How to play PlayStation 2 games on your PS3 using MultiMan and ManaGunz! Your PS3 must have Custom Firmware to do this! You also require a USB to copy across the PS2.

DISCLAIMER: PS2 ISO'S WILL NOT BOOT WHILST MOST 3RD PARTY CONTROLLERS ARE CONNECTED, I FOUND THIS OUT AFTER 3 DAYS OF GOING BACK AND FORTH BETWEEN CFW'S, INSTALLING ALL DIFFERENT PACKAGES, FOLLOWING DIFFERENT TUTORIALS, I THOUGHT I WAS NOT DOING SOMETHING RIGHT BUT AFTER WASTING 3 DAYS IT WAS THE BLOODY CONTROLLER PREVENTING IT FROM BOOTING LOL, CONNECTED A GENUINE SONY PS3 CONTROLLER A VOILA, IT WORKS!!

@@BloxburgBasketball_Network i'm also using a ps4 controller, for reference, does your PS2 games start correctly but after a few minutes the console turns off? Because that's what's been happening to me.
WHY ARE YOU YELLING
I just disconnected my comtroller right after I pressed X and it loaded. It says "This model of the PS3™ system is not compatible with Playstation®2 format software." though.
I downloaded everything and my ps2 games don't load .it just says ps2 disc ..I do use a PS4 controller . Can this be my problem?

Great video. Managunz is often overlooked but it has some great features. It can read NTFS drives and so large games can be copied to the ps3 hdd without having to break up the files. It also seems to boot up games that multiman struggles with. Using them both together works best.

I tried but back then there was a higher risk of being banned if you sign in online. Didn't wanna lose anything. Also now there's a larger library of games that work. More issues have been ironed out. So personally I don't mind waiting. I could hack my PS4 too but I'll wait a few more years for that.

I love how you keep all your video's short, simple, and to the point. You are by far the best homebrew youtuber. Is there any way you could show us how to boot up ps3 isos? I modded my ps3 earlier this year but have not really been able to do anything but load games on retroarch. Now that I know how to do ps2 I would like to do a ps3 game.
Just put the game files in the GAMES folder in hdd0 then you can play it with MMCM
Um a ps3 iso in a ps3? Why not just insert the disc?

They did both get ported to the ps3 and put on the ps store but yeah.
Managunz, freezes every time I try to launch any games, but every single ps2 game works launching thru multiman

I personally just launch MultiMan so its embedded FTP server launches, and then I connect to the aforementioned FTP server on the PS3 via something like FileZilla and I copy my ISOs like that. Running Managunz to copy the ISO is sort of unnecessary if you already have mmCM (Multiman) installed, but to each their own I suppose. Also to note is the fact that you'll only get near perfect compatibility if you have an early gen PS3 (of which has the PS2 on an SoC, essentially the entire PS2 motherboard on a single chip inside that early model PS3). If you have a PS3 Slim all PS2 game ISOs will run under COBRA PS2 emulation and your milage may vary due to that. With that said, I actually have a softmodded (with HDD) PS2, so all my games work just fine, so I don't use my PS3 for PS2 gaming often, but I digress.
I just bought a ps3 slim to mod, but it already was modded, had webman and multiman on there and when i open something or put a disc in, it opens with COBRA. Is that why this thing don't work for me?

For people who didn’t have their game pop up in retro on mm, you prolly didn’t extract your iso file that was my problem atleast

This method doesn't work for me. I'm getting "unrecognised disc" format on disk image. And when I want to start the game, it's showing me message "your model ps3 is not compatible with ps2 games"....

Although this method is NOT SUITABLE for you. If wanna play ps2, you should make the iso as .pkg format, make it as ps2 classics and done! There are tons of tutorials available online

I will use your masterpiece method to test PS2 compatible games on the PS3. Thanks man, you helped me confirm that True Crime Streets of LA just has small framerate issues and some of the audio quality gets a bit bad along with those objects on the fighting training rooms are invisible.

Thank you James!!!!!!!!!!!! I have a ps3 ending in 2101A and I have wasted hours on other tutorials from Han, Multispam, etc that all end up with the same message "This version of PS3 system does not support PS2 media." This is the first and only process that has worked flawlessly!

Hi, quick question I did everything step by step, copied the ps2 ISO to the ps3 with Multiman and then selected the same ISO game with Managunz, UNFORTUNATELY incompatible data appears for me. and tried that in 2 games. hope you help me thanks and best regards

Can someone please help me? I did everything as instructed in the video, but I can't start the game.
The icon isn't like in the video "PS2 formatted disc", it's a question mark icon and it's called Unsupported data. When I start it I get the message "This model of PS3 systen is not compatible with PS2 format software".
What can I do to fix this? I got this PS3 from a friend recently and don't know many things about it, so if not a problem explain to me in further detail things that are widely known, I'm a PS3 novice.

Sorry to reply to you this late, I just got a PS3 this year "2024" but months ago and trying to mod my PS3 with just a phone and a Chromebook 😅 but my guess is that most "ISO" files are decrypted in order to work in the PS3 it needs to be Encrypted

@@nightin9871 Not sure if you figured it out, but just in case anyone else is looking for an answer I'll note my findings. I followed the process in Multiman to install multiple games to the hard drive, once those are all there, then I can use Managunz to mount the game that I want. So, you only have to install the game on the hard drive once, but you have to mount the game you want to play before you can play it. As an aside, I didn't have to use the multiman process to transfer the games via USB stick. I could open Multiman to start the ftp server, and then FTP the PS2 ISO files directly from my PC to the PS3. The PS2 ISO files go into the " /dev_gdd0/PS2ISO/ " folder on the PS3. Once they're there, I can use Managunz to mount them just as if I had followed the Multiman USB method.

CD format PS2 ISO work ?
The PS2 ISO's don't work. It just sends me to the home screen and nothing shows up.
When it kicks you to the home screen, if you scroll up do you get the PS2 disk icon?click the ps2 disk to load the game. It’s a two step process.
@@lastlime3792 From what I remember, it would take me to the home screen, I would click on the game, and I forgot what happened after that. I think it just turned off or something.
I’m on cfw 4.89, followed all the steps and I get a black screen every time I try to run a game, I tried webman as well same issue
I also get this issue but I'm running Hen. I guess they don't automatically support emulating PS2 anymore so there are more hoops to go through to get it working. Still figuring it out myself

@@luct1016 That's why. PS3 Super Slims do not have PS2 BC. It relies on emulation rather than having proper PS2 hardware, which I believe MG utilizes.
For any skilled home brewers out there, I have followed all the steps above, but in the end, the game is labeled as “unsupported data” Anyone know what I’m doing wrong at this point?

only one ps3 model has ps2 compatibly, it is the ps3 fat model, you either have a ps3 slim or super slim, but all of them work with ps1 games which is cool.

You forgot to say this is only for PS3 FAT !! Slim and Super Slim are not compatible (error says unsupported data due this method emulates the backward compatibility lector from the PS3 Fat) only PKG for those systems so far... we will have to wait for a while
it works with slim and super slim + only rare few of Fats are backward compatible
Is there any way to get the USB ports working for third party controllers? I find that nothing else besides a DualShock 3/4 works, which is a shame because I would love to use arcade style fighting sticks for the fighting games.

You need to use PS2 classic converter to convert the .iso to a .pkg
It would help if tuts like this made mention of the fact that you need a Fat32 device to be read, but a lot of good PS2 games are over that size, and cannot be played via USB.
You need to trick your usb into thinking it’s smaller than it is I’m literally downloading games on a 128gb San disk usb

You can use a ntfs usb but you need to install the prep ntfs pkg
im confused why did you need ManaGunz to run it, it was gonna run through multiman :S
as a backup, jailbreaks and homebrew are unpredictable at best ( I should know I have hella modded consoles) so its purely a backup

Some PS3 games dont show up or run on Multiman and Mangunz as well. So Its a good idea to have both.

It would be great to add an Artemis PS2 Cheat as well and then load the game with ManaGunz! With that we don't have to struggle each time by adding codebreaker elf files into the iso and then look dumb when it crashes! ;)

I did everything but when I mount the game to the disk and click the start my tv shows blank screen and the hdmi disconnected... The ps3 is still open but not responding until I force it to power off and restart. Any clue?

You need to create a PS2ISO folder in the dev_hdd0 hardrive. Then drag your iso in the PS2ISO folder. It worked for me.

Just bought a ps3 slim to jailbreak, turned out it was jailbroken, it had webman and multiman on there already, so i tried to do this thing, but when i put ind the usb nothing turns up anywhere when i go to multiman and to retro? Any idea why?
