I love Ruby Wax- she's a brilliant interviewer and also great at comedy. WOW- I just did not realise her harsh upbringing. What an interesting woman. OMG Her childhood is so sad, I don't know how she got through it, this is one of the most tragic stories I have ever listened to, it's really touched a nerve.
I was aware of Ruby, but didn't know a lot about her. I love her take on mental illness, understanding the complexities of the subject, yet showing that those of us with mental illness can have a sense of humor. We use humor to deal with our disorder. I loved the part when she asked which is worse, clinical depression and cancer, one makes you want to live and the other makes you want to die. I have been diagnosed as bipolar and was prescribed many medications and felt exactly the same. Now I take nothing, using great caution, I've been able to manage. I love laughing, this video made me hopeful.
This is GREAT television...the way it was decades back. It is tragic and hilarious at the same time. Ruby is a natural, gifted comic and public speaker. Love her!!!
Having just recently watched Ruby's story on Who do you think you are, I can see where she's coming from. Such a tragic story. God bless you Ruby and your family.
What an absolutely beautiful chemistry there is going on here ❤️ His solid, patient, fatherly presence is keeping her grounded and safe. The tears in her eyes at the end when he took her hand brought tears to my eyes. Will any of the young men of today become such figures in the future? I truly hope so.
Gay Byrne the interviewer here was host of the Irish talk show "The Late Late Show" from 1962-1999, plus he began his career on Granada Television in Manchester as a presenter in the late 1950s, so he has a vast amount of experience. He is the world's longest running talk show host, beating Johnny Carson and Letterman in America. 37 years.
She did a documentary years ago about her parents and showed us their apartment and everything was covered in plastic so that it wouldn't get dirty 😂😂😂
I love ruby. I can listen to her all day. She not only talented and funny, and attractive. She is very intelligent. When I listen to her talk about mental illness. I feel not so alone. She is comforting to me. That may sound silly to some.
God was never mentioned… maybe when I was swearing… I love this woman. She looks so natural, and yet there’s a lot going on in her head. So intelligent and full of energy she did history in tv
rah62phx He died in 2019.He was a legend in irish broadcasting his show the late late show is the longest running chat show in the world .He retired from that show in 1999 but he was on it for 30 years.
Gay Byrne was the best interviewer of Women Ive ever seen.( Except for his awful mistakes with Annie Murphy, Bishop Caseys girlfriend/mother of the Bishops son on The Late Late Show) but 1 snafu in 37 years is not bad. Here Gay had to ask 3 standard God related questions in a relatively free ranging encounter to act as a comparator between interviewees in this series called The meaning of Life"
I share the same views on religion as wax except on astrology, the reason I belive is that we are made of water. Water changes with the position of the planet and the moon , just like the tide of the oceans our chemical make must also shift with different gravitational pulls , I also belive as we are formed in the womb at different times of the year, different seasons different environment and different places on the planet would also make us different. A mother pregnant in the summer will eat differently might wear more clothing might be exposed to different sounds , and different light . Those elements are the first building blocks of our development, making us different people .if the moon alone influences the chemical reaction of our bodies I find it very possible that our other neighboring planets might influence our chemistry/ behavior.
To Radiofones - In your description comment about all of her shows having fake laughter, this is 100% inaccurate. Most of Ruby's shows were made by the BBC, the BBC do not use 'fake' laughter tracks, if the show is not in a studio, it is shown to an audience, recorded & whatever happens then is what you can hear. In her series of major celeb interviews outside of the studio, she is even shown screening the video to an audience in a theatre, it's part of the shows structure & where the audience sound is generated. It is actually very rare for UK shows to have any type of 'canned' laughter, this is an American practise & thoroughly frowned upon by UK production since TV began.
You have an axe to grind. It's like an anti-semitic embodiment of Ruby Wax's joke about wishing all the others with success would die, like Ruby Wax described doing when looking at those pictured in magazines. She sure didn't have privilege. She is more of a survivor. Did you even listen to her?
When you don’t believe in god it puts so much pressure on yourself to work it all out to know to understand, when you can put your trust in god it releases all that, it not always possible but keep trying it’s worth it

What talk show is this
The meaning of life,
His interview with Stephen Fry is a killer!!!
I can hear the pain in your voice. Does not matter how often you tell your story but can see and hear it’s so painful for you.
well gay ur there now let us no
It sure helps to be jewish in this industry . had she been Muslim or even catholic working class Brit , she would NEVER be where she ended today .

@@Ma_Ba Oh please !
Muslims might get somewhere in showbiz if they lightened up a bit.
