder went to multiman, went to retro tab mounted the game, it sends you back to xmb went into webman folder went the playstation 2 folder and clicked on the game. Once that happened it mounted the game to xmb and i hit the game and it loaded right up but i had the same issue with rebug and im running Rebug LITE 4.85 idk if this will help but it magically worked so lol

I didn't need to do anything after this, I just launched the game and it worked.

@@seifamir8906 Yes. After I installed the custom firmware I used multi-man to do a ftp and it works with every game from there. I do have rebug toolbox but I left everything stock, even the system mode.

No matter what I do, I get to the multiMAN screen, press x, it downloads, but the games never show up as “PlayStation 2 Format disc”.

Awesome tutorial, I just busted an all nighter getting my PS3 jailbroken 😅.
I'm trying to get some of the PS2 games on here but everything is going perfect except for when I try to run the ISO on multiman. Instead of saving to HD it asks to convert to PS2 Classic format. Any leads on what I'm doing wrong?

the pkg file and install it;
Or move the game folder BLUS... Thing to HDD in a folder also named "Games", that one with the robot emoji;
Or move the game ISO to HDD in PS3ISO;
Then choose the game are u looking for and the the Xbm will restart;
The game is done already to be played...
I don't know why so many steps, maybe for more stability mmmh...
my console just crashes when trying to run the game (crashes on the first loading screen)

'FileZilla/Transfer' your PS2 backups into /dev_hdd0/PS2ISO on the PS3. Launch/Install webMann, You will be on XMB after starting it; on top corner "webMann Loaded". Go into webMann FOLDER under 'Game' in XMB, Select "Playstation 2 ISO", in that folder select your ISO' you would like to run, it will exit you out of the webMann sub-folders to the GAME XMB and show you "Playstation 2 Format Disc" icon then, top corner "PS2 Game SCPH. Loaded". The PS2 disc will change to the one you selected. To change the game? go back to webMann folders and select a different disc/ISO. It will exit you out of the sub folders again and show in top corner the ISO as loaded. You don't need MultiMann for this. Added new ISO's to your internal HDD or USB? go into webMann folders and at top go into options and refresh gamelist, go to Custom Firmware Tools and do a soft reboot, webMann will reload as it should say on the top of your PS3 after rebooting and your freshly transfered ISO's will appear, no need to MultiMann patch any PS2 game...... Launch right from XMB all your backups. I haven't had to use multiman yet as FTP works on XMB right when PS3 starts...

The link for rebug didnt work, i was able to find a pup file for rebug but have no idea where to go from there as its not a pkg file. I can see my ISOs but it crashes the system if i just try to open them in multiman
I´ve done all steps, Tried loading Timesplitters 2, but before the "Playstation 2" logo appears, the controller shuts down, and the screen goes black. I can start the controller again and press the ps button, and then I get the meny where I can quit game and return to the XMB..

That really sucks that ps2 only play from the internal hard drive, I have a lot of discs so I hoped they would be playable from a portable harddrive.

PLEASE HELP When i open up the rebug toolbox the only thing that shows up on selectors are toggle cobra mode and toggle xmb cfw settings, both of which are enabled. I have no idea what to do please help. I should also point out I tried your tutorial using managunz and the ISO i'm trying to play is a modded dbzbt3, not sure if it's not working because it's modded but with the managunz method after the ps2 logo goes away nothing happens just a black screen

I would recomend installing the Webman 1.45.2 mod pack :) lots of great features that make using Webman even easier!

Seeing that GTA3 gameplay brought back so many memories.....
For all those users struggling with FileZilla. I reccommend uninstalling your curent version of FileZilla and downloading the one which is version "3.16.X" (X means any - I have "3.16.1" and it worked fine)

nothing easy about this... I've jailbroken my psp (well, sony did, I just pushed a button) and my 3ds (getting the 128gb sdcard on fat32 was harder than the hack)... I'm at this stuff for about 5 hours now and it still won't run ps2 games. The software seems fine, but the various methods i've tried to place/start/encrypt the ps2 iso's all end in disaster...

Good Video Mario, but your description is not 100% right. You can't play all of the games on non-BC. For example Crash Twinsanity does not work on non-BC Consoles. Oh and btw: you can also use burned discs of you own a BC Console. Same for PS1 games but these games work on all jailbroken models as burned disc. You could also add that you can't use peripheries when using non-BC Consoles. SingStar, EyeToy and Buzz need the USB stuff and these doesn't get recognized by the non-BC console.

Why is PlayStation 2 format disc option not showing up to me in XMB? The game is showing up in multiman under retro (in HDD) so what's wrong? And why am i asked to use PS2 classics placeholder to run the game? I went ahead and installed ps2 classics placeholder, chose the game, got sent back to XMB, click on ps2 classics placeholder:
"the copyright protection information is invalid (80029513)"
If you are still having trouble, try "activating"the account through the menu, that worked for me.
ps2iso's work via webman tooon latest rebug cex,for me that's more convenient.they also need to be on internal hdd,as psp iso's also.ps3 and ps1 work from external ntfs hdd right out the box woth webman.

When I am on Filezilla, I am unable to find the PS2ISO folder when on devhdd0
Use a usb and put a smaller game on the ps3 first then do the filezilla thing that's what worked of me the PS2ISO folder should show up then
then you dont have it literally right click, make new directory, and name it PS2ISO

Hello Mr. Mario, I have just finished jail-breaking my PS3 and something i noticed right away was there isn't a webman toggle option in the latest rebug. I did some digging around and found a post that said that all I have to do is run a webman update pkg. I have done so but I still don't see the toggle option in the toolbox, should it show up or not after update? Also i have ran through your steps you laid out in this video and cant seem to get .Hack Infection to work. Would you by chance know why it wouldn't be working?

I have done cfw for some ps3s but never a fat though. Your cpu temp is too high i guess at 82c without gaming. Rsx seems to be ok at 60c. Just something i noticed. Thanks a lot for the time you spend making these videos. Much appreciated.
No doubt it is, I've used this system minimally and I know it's full of dust from the previous owner so I'll clean it out one of these days. Good looking out.
Hey, thanks alot for this tutorial, but webMAN doesn't want to save any game data of the PS2ISOs, apparently the system says there are no Memory cards, even though I have completed that step

First gen PS3 FAT is the best to play PS2 games as it has GS & EE from PS2 built in. NFS Underground 2 for example is laggy in PS3 Slim.

That is the only game that is really important to me... but it works on PC ... so I wonder how many other game would lags all stupid on a slim :/

you dont need it on 4.84 ! after you copy your game on your ps3 hdd just enter multiman again ! go to retro hit refresh press x on you game and then on xmb press x on the playsation 2 disc format

U don't need webman but if you want then just download the PKG put it in your USB and install to your PS3. I only use multiman and you must have cobra mode enabled on Rebug tool box.
this is easy to follow,im trying it out soon, but does rebug have any side effects on the console? can it affect other ps3 games?
