    This video saved me from getting rid of a really great TV. I had no idea my Toshiba unit would even have this service menu but found a manual online and with some tinkering it totally fixed my overscan issues. Thank you!

      I'm so glad! CRTs really are the best for retro gaming.

    Our RCA (aka Thomson) CRT TV has been a source of frustration for years, I use it with an XBOX360 running Media Center and it has always had serious overscan issues... was looking for a hardware solution when I came across this video. Couldn't believe it when the instructions on the linked website worked, I was in Service Mode and tweaking settings in no time. Thanks so much for this, it's enabled me to solve my display problems for good, and all it cost me was an hour or so of my time. Cheers!

      I also have an RCA (Thomson) CRT TV made in Sept. 2000 (model F19430), but none of the recommendations on tantht.blogspot.com/2011/03/television-service-menu-codes.html helped me get in the service menu. How did you get into the service menu on your RCA? Thanks

    Hey there - If you've watched this video (which was helpful by the way) but come to the conclusion that your panasonic TV does not give the option to stop overscanning - don't give up!!! I almost had, but now I've found it. Panasonic have some navigation issues with the way they display their options. here is what I did. MENU >> Picture. Then I see a bunch of options like : Viewing mode, contrast, brightness, colour, sharpness, tint, colour balance, Vivid colour and - at the bottom of the menu: "colour Remaster"... I'd tried looking into all these menus and found nothing about overscan. But, finally (groan) I realised there are little "up" and "down" arrows in the menu, and I was only looking at page1 of the options. By hitting down arrow on the remote, I then found the following additional options: Eco Mode, P-NR, 3d settings, Screen display, ADVANCED SETTINGS, lock settings and reset picture defaults. It was inside of "ADVANCED SETTINGS" that I finally found >> 16:9 Overscan On/Off setting. Holy crap - it worked!!!!
    So don't give up like I almost did - see if you can find it. Yes - I know I should have downloaded the manual, but the TV is freaken heavy and ....you get the picture. Hope this helps

    Pretty modern CRT. Those were the days when i needed a shielded screwdriver on the open back to adjust the safety region of my PHILIPS ;-)

    Devices like the XRGBmini are fine and all but there's nothing quite like a good quality CRT. I'll be holding onto my lovely 25" Panasonic as long as I can! Fortunately mine doesn't have overscan issues (maybe a teeny tiny amount left and and top but it's miniscule) because my set doesn't have the buttons on the remote that this video refers to - must be an older set and might require fiddling about with pots after taking the back off - not something I'd fancy tackling!

      Agreed. The Framemeister cannot replace the distinct scanline and grid display which these games were designed for

    Congrats, I'm genuinely happy for you that you were able to fix your overscan.... unfortunately, I have an ol' venturer plasma tv & there's no indication of how to get into its service menu. I've been trying to fix it since I bought it in 2009, but no dice lol think I'm just going to upgrade at some point. Although, I do have a 37 inch old CRT tv in my bedroom that gives some serious overscan when playing ps2 games and such I may just have to enter the service menu & fix it.

    I think 20" CRTs are about the best. Larger than that, you end up with a bulky unit that is nightmare to move around... Also, beyond that there's hardly any advantage of having a bigger picture. 13" are great too if you don't have a lot of space.

      Personally I sit on the opposite side of the room from my tv, so having a 32” is nice. Plus it’s 1080i so all my tv shows look crisp

    I have an old small Apex and I did find the codes but for some reasons, the options only allow me to fix vertical size so while my screen now has what was missing at the top and bottom, the left and right sides are being eaten up (I can only change horizontal position but not size). The only way to see them is to put "preserve aspect ratio" but then the image doesn't cover the whole so I'm playing in basically windowed mode in the tv.

      Same here, it might be a potentiometer inside, I'll check, otherwise it might actually be an issue with a coil from the research I've done, I'll let you know if I find out anything

    I just picked up a 20” Panasonic and I noticed that it’s tilted slightly. So for example where your “press start” would be is not even from the border of the bottom of the screen as it goes across. I’ve seen this many times wont flat screen trinitrons and it’s an easy fix in the menu with tilt correction but never seen it ok a curved screen. Do you k is what values I may need to tweak to fix it??

    For some reason, my tv menu lets me change the size AND position vertically, but ONLY position horizontally (no size). It is the third tv I’ve tried and they all do the same. Can’t squeeze the image horizontally, only vertically.

    My Panasonic is a very similar model to yours, but I have no remote, so I can't get to any channel higher than 68. Maybe I can change that in the ch program settings, but if not, I wonder if I can use a universal remote.

    Man I've got an issue currently with my flatscreen..Recently I got a wireless keyboard & do pretty much everything online on my TV through HDMI from my laptop now, but no matter what I try the picture doesn't fit the screen all the way there's a black border all around about 1". I was certain it did fit when I 1st started doing it, but I don't know WTH is up lol...I love having all my systems set up on it, I have an 8-way switch box now that i just press the corresponding button for each console instead of disconnecting/reconnecting =)..but I agree most of them weren't meant for HD sets & some, espec Genesis, Super NES & NES look better on CRT...Have you heard about the new HDMI modded NES tho?? Think I read it was coming soon & was supposed to be able to produce a very great quality, I'm looking forward to it & am glad I changed my mind about picking up a composite modded NES 101 right away

    • @Playongo
      @Playongo  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Stevaside Wow, HDMI NES mod? That's nuts! As for the PC hooked up to a modern TV, if you can find the native resolution of your TV and can set the PC to the same resolution, I'd expect the image to appear with no border. Not sure if that's a possibility for you or not. FYI: Speaking of mods, I was playing with my s-video modded 7800 and I think it's working for capture again. I'm able to balance the audio much better so I may do a 7800 video here sometime soon.

    • @Stevaside
      @Stevaside 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Playongo yea ill have to look into that..After trying numerous settings I read about I got frustrated & gave up ...Awesome to hear that, would still love to see more 7800 vids from you!. I now have all games except for Tank Command & Mean 18..Think I'll hold off for a while trying to pick those up tho..I debated it recently & thought NAH i'll just get my PS4 now...Just got it 2 days ago, currently taking an internet break from Wolfenstein: The New Order haha After all the hype I got Minecraft too...So far just did a little in tutorial mode, but seems I'll have some fun once I start going

      Thank you for the reply! I've long since fixed the issue though, what I found was that the remote was garbage and it didn't look like the type of remote was meant to come open to clean, I was liable to break it in two trying. So I ordered another remote of the exact same type and can enter the service menu much more reliably now, picture looks great.
