When I saw the cover on Amazon, I initially assumed that the real image wasn't yet available and that Amazon had just thrown together a generic, temporary image. Now that I realize that it's the actual cover, I'm shocked.
I love knowing that I will be able to say that I was alive and got to experience the release of a Beatles song! In that sense, I am very grateful for the 'Now and Then' project! But I feel they messed up with the cover... I mean, it really doesn't look like the cover of the Beatles' last song.
Be careful what you wish for - this was my exact feelings back in 1995 when Free As A Bird was announced - I would doubt since I purchased that CD in late 1995, that I've played it more than 10 times. The Beatles created the greatest music ever from 1962 to 1970 - everything since is just a crappy money grab - and I've got the receipts to prove it! Hope this last gasp is worthy of their legacy but not holding my breath. Sorry to be such a downer, but been through this before myself personally.
Free as a Bird is decent and I really also enjoy the video. Real Love is a nice song. The cover of the Now and Then single isn't only a terrible idea, but may well be one of the most boring sleeves ever. When I think of Lennon going to art school, marrying a girl he met at art school, then marrying a conceptual artist, Paul who spent the mod sixties Immersed in the underground art scene, to go the photographer and the general artsy take of their entire existence, I wonder how anybody involved took a look at this cover and think wow! Sore the artist is fine. But it says nothing. Why did they not put the name of the band on the single. I type this and you echo my points. It doesn't look Beatles.
I don't think it should be consider a shallow criticism considering The Beatles history with graphic design. I mean, they're the band that made Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band and Abbey Road, you'd expect a little more effort on the art of is (supposedly) going to be their last official release.
I largely agree, I would have preferred the single to include Free as a Bird and Real Love on the B-side (updated versions using the same AI to better extract John's parts because 1) they should all be on the same disc as they belong together (especially the tape version) and 2) we would be able to hear the effect the ai on the other songs to get a better idea of what it has done that couldn't be done in the 1990s). Cover definitely does not look Beatles
I was thinking the same thing. It would be cool to have the other two reworked. But who knows, maybe they tried and felt that the other parts no longer meshed as well.
Yeah that would have been great and/or I thought if not free as a bird and Real love they could've remade/enhanced watching rainbows. The quality is better than of the other 3 songs and every Beatle was on it when it was recorded. Ringo and Paul could upgrade the bass and drums on that, clear John's voice with AI and add other instruments and give it maybe a psychedelic touch. Now and then and watching rainbows would've been perfect I think.
All it did was allow them to isolate the vocals from the original demo. It’s all in the 12am doc. Nothing fake was added. The tech just cleaned up what was unusable. The press keeps saying the vocals are AI. They ain’t. Thats misunderstanding the technology. Also - Free As A Bird and Real Love (vastly less quality compositions compared to now and then) will get an equally updated deal. This is a promo for the red and blue albums.
I actually like the back cover more. I agree with what you said about it looking more Beatles-esque than the front. But then why didn’t they choose that for the front cover? That legitimately looks WAY better. Had that swapped places with the bland cold basic photo on the front, it would have felt more like a Beatle Product.
I completely agree with you with the cover art for Now and Then. I hate it. But it is what it is. And the prices, you're so right! $80 for the three LP set. $40 for two cds? It's too much but I can't wait to hear the expanded "Red" album and single. Great video like always!
The songs on the likewise ugly packaged "Hackney Diamonds" are nothing to write home about. I only liked the one song that Keith is doing the vocal on.
I completely agree on the single art. It's a total letdown, especially compared to the FAAB art. I personally didn't like the McCartney 3 art, and I'm not surprised this was by the same guy haha. The handwritten name would've been infinitely better
I would have preferred an image of the demo cassette as the cover over what we're getting. That said, I am certainly looking forward to hearing the new song.
THANK YOU for commenting on the outrageous price! I would love to get the marble or blue vinyl 45, but at $19 for a single, I feel taken advantage of. That’s just an unreasonable price. When the new Anthology songs came out in the ‘90s, they cost the same as anyone else’s singles. Remember how the Beatles used to not include their singles tracks on their albums because they didn’t want to rip off their fans?
I believe that the real reason for not putting their singles on the albums - was because in those days having a hit single climbing to the no. 1 position was the ultimate goal ! They didn't want to take the risk that young folks with a limited amount of money perhaps would drop buying the Singles and wait for it till it appeared on an album. I believe that the reason given of "not taking advantage of their fans" played a minor role here. The primary goal was to boost the sales of the 45's - and having a no. 1 HIT !
The old reason why in the UK the Beatles didn’t put singles on albums so as not to take advantage of their fans is a falsehood. In reality, their “fans” would buy the singles AND the albums both. So they were actually profit maximizing this way. It doesn’t take much thinking to get past the bs does it?
When I saw the cover art for the single, I assumed it was a temporary image put out because they didn't know what the official image was going to be. I cannot believe that is the finished product. Let's be absolutely frank; the artist has failed.
I was a mild Beatles fan, maybe saying I was an “appreciator” is a better way to put it till I saw Paul live last week and experienced what it is, I think that makes their songs exceptional! Those Beatles songs he did play live were so filled with emotion and amazing writing that even I with my mild knowledge of their work, cried like a baby a few times and I don’t count myself as an overly emotional sort, but oohhh boy he got me good. So to say I was excited when I saw this announcement was an understatement, though yes, the cover kind of lacks what I’d expect from a Beatles cover, though is it an attempt to create something akin to what they would do as a modern band? I don’t know but I sure do hope the song hits a lot harder than the cover does…
You are completely correct about the cover. I've been waiting for this release since the day I heard about it. However, I've skipped over the ads on my social media feeds because it didn't register as a Beatles product at all. Because of the cover image, I just thought it was some other band and so I just scrolled on by. It was only after seeing this video that I realised what it was I've been scrolling past these last few days. Crazy design choice.
I think it would’ve been cool to finally give us Carnival Of Light and have that as the B-Side.! The cover is a bit strange I agree, but overall, truly excited to finally hear this song.!
@@markstevenson6635 I think it’s supposedly around 12 minutes long or a little over that. Don’t know.? Maybe a 12inch single.? Just wish for something different except same old same old. I mean. I love all those songs, but how many times do certain things need to be re-released.?
Listening to demos of the song, the song sounds really dark. I can imagine John sitting in that all white room with little to no furniture other than the white piano like in the Imagine music video recording the demo there. The gray and blue tones on the cover make sense, but I agree they definitely could've done more. The back cover is more enticing than the front cover and I would prefer it to be the front cover in the theme of t he other two Threetles 7" covers. I'm excited this is getting released finally and I'll be picking up the marble blue vinyl and black vinyl to keep sealed.
Same here. When I First saw the Front cover I thought It was a dummy cover to make It more exciting for us until the final artwork will be released. I never would have expected that this is it. (I am a Graphic Designer btw.)
While I'm still going to get the blue 7 inch, and the cassette (I'm a collector, I can't help it lol) I agree with the cover art. What would have been interesting for the vinyl's artwork, is to have a picture of the actual cassette, I feel like it would have been a bit more interesting(and for the cass. cover, maybe the last pic of all of em together? idk) The cover somehow feels like it would've been a bootleg album.
I am very excited about this release, but agree with you wholeheartedly about the presentation. No disrespect to the artist or to anyone who likes the cover, but it almost looks like a placeholder cover. With so many legitimate artists and photographers within the Beatles themselves, why would they think this looked good? On the other hand, this is the group that once had a plain white cover for an album! But I too would have preferred the T-Shirt logo as the cover. A more befitting cover, in my opinion, would have been a bunch of photos in a scrapbook book or something akin to the Anthology cover, but more modern. Still, all that aside, I am looking forward to it. Not sure which I’ll get, but at those prices, I’ll put it on my holiday wish list as a collectible. I also agree It would have been nice to have the other two “last” songs on there as well. Enjoy your show!
Hello, Eric I feel the same way about the cover art, I thought at first it was a tease and the cover art would be released on the date of the album. But as you said this is what they are going with. But its all about the music in the end so now we wait......
That cover art honestly looks like something from the early 90s... which is when they would have been working on it with George. So, while I don't think it's great, it is fitting for when it was last worked on. Which is an odd thing to go for
For the first time in my collecting history, there's a Beatles product I have no desire for. Maybe it's that cover. Maybe I'm just burnt out. Maybe both. Anyways, great video, great take as always.
A cd-single version would have been welcome as well. They could have easily added a additional 2-3 tracks and made it an ep. There's plenty of songs to choose from. These could have been additional songs (in 2023 mixes) not included on the red and blue albums.
When I received the email today including the cover art I must admit I was surprised. This is so out of line with other Beatles cover art. If you line up all the Beatles albums this will stick out like a sore thumb. It might have made a nice cover for another band. The art for their very last album should have been something emphasizing this historic moment. After all, it’s now 6 decades after they got started as The Beatles. Many bands don’t know the album they just released will be their last. The Beatles know this is it. Well ok. I’m very much looking forward to hearing this song. Thank you Paul and Ringo for your hard work! ❤️ I hope you will include this song in your individual tours! ✌️
I think the fact the cover does not look like a "Beatles Product" is why it's grown on me. It reminds me of The White Album, or how Abbey Road does not have the band's name on the front. It stands on it's own, it does not feel like a "HEY REMEMBER THE WORLDS BIGGEST BAND, THE BEATLES?" type image you might find on a t-shirt at Target. The front and back are sticking with me, in a way that other more conventional mockups I saw on Reddit are not. I'm still not in love with it, but I appreciate it being an interesting choice. I do agree though the lack of it being paired with Free as a Bird and Real Love in the 12" single or on 1967-1970 is disappointing. The already have restored versions of those songs from the 1+ Bluray that never made it on to any CD.
I'm with you 100% on the cover. I am more pissed off about the track listing. We are getting so many songs that we already have remixed remastered whatever, from pepper to let it be, to revolver. Yes there's some songs on here that we don't have that have been remixed but I don't know man. I'm on a major fixed income and I just wish they would have thought about this a little more. I mean I can't wait to hear the new song also but this red and blue thing has really got me pissed off. I was sure looking forward to rubber soul. I will be getting the single but that's it. Your video was spot on. Take Care
I think anything worth releasing was put on Anthology, as far as this, I'm sure I'll hear it on youtube lol edit: the all text cover looks like it would be a good cover, for a book
@@keithmichael112 While people keep putting out for -- and let's be honest here -- what is below sub par materiel. They'll keep bleeding the "fans" for the ready's, right? The fact that they put as little effort into the packaging, is, again, endigitive of what they actually think of these fans . It is a bit shameful because they know people will keep putting out because of who they are, not the quality of the material they are buying. One can't help feeling that to them its like shooting fish in a barrel for them. The red and blue album release, again is endigative of this very sinical attitude. Which i am almost certain would not have happened if epstien was alive. I mean in a world were you can make your own play lists, these, "best of greatest" hits releases are, are at best, regressive and redundant, and there for can only be seen as what they are..... a sinical cash grab from a aydience they have little to none respect for, shameful.
Free as a Bird was based on chart sales. Now and Then is based on streams and sales. Most people in the country are going to listen, after the hype and thanks to the affection for the band, and because people follow what is 'trending'. People will stream just to have an opinion to 'share'. The song is extremely likely to make number one in the UK and the US. What most people have neglected to mention in the coverage that I have seen so far, is that Now and Then is officially a double A Side. That means that Love Me Do will be technically a.number one single too. Get it now? But I agree with the point you make about money and material. Free as A Bird and Real Love would have been a perfect double A Sided single. They chose two separate releases. That's fine. But after all the material dug from the vaults for Anthology, what ends up on one of the B sides? Christmas Time is here again! Possibly the greatest atrocity the band ever put on vinyl and I am guessing never played by anybody on that format more than twice. Once to hear it was awful, and again just t check they were not dreaming. It was almost as if they thought, this is too bad to go on Anthology, people will want to skip it, so where can we put it?. Oh, I know, chuck it on a b side. That's cool. But. When releasing your first single in 25 years, shouldn't more thought go into making the product pristine?
@@rainblaze.But nobody has to buy the records. All the new remixes are available for free. I agree the cover art is lazy. But these releases are marketed expressly for middle class men with too much money. They fund the fact the rest of the world can listen for free. Thanks suckers! I mean, no disrespect to the maker of this video but even he said he's going to buy the record even though he hates the packaging and thinks price wise it's a rip off. At least fork out the extra two dollars and buy the coloured vinyl which is in limited numbers, unlikely to be re-pressed and makes you feel you got something different. Fact is. Nobody but reviewers who get free copies are ever going to play these records. They will remain sealed on shelves as potential investments. It is a shame. It wasn't what music was meant to be. So Now and Then is art. But it is not art that is meant to be enjoyed. It came from the vaults and will end up in vaults. The cover reflects this. Some people will buy anything. I know what the Mona Lisa looks like. I don't need to own it. It, like all art now, is only a click away. The red and blue are like the official souvenirs you buy from the museum gift shop, reproductions of the original. The single, unfortunately looks like the tat you buy from the unofficial bloke who sells cheap plastic replicas of the leaning tower of pisa, oddly from a bazaar in Egypt.
I think you are spot on about the cover art being horrible I would have preferred a nice group shot from the 1968 Mad day out photo shoot that has been underutilized in Beatles stuff That being said since it’s a single cover it’s less important - the free as a bird and real love single covers were better but in the end the single covers are not really thought about in the grand scheme of things Totally stoked about the song and I don’t have a record player anymore so I’m just going for digital downloads/ streams which are cheaper 😁 Keep up the good work!
As an actual graphic designer with a degree - I actually think the cover art rocks, lol. I think it's stark and there's a gravity to it while being so understated and grave, I mean - it IS the final Beatles single. I think if they tried to be intentionally extravagant that the album cover wouldn't have as much of a staying power. I think you being disappointed feeds at least a small bit in that it's a provocative design, so in my opinion it filled its purpose. After all, this wouldn't be the first time the Beatles would have controversial reception to minimalist artwork. People reacted the same way when the White Album was out in 1968.
Very excited for the song obviously, I think Love Me Do wasn’t a bad choice (I would’ve preferred Free as a Bird and Real Love) but as a graphic designer I think I’m going to have to apply for a job at Apple because there was so much that could’ve been done with the cover. Even if they wanted it to be simple and minimal, but That image is not Beatles I still ordered a 12” and 7” 😂
perfect cover art: "Now and Then" on a brick wall on street signs with postcard-style pictures around it of the band over the years, in a style similar to the back of Abbey Road or the Anthology cover or if going minimalist, just plain white with the black handwriting like the shirt
I do agree. I can’t spend this now. I figured on asking the family for the single as a Christmas gift and getting the Red/Blues record re-releases down the line.
I agree with you 100%! It looks like somebody dropped the ball on the record artwork or just gave up and went with the easiest, fastest thing they could make. The back looks more like a front cover than the front does. Strange! Brian in Fort Worth 🎶
It took me a minute to understand why they went with "Love Me Do" original single as the b-side, but after a while it made sense...this is the last of the Beatles, on the opposite side is the first of the Beatles...Now...and Then. As for the price point, it is usurious. And the artwork should probably have matched the Free as a Bird and Real Love artwork...
I agree about the cover. The first time I saw it I thought it was a placeholder graphic because the real cover wasn't released yet. I think it would have made sense to apply the same demixing technology to Free As a Bird and Real Love. Maybe there wasn't much they could do to improve the vocal on those.
The single artwork looks like a Pickwick budget compilation album from 1978. "Now and Then" will be nothing more than a curiosity after the initial novelty, but the real interest is the new stereo mixes of the early songs on 1962-1966.
I agree about the cover artwork, which I also found underwhelming. The folk art on the back is interesting for a few moments, and then left me wanting to see something different. Maybe a photo of John at the piano, with photos of the others in a studio, Maybe it would be good to have a picture of the cassette, which you pointed out must have looked like John's demo cassette tapes. I preordered the 12", since it was only $3 more than the color 7" discs. I figured that maybe there is some more artwork on the sleeve, or some notes. We'll see.
the whole thing about this song is lackluster I think they listened the song and thought it was not worth to spend a lot of money in publicity all the artwork is ugly between the annoucement and the release, there's barely any time to build the hype and the nail in the coffin is Paul and Ringo recording the song separately. if there's no sense of "ok, gang, it's the last one. let's get together and figure this one out the best we can!", why bother? it's like they are just trying to get rid of the song and move on with their solo careers
Even before you expressed your opinion I saw the image and right away found the art very displeasing to the eye. I would have preferred a black sleeve or a plain photo of the demo cassette.
I agree with the cover, not Beatles-esque, and the price point is irritating, although, I won’t be buying any physical copies. I can’t wait to hear the song of course, but after hearing the demo a few times previously, I’ll be amazed if it becomes as good as Free As A Bird and also Real Love. With all that being said, it’s The Beatles, and I just hope we get something good
The cover of “Now and Then” looks like one of those “greatest hits” cds you find in the dollar store, (but are really re-recordings by ONE of the band members passed off as a real greatest hits cd.)
I don't mind the cover design, maybe part of it is that I've opted to get the Red and Blue 6LP box instead of the single but I had a quick flip through the singles set and personally, I don't think it stands out as being too far removed from them. Particularly when you consider the clock image on the back. I guess an image of some kind, a photo or a painting would be more interesting but if this is what they are into right now then this is what they are into. Maybe it looks a lot better in print, often things can end up looking a lot better in print. On the price issue I guess it makes sense to me, inflation has really kicked the vinyl market in the butt over the past 2 years. I remember another TH-camr getting quite annoyed with me when I disagreed with him and said that the George Harrison box set wasn't a rip-off and that was in 2017. Who knows how much that could be if it came out now. Everything seems to be at least double what it would have been when I started collecting records in 2015 - 16 and even back then I read comments from collectors complaining about the high prices online. On the bright side, it's only a single so you can always listen to it on streaming services to make sure you even want the thing before you buy it.
|'m not interested in getting the single for the reasons you say - it doesn't seem enough for £18. However, I am going to pick up the remixed and expanded red and blue albums though. Just because for £44 I want to get all those earlier tracks remixed. Plus you're getting the contents of the single too.
I agree with your opinion on the cover. If that is the final cover. Maybe it isn't? But yes, it reminds me of a 1980s HBO movie ad, if you remember the screen GUI that HBO used to promote their films.
I agree that they should have put "Free As A Bird." "Real Love," and "Now And Then" on an EP.. I also don't know why this wasn't released additionally as s CD single or digital download. They're releasing it on cassette and not CD or digital download ???
$75 for the Red and Blue albums is also ridiculous. ($150 for the box set) Plus $15 for shipping!!! I am usually pre-ordering these new mixes from the get-go but I will wait for the Amazon discount to appear (as has been the case with all the other releases) and forgo the colored vinyl as it's only available from the official store.
Cover art is an afterthought because they're assuming that everybody will be streaming it. Or maybe I'm wrong and a lot of effort went into that artwork but that was they best they could do with the limited crayons in the box.
I think they should have remixed the Free as A Bird and Real Love songs and added them to the single and have a 4 song ep adding Love Me Do that would have made more sense. But I don't understand the price for a single. I haven't bought a single for years so don't know what the going rate is nowadays but it seems a lot for 2 songs especially if one of the songs is an old one. I think it was a missed opportunity not to have new mixes of Free As A Bird and Real Love and would have made more sense these 2 songs being added to the new song than Love Me Do as they were recorded at the same time.
Yes I had some of the same reactions. Also how did you feel about the red and blue album’s getting expanded. I feel there are over priced as well. But that artwork isn’t what I would have wanted. And also I agree about free as a bird and real love. They definitely could have used the demix treatment too. Because there’s a lot of tape noise in those songs.
I think the 2015 Giles Martin mixes of "Free as a Bird" and "Real Love" made for the _1+_ compilation are better, but I'm still disappointed they haven't gotten the de-mix treatment.
Yeah, a remixed "Free As A Bird" and "Real Love" would have been a great inclusion. Also "Now And Then" will be the last song on the new Blue remixed + extra tracks album coming out November 10th. While "Love Me Do (2023 remix)" will be the 1st song of the Red remixed + extra tracks album.
Agree on the Now and Then front cover - seems strange. The rear cover however I think is intriguing - is there significance in the numbers etc. you see? Beatles usually good at evoking conspiracy theories. I also agree the prices for singles seem a bit high... I did order the cassette and the 7 inch blue / white marble vinyl however and am looking forward to the release.
McCartney must have exerted his authority because of his like for that artist. Shame he wasn't voted out. Considering the historical significants, being their last single, I'm saddened by the lack of care shown here.
Shame they don't offer the new song as a CD single like the previous Anthology songs. Also could have included a rarity on the B-side instead of Love Me Do
You're so right. That's not a Beatles Cover and price is just a joke. Not worth. A great chance missed to close the Beatles cataloge in the way this legacy deserves
Some guy on Twitter said that it's a common trick in the music industry to put out a single with fake cover during the pre-sale period to throw people off. I've never heard of that being done, but fingers crossed that he's right
I think a picture of that cap John would wear in 1964/5 with the song title in his hand writing would've been a good cover. Or maybe the band's iconic instruments (Ringo's bass drum head, Paul's Hofner bass, John's Rickenbaker and George's 12 string Rickenbacker) either pieced from period photos or modern photos.
The 12" had so many opportunities. Add FaaB and RL. Add John's original demos or other material like was done for the previous boxes. What's the point in issuing the exact same thing in two diameters other than $$$ or "because we can"?
I too was let down by cover, if not only for the reason that they have the most iconic album covers from butcher to rubber soul revolver pepper mag mystery white album for christ sakes it's white to abbey road anthology. Nuff said just could have been more. What puzzles me is in the red and blue re releases they add a 3rd vinyl and more songs to both album and cd with now and then on blue but no free as a bird or real love, perhaps to add all 3 to anthology re release in future or re release of singles box later in time to include it. The Beatles Cash machine or ATM goes on and on. Not to mention still need Giles mixes of first albums up to rubber soul and a magical mystery tour something or another would be nice. Pun intended Baby, they are rich man. Enjoy the music everyone, been waiting a long time for this. DAVE IN N.C.
Totally feel the same way. Love your videos by the way. You’re absolutely right. This is the final Beatles song ever released and the cover does not match the feeling of that. I also immediately thought of the Anthology and how brilliant the covers were. Art is art, but this feels very bland compared to everything that’s come before. Free As A Bird and Real Love not being included is another problem but I have a feeling they’ll all be together on the Anthology Super Deluxe eventually.✌🏻

That cover looks like something George Harrison would have liked in the 70s.
At first I thought it was a placeholder until the real cover was available. 😢
I completely agree with you with the cover art for Now and Then. I hate it. But it is what it is. And the prices, you're so right! $80 for the three LP set. $40 for two cds? It's too much but I can't wait to hear the expanded "Red" album and single. Great video like always!
Who would've thought that in 2023 we would be getting a new Rolling Stones album, and a new Beatles song?!
New song? Sure?
The songs on the likewise ugly packaged "Hackney Diamonds" are nothing to write home about.
I only liked the one song that Keith is doing the vocal on.
I completely agree on the single art. It's a total letdown, especially compared to the FAAB art. I personally didn't like the McCartney 3 art, and I'm not surprised this was by the same guy haha. The handwritten name would've been infinitely better
I always thought Johns early single cover art from apple is just classic, so I thought it has to be minimalistic. At least they‘ve done that.
I think this should have been an EP of Free as a Bird, Real Love, and Grow Old With Me (the version with George Martin’s strings).
YES. well have to go to abbey road stuff with this song and those all together in an ep of the final beatles songs. With the 70s vibe
I believe that the real reason for not putting their singles on the albums - was because in those days
having a hit single climbing to the no. 1 position was the ultimate goal !
They didn't want to take the risk that young folks with a limited amount of money perhaps would drop
buying the Singles and wait for it till it appeared on an album.
Don't forget about shipping on some websites the shipping is 11 bucks that's in total 30 dollars for 2 songs. Ouch!
I don’t know but I sure do hope the song hits a lot harder than the cover does…
where did Paul play? I'm jealous.....glad it was fun

I’m with you on the cover. It actually stopped me from investing in the vinyl.
I dig the cover art, but I'd like more than text with a blue background like you said.
I think it would’ve been cool to finally give us Carnival Of Light and have that as the B-Side.! The cover is a bit strange I agree, but overall, truly excited to finally hear this song.!
Isn't Carnival of Light rather long for a 7" 45 RPM record?
@@markstevenson6635 I think it’s supposedly around 12 minutes long or a little over that. Don’t know.? Maybe a 12inch single.? Just wish for something different except same old same old. I mean. I love all those songs, but how many times do certain things need to be re-released.?
it could have gone on the 12" then. Give us something.
According to McCartney, the very last thing that John Lennon said to him was :
-- "Think of me Now And Then" !
Your not the only one. I was thinking the exact same thing about the cover art work.
Looking at that T-shirt I would say "I can't wait to hear the new song 'New & Them'."
Already pre-ordered it! I am very excited to hear a 'new' song by the greatest band of all time!😎
Must consoom
@@gonzalomgt exactly lol
Maybe they will recall this cover and paste over an alternate cover creating a collectors item?😂
There should be an International competition on creating the ultimate packaging
of the very last Beatles single !
I'm sad there was no CD single. I have the other two on CD and I'm sad we're not able to complete the trio
Yet another idiot desission from the Apple Corp. Organisation !
You can get it on cd! I've pre ordered my copy on cd
They need to do this to treat Real Love and Free as a Bird. Great songs that I’d love to see John’s voice pulled out of the tape.
I hope they do. We need a proper EP.
I saw the title of the mail and got pretty excited. But then saw the artwork and the high price point and now am less excited to pick it up.
Yes !
And again this was a missed opportunity.
I agree with everything you said about the cover also I would’ve liked free as a bird and real love to be included with now and then
The cover of Now and Then looks like the thumbnail for some shovelware album on Spotify to me
I totally agree about that front cover. It's giving me vibes off some minimalist 80s indie band.
Take Care
I think anything worth releasing was put on Anthology, as far as this, I'm sure I'll hear it on youtube lol
edit: the all text cover looks like it would be a good cover, for a book
@@keithmichael112
While people keep putting out for -- and let's be honest here -- what is below sub par materiel.
@@rainblaze.* indicative*..*cynical * ...* audience *.
As a professional graphics artist for over 35 years, the cover blows big time, as well as the price, but I really look forward to hearing it.
I think you are spot on about the cover art being horrible I would have preferred a nice group shot from the 1968 Mad day out photo shoot that has been underutilized in Beatles stuff
That being said since it’s a single cover it’s less important - the free as a bird and real love single covers were better but in the end the single covers are not really thought about in the grand scheme of things
Totally stoked about the song and I don’t have a record player anymore so I’m just going for digital downloads/ streams which are cheaper 😁
Keep up the good work!
🤓
Very excited for the song obviously, I think Love Me Do wasn’t a bad choice (I would’ve preferred Free as a Bird and Real Love)
but as a graphic designer I think I’m going to have to apply for a job at Apple because there was so much that could’ve been done with the cover. Even if they wanted it to be simple and minimal, but That image is not Beatles
I still ordered a 12” and 7” 😂
A diversity hire was tasked with making the cover. I can almost guarantee it.
Yeah I assumed that it was temporary artwork, and that free bird and real love would be included
The Now and Then single cover looks like Windows95 picture art
Couldn't agree more about the cover
perfect cover art: "Now and Then" on a brick wall on street signs with postcard-style pictures around it of the band over the years, in a style similar to the back of Abbey Road or the Anthology cover
or if going minimalist, just plain white with the black handwriting like the shirt
What they SHOULD have done is release an EP and include Free As A Bird and Real Love but remixed with the same new A.I. technology.
I do agree. I can’t spend this now. I figured on asking the family for the single as a Christmas gift and getting the Red/Blues record re-releases down the line.
I agree on all points. I would have gone for the CD single if there was one. The vinyl single is too much money for one song according to me.
They should have released the long awaited Carnival of Light with Now and Then.
Carnival of Light is not a Beatles recording. It was a solo McCartney recording.
@@Withcare11So what?
I agree with you 100%! It looks like somebody dropped the ball on the record artwork or just gave up and went with the easiest, fastest thing they could make. The back looks more like a front cover than the front does. Strange!
Brian in Fort Worth 🎶
Absolutely agree on the cover. First thing I thought is it looks like a Seen on TV product or a Ronco records product.
I agree on the front cover. It looks like it was self-made by/for a local bar band on a budget. The price, too. Hard to justify $20 for a song.
We'll see.
You hit the nail on the head my friend......A Limey in Portland, Oregon enjoying your content....by the way ....everything here is so BIG....!
I agree.
It would have been nice to try to clean up Free as a Bird and Real Love and have it as an EP. At least we can stream it when it comes out.
the whole thing about this song is lackluster
I think they listened the song and thought it was not worth to spend a lot of money in publicity
all the artwork is ugly
between the annoucement and the release, there's barely any time to build the hype
and the nail in the coffin is Paul and Ringo recording the song separately. if there's no sense of "ok, gang, it's the last one. let's get together and figure this one out the best we can!", why bother? it's like they are just trying to get rid of the song and move on with their solo careers
I don’t give a fack about the cover, I’m excited for the music
I have pre-ordered the marble version but I agree about the cover. The image of the cassette would have been better.
Exactly, given the state of the demo this seems to be keeping with the tone of it. In short: I am prepared to do a lot of crying
|'m not interested in getting the single for the reasons you say - it doesn't seem enough for £18. However, I am going to pick up the remixed and expanded red and blue albums though. Just because for £44 I want to get all those earlier tracks remixed. Plus you're getting the contents of the single too.
Love this channel.
I fully agree on the cover. It looks like i could have created it with some standard computer paint program functionality in less than an hour.
I agree with your opinion on the cover. If that is the final cover. Maybe it isn't? But yes, it reminds me of a 1980s HBO movie ad, if you remember the screen GUI that HBO used to promote their films.
I think it should have even be more minimalistic. Like early John apple singles. Big black fonts, on a white surface.
Man vinyl rewind W right here
vinyl cost are insane right now. It really doesn't make sense to make 7 inches right now unless you charge almost 20 dollars.
The front cover of single took me back as well 😅
You are absolutely right.
I agree that they should have put "Free As A Bird." "Real Love," and "Now And Then" on an EP.. I also don't know why this wasn't released additionally as s CD single or digital download. They're releasing it on cassette and not CD or digital download ???
The cassette has GOT to GO!
Your bemusement and frustration about the pic sleeve art is shared by many including me
Cover art is an afterthought because they're assuming that everybody will be streaming it.
Good points both positive & negative...thanks for your insight! Good to see you! Thanks! :)
Totally Agree with you!!!!
❤ that emoji would be even better.
Right with you there about "Beatles tax", pricing & the cover concept...
Also could have included a rarity on the B-side instead of Love Me Do
agreed. Watching rainbows or something would have been nice
Or an out of tune version of Besame Mucho in Get Back
You're so right. That's not a Beatles Cover and price is just a joke. Not worth. A great chance missed to close the Beatles cataloge in the way this legacy deserves
Some guy on Twitter said that it's a common trick in the music industry to put out a single with fake cover during the pre-sale period to throw people off. I've never heard of that being done, but fingers crossed that he's right
I Totally agree. Word for word.
Also, thoughts on the new release of the Red and Blue albums that were announced today?
I think a picture of that cap John would wear in 1964/5 with the song title in his hand writing would've been a good cover. Or maybe the band's iconic instruments (Ringo's bass drum head, Paul's Hofner bass, John's Rickenbaker and George's 12 string Rickenbacker) either pieced from period photos or modern photos.
The 12" had so many opportunities. Add FaaB and RL. Add John's original demos or other material like was done for the previous boxes. What's the point in issuing the exact same thing in two diameters other than $$$ or "because we can"?
Totally agree with comments re the cover art
Woah! This appeared in my recommended before I got the notification the video was uploaded! Wow!
