  • This is the entry swimming test you have to pass if you want to become a lifeguard at Pirbadet indoor water park in Trondheim, Norway.
    It is not the swimming test you have to do after training, but what you have to be able to do to apply for a job.

    Even if you're not going to become a lifeguard it's a life-saving skill to have (Not to mention it's also so much fun!). I learned how to swim a couple of months ago and I can confidently dive down to 12 feet and retrieve items at the bottom of the pool. Get comfortable in the deep end people because it might save your life someday.

      @muhammadtanko9234 Be comfortable in the water. Don't tense up and relax. Learn to tread water (Have someone with you or take swimming lessons the first few times) and simply practice daily. The more you do it the better you'll get at it. As for diving down, there are plenty of videos about duck diving. It's pretty simple. Hold your breath, bring your knees to your chest and point your head at the bottom of the pool. Once you're fully submerged, do a couple of breaststroke kicks and you're already at the bottom. Good luck 👍🏾

    I did pass the test in 1997 in the UK, the swimming ability was the easy part. Remembering all the first aid was more difficult. It was a fun job.

      I'm a firemedic since 2009 and got my lifeguard back in 2016- it was an absolute blast! And I recommend to anyone wanting to go for it, just be sure to get in training about a month prior to (I did mine with a little more than a week to get in shape, but it was doable in my circumstances) the hardest part was the qualifying swim before the weighted dive tests. (The medical portion was easy for me, but I have a qualification much higher already) it does take some studying but it's totally worth it! If you're considering, just do it...set goals and achieve them! You can do it!

      What do you mean? It's easy to equalise without needing to squeeze your nose. Plus at that depth she probably didn't even need to equalise. I know when I dive to the bottom of a 5 metre pool, I don't need to equalise.

    • @piiinkDeluxe

      @@thepsychologist8159 it is very individual to each person at what point you feel the need to equalize. But you're right it's possible without hands. I prefer it that way because i can use my hand this way.

    • @thepsychologist8159
      @thepsychologist8159 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@piiinkDeluxe One trick I found that works for me is, just as I'm going down I turn my head to either side allowing water to go into my ears. This seems to minimise the pressure as I go deeper. Oddly enough, I started doing this after watching a documentary about the Titanic sinking and air pockets - there were explosive noises heard when the second half went down because no water had entered it before sinking (as opposed to the first half which was already flooded), hence the air was exploding when it went down. That same principle seems to work when I 'flood' my ears before descending.

    • @piiinkDeluxe
      @piiinkDeluxe 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@thepsychologist8159 that's interesting! Does it hurt your ears? I think water in the ears often feels rather unpleasant.

      @@piiinkDeluxe No, it doesn't hurt my ears. Initially it feels a bit weird with water rushing into my ear canal, but I got used to it. My theory is, water is going to enter the ear canal anyway, so I might as well speed up the process.

      We simulate rescuing submerged victims without goggles because in a real emergency, you wouldn't have time to find a set of goggles and put them on if they're already unconscious. If you've never opened your eyes underwater, it would be uncomfortable at first and your vision will be blurry, but you can still see enough to find your victim and get them to the surface.
