Back in.late 70s, perhaps the first Jazz Musician I ever read about was Cecil Taylor. It's late 2019..I've been listening to Jazz, Avante Garde, Bop, Post Bop ,Fusion ,Acid..for close to 50 years. And I hate to admit,I still had never heard Cecil Taylor until now. 50 years, fulfilling a circle ..its all new if you've never heard it before. Of course The Ensemble was always in my consciousness, thanks to a Jazz Educator /Radio Host who ended each night at 4 in the morning with the final notes of Old Time Religion. Who was that? Who was that? We asked over candles and wine bottles in the darkness .
I used to have the original album on cassette; it's one of the few cassettes I bitterly regret losing over the years. 'Round Midnight is great, but the earlier piece on the album, called "Intro to Fifteen," is a towering monsterpiece; sort of an ancestral spirit invocation with brilliant bizarre vocals & dissonant rhythms, very occult in the finest sense of the word.
My summer camp counselors from August, 1968 - Joseph Jarman and Roscoe Mitchell!

This version is a masterpiece, a total experience.
