I envy the little traffic you seem to encounter and the relatively flat terrain. I'm in Northern VA when the traffic is terrible and lots of hills. As a result I pretty much ride the same route over and over... which can get pretty boring. Loading my bike on a rack and driving for a change of scenery is such a hassle... I've done it but it substracts from the fun. Keep up the vids.
FWIW, riding on the sidewalk is legal in Virginia, you can use that to get you past a busy road and on to a relatively lightly trafficked neighborhood road if you have other neighhoods nearby.
I'm glad we moved from Hyattsville, or else, at 71, I'd probably not have gotten an etrike. It's much quieter in the area of Pasadena MD where we are now.
I ride the same area 95% of the time. I don't get bored, and it's an advantage for me. I know where to go, and how far from home I am at any point. Makes judging battery life and the time I have left to ride really easy. I ride several different routes, all in the same general area. I pick routes based on wind direction and the distance I want to ride.
Hi Russ - My solution to mixing up the routes is to get a bike rack and drive to new trails or areas that are favorable to cycling. Rail trails are awesome. You can research an area ahead of time to get an idea of what to expect regarding condition, hazards, and areas of interest. Every now and then i go off road on mountain bike trails which adds nice variety. As always Russ thank you for your content.
I ride the same areas most of the time. Boring, but safe and easier than packing it up. I just need to remind myself that at least I'm riding. I've thought about taking the bike to Busse Woods sometime. I ride the Prarie Trail occasionally. Still, I need to pack up the bike. It's cool that Mooncool is sending the trike so quickly. I hope she enjoys it. Thanks for the ride.
PS. I learned some things from your battery talk. Thanks. I think the postal delivery man was saying it Get it. I think he was impressed with your speed.
Hi Russ, I really enjoy you channel. I live in a rather small town (population 13,000) and I tend to ride around the whole town, just taking different routes each time. Being a small town, we have few bike lanes and even less places to lock our bikes to so I always plan for that. I recently rode to our local Walmart which is obviously in a busy area. I made it there and home safely but it is not a ride for the faint of heart.

Agreed. I think many of the local officers know me, at least they know me when I'm riding. Big guy, yellow vest, rides different ebikes... hard to not to notice me. But if I ever get in a crash, they will know they are helping out the guy who always waves to them.

Hey Russ, I ride much the same or similar route each time never bored. Neighborhood streets mostly, a country road on cruise control and some major streets with bike lanes. I get into a Nirvana zone listening to contemporary jazz on a nice bluetooth speaker going 25 mph with water breaks at a large neighborhood park taking in the scenes and enjoying life. Just received my Wired Crusier+ and assembling on Thursday. Planning on extending my routes with the dual batteries. Hoping to see your featured Wired video very soon!
Would be a nice feature if E-bike manufacturers added a battery storage feature to their battery chargers, so you can choose it to charge to storage capacity, or full capacity like some sort of switch to allow that option would be cool.
Some chargers have that feature to allow for less than full charge. But really the easiest is to store a bike after a ride (but not full ride until the battery is dead). Really lithium batteries store well between ~30-80%, the real concern is to let them sit for long periods at full charge or fully depleted. Outside those extremes the batteries will age normally
Luckily I live near a bike path from which I can access many other routes. I’m in Vancouver Canada and they have bike lanes everywhere. Being retired I normally ride 20 to 30 miles depending on weather. Everyday is a good day if you’re out for a ride. My latest model is a blue RadPower Radster Road (reg) size. Love this bike, lots of range and torque. Really enjoy your videos, thanks for sharing.
The mailman’s tone of voice was friendly, so I think he liked the bike, can’t hear him too well. I think you got it right. Anyway, I’m looking forward to seeing the trike review. Weird question, I noticed a lot of people park their cars at the very end of the driveway, blocking the sidewalk. If you were walking down the street, you would have to walk in the street to get by. Is that common practice there? And why? You can’t obstruct pedestrian sidewalks….ya think 🤔
I really enjoyed this video. You talked about a lot of things you had not before or it had been a while. Some time ago you told me what you used for a recorder, but what I would like to see is the whole set up and how you use everything together. I am at the point of my riding now to be comfortable recording. Do you ever think of getting a 360 camera? I thought the mail man was complimenting you. I am 70 and I load our (2) Lectric XPeaks onto a Hollywood rack, mine is high step. I put front tire in rack and then lift the rear up and over to the back slot, then easily move front tire to corresponding holder. I am by no means strong, but thats the best way I have seen it works well for me. of course you do have to have the car and rack available lol Keep up the good videos
Mobility matters. Bicycles matter. Electric busses matter. Electric trains matter. Safe protected bike and bus lanes are necessary for efficient transport. Children should be able to ride bicycles or take a bus to school safely. Cities need to provide multiple options for transportation. Less cars, more buses, more bicycles. Staying active is key. There is a climate crisis. We need to make walking, cycling, using escooters and taking a bus easier and the default option for most people. Ebikes are brinigng many older adults back to cycling and the benefits of exercise.
I ride lots of different places, but mostly within a 10 mile radius of my house. 10 miles in all directions is a pretty big area. I’ve gotten to know lots of other neighborhoods near me. Since I run errands also, the preponderance of my rides are similar areas, but I do also wander around some.
I remember the time I thought I heard the intercom being left on in my classroom. It was after school and I figured the office person had just left it on. The janitor came in to my room and when he bent over to empty my trash can next to my desk, I mentioned to him how annoying it was that they left the intercom on. He said "What intercom?" I said, "You can't hear that?" To which he replied, 'no, not at all.' As it turns out, it was the beginning of my 24/7 tinnitus. That was about 10 years ago, and the tinnitus is still going strong. My husband's tinnitus sounds like cicadas. I guess it's a part of old age. Not saying that your cicadas mean you have tinnitus. I certainly hope you don't. But it brought back the memory for me.
We heard cicadas in our camping trip. But interestingly they only got noisy at night. Oh and yes, I just mowed my lawn yesterday after maybe a month of not mowing it. The heat of summer slowed it down.
Most of these late-bloomer cicadas aren't quite as loud as those 17 year variety. There were some of those that were deafening loud! And yes, some of these only make noise at night while others do it all day long.
Save money on transportation and get healthy exercise. Ride a bicycle to school, work or for fun. Cities need to do more to encourage people to ride bicycles. Safe protected bike lanes and trails are needed so adults and children can ride safely. Speak up for bicycles in your community. Bicycles make life and cities better. Ask your local transportation planner and elected officials to support more protected bike lanes and trails. Children should be riding a bicycle to school and not be driven in a minivan. E-bikes are bringing many older adults back to cycling.
I ride different bike paths because the traffic around my home is too dangerous, the side streets only take me so far, sooner or later you have to cross Blanding Blvd, (SR-21). No respect for the poor old bike rider, you have a old fashioned neighborhood with wide roads to ride, nice.
I go to the same place when I ride and it is BORING to the point, I don't even want to ride any longer, besides it's full of spandex dudes an they always give me the same dirty looks.
You have to pass through certain areas just to get to others. While I wait a little before turning on my camera, I always pass through the same basic streets to get anywhere. I never head north since pretty much all of the roads in that direction are heavily traveled by cars and that limits me. I wish I could find a way to get to those other areas just for some variety!
My ebikes are given to me by the manufacturers for review of the products. The one that I am riding here is the Freedare "Eden".... shareasale.com/r.cfm?b=2420787&u=3238576&m=146383&urllink=&afftrack=

Yeah, I don’t know why they do that. They are not allowed to block sidewalks here.
