    Definitely restorable I love watching people restore these old glass boats, you have a good outdrive and a motor that’s easy to find parts for. I would say you have her 80% there already!

    • @RuggedWrench
      @RuggedWrench  ปีที่แล้ว

      I appreciate the encouragement 👍 the motor I’m not worried about at all. I have worked on plenty of them. Do you know what out drive it is? Is it an alpha one gen one?

    • @frostystorm87
      @frostystorm87 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@RuggedWrench Easiest way to tell is if there is a Gear lube bottle on the motor. The Gen I had no gear lube monitor/reservoir. All Gen IIs do. Gen I skegs are straight and Gen IIs are slanted as well, the Gen IIs often don't use the zincs with trim tabs because the slant in the skeg is enough.

    I remember these Bayliner Monterey from back when they were new. These are pretty darn nice boats overall with good room, good layout and a pretty good performing hull. A bit heavy. While not one of the premium brand boats, I believe you got a whole lot of goodness for your money with these boats.
    This was built when the styles were changing to the more modern rounded and ‘European’ looking designer looking boats. I think these are better than those boats overall for actual use.

    I am going to follow these videos on this Bayliner. Want to see a proper refurbishment of a once popular affordable family boat. Not the socially acceptable acceptable real boats that really weren’t any better than this boat.

    Boats of that size don't need and or never came with a title. You may need a title for the trailer or bill of sale. Depending on your state requirements. Nice boat though ! Older liners (Bayliners) used more glass on the hull than never liners. Plus your yr boat has a much better hull design. Your boat has less dead rise than never boats, so it makes for more stability. Good luck

      @@RuggedWrench Art, I meant to tell you that Connecticut does not title boats so you won't be receiving a title for the boat you purchased, there isn't one. Maine, (where I live) is the same way. As long as you have a Bill of Sale Maryland will be able to issue you a title.

    Man, you Americans can make some nice deals on lots of different stuff... People more or less "abandoning" (400 bux is nothing) stuff like this is unheard of in most of the rest of the world. The benefits of having lots of people with the ability to buy stuff I guess. Hard to see from the video but the interior seems easy enough to fix up for just using it if you dont want something fancy, just rip out the fabric and stuff to bare wood and go from there.
    Edit: Ok, I just finishjed watching and perhaps its a bit worse than I thought... Still if you dont mind going just for utility it can be done for pretty cheap to fix it up I would think..

    The rear bulkhead with the door is structural and needs to be strong as it supports the flybridge.

    You can have a lot of fun with a boat like that. NEVER put plywood or silicone caulk on a boat! I have seen so much rotted plywood its insane. Find a place that specialises in fiberglass supplies and get honeycomb core to use instead of plywood. Its 100 times lighter and never rots. You lay fiberglass over it to make superlight panels that glass into the boat to become an integral part of the structure. Instead of caulk, use 3-M 4200 for anything you might remove later, and 5200 for stuff you want permanent for the life of the boat. Trying to remove properly applied 5200 usually rips out layers of fiberglass with it. 4200 is a good marine sealant. Silicone rubber is rapidly degraded by ultraviolet in direct sunlight and falls off. Boat windows leaking just a little drip drip drip past what looks like an excellent silicone bead is incredibly annoying when trying to sleep or when it soaks food on the table. Good luck with your project!
