So I’ve been playing about with mine for the last few weeks. Cost me £46 incl postage which is $61 apparently. Once you adjust the audio a little with the graphic it sounds excellent imo. 82 DAB stations locally here and the technical info you can display for DAB is very useful and interesting for an anorak like me. The internet radio works brilliantly right down the garden. All in all a fantastic little radio for the price
Thanks for going through the manual and pausing briefly on each page. That is REALLY helpful. It lets us freeze-frame each page and read the manual at our own speed. Pages 29-30 are what convinced me to buy this radio: the ability to manually add your Internet Radio channels, instead of having to go through a service. I'm sure Skytunes is fine, but Internet Radio content is constantly changing, so I'm sure their catalog is incomplete and their criteria for choosing channels is unknown.

Tough for me to justify an internet radio. I’m using an older iPhone I upgraded from to listen to radio stations at bedtime. Being thin as it is means it lays beside me in bed and I listen on earphones. Local FM music, distant sports teams and any other shows come in clear and sound very nice.

I bought a retekess v115 radio after watching your review and found listening with headphones that it was rather disappointing. However, I have a good pair of sony Bluetooth headphones and have a Bluetooth transmitter and when I used that the sound was greatly improved plus I could walk around without any connected wired headphones. My Bluetooth adapter is made by Taotronics and is available on Amazon for about $30 if you are interested. I also tried the adapter on my PL110 but found it caused interference but on the V115 i5 is perfect.
I have the WR-230S Internet Clock Radio. Is a lot larger, 2 speaker, wood cabinet. I love it and it sounds great for the size price and usage. However, I understand the database used by ocean is not very good and is not very user friendly compared to some other brands. But I really don't have any complaints after a bit of a learning curve. It isn't like you are seeing up new stations very often. I find the screen can be difficult to read as it is small and difficult to view off angle. that would be less important in the portable radio as opposed to a bigger tabletop model.
Alright, you've completely convinced me that I need one of these in my life. I'm going to be ordering a refurbished one. How's it been holding up for you in the long run? Any problems, quirks, or otherwise that I should know ahead of time?
If you don't need dab I would pick up the new WR-18, I've been using it a lot, and love it. This one was ok, had issues with WiFi connectivity. It may be patched, it has been awhile since it had an update.
@@todderbert Okay, perfect. Stuff like that's exactly what I need to know. Thank you! You've got the newer one, and you haven't done a review of it yet? For shame! 😉😂
Good review.Thanks. Seems these radios are getting a bit more responsive in the userinterface. About time. The casing and buttons of this one needs a much better quality.
I've had mine a while now. And use it every day. It has a adequate wifi range. But it will drop off at certain distances. Its often falls backwards due to being so slim and antenna weight . Minor design flaw. All in all great radio!👍
Love your channel and videos. Makes me wonder what’s happening with the FM or MW. Usually radios like this aren’t imported because of the DAB/DRM bands aren’t available in the Western Hemisphere countries. This is the first time I’ve heard of a radio to buy here in the USA that has DAB, even if it’s a secondary consideration. 🤔 I have searched for a drm type radio but they aren’t available in the Western Hemisphere.
Yes definitely Wi-Fi and DAB Plus wireless. Be nice to have short wave . The makita work radios Singh to have a lot of features. It's nice to see small affordable options
Hey been watching your videos for a long time. I'm a ham radio operator out of Wonder lake IL. I have had the radio bug since I was 16 years old, Im 53 now. You do a real good job with your reviews. Will purchase this for my first internet radio. I will be torn to have such a luxury item that wont have the static and pops we get with the ol dx. I have some high end stuff here but there is nothing like a good ol portable rig. One question I have the tecsun pl-660 and its ok on mw and am. But my little eton traveler dominates it on those modes. The 660 dominates sw and ssb. Looking at the eton executive as the fix all to merge all of those togather. Wondering what you think about that. Thank you for keeping the hobby alive. KB9MVW...CHUCK
The Eton Elite Executive is a solid choice. You will notice that it takes a little longer tuning in SSB mode because of it's DSP. But overall it is a very sensitive receiver. FM and AIR are also great on mine. I own two of them :)
If you don't need another FM radio and it stays mainly around the Home, check out the WR-210N I recently reviewed: th-cam.com/video/K1YsuNMmZfU/w-d-xo.html
Greetings from Panama, MY QUESTION IS ... CAN YOU MANUALLY ADD MORE INTERNET STATIONS? OR CAN YOU ONLY HEAR THOSE THAT COME PRE-INTALED FROM THE FACTORY?
its good except for sound quality which is so-so. wifi sensitivity is just ACCEPTABLE. customer service was pretty much the best part, which was EXCELLENT. the FM RDS was broken, so they released an update just for my model and it was fixed!!
I just ordered this radio yesterday!! Tonight I heard that Reciva an internet aggregator is shutting down on the first of January 2021. Is this going to affect the O D WR-23D?? Will it still work??
I can't' seem to find this radio in the WR-23D with DAB. There is a 23F that does not include DAB but when I visit Europe, I want the DAB. More is always better but where can I buy this?
If the battery ever went out on these Ocean radios you could conceivably just power it from a small battery pack with a short cord , I would assume. Keeps it semi portable.
Hello. I like the radio, can't wait to try the oldies music. I'm kinda new to the radio world. ( I've never had a WiFi radio) but was wondering, I currently stream internet music through my phone, but would I still have to stream from my phone on bluetooth to get internet music on this radio? Or does it pick up its own stations only, like slacker or I heart, etc. I didn't see anything on this video.Thanks. Enjoyed the video.
@@todderbert I'm confused. If you don't have internet at home, and you don't have a smart phone or Hotspot. does this radio still pick up internet stations?
@@billmcgovern2290 You would need an access point of some kind to use the WiFi feature. If you do not have access to the internet the radio can still be used on FM, DAB and DAB+.
I like your review here, but nothing on DAB+. I understand that it's not available in your area, but do you know know whether it uses the Aac system that has been used for the past 11 years in Australia, or the mp2 system used in the UK? They are not interchangeable. I haven't been able to find out this info elsewhere.
Hi Ocean Digital. Thanks for your speedy reply. I know it picks up DAB+, however there are different standards in transmitting and receiving DAB transmissions. The UK uses mp2, while here in Australia, aac is used (and is also less lossy). The two systems are not interchangeable; even antenna length is different for both transmision standards. I know, because (unfortunately), I've bought an English one which doesn't work!
I have a SONY DAB which has a timer alarm which can come on with Radio. Only works with radio if its plugged in and Radio Caroline is poor reception in my area. Does this have that radio come on function, thanks. Sounds lovely btw.
I only saw this video after I ordered the radio from Amazon France. I expect the Ocean Digital WR-23D to be delivered after this weekend. I am very curious if there is something more (functions) than with the previous devices that I own. According to the data on Amazon France, the WR-23D is said to have alarm clocks, but I'm afraid it doesn't and it remains limited to the snooze function. My fears are motivated because I also find nothing in the manual, which I downloaded online from the official Ocean Digital site, about the settings of an alarm clock. Now I have to wait and see if the equalizer also works with FM and DAB + reception and not only with internet radio, as with my other receivers I own.
Hi, Thanks for buying our product. You can setup two alarm clock at the same time, and the snooze function is individual. You can setup from 15mins up to 180mins for the sleep timer. And no worries, the Equalizer works for FM. We don't have DAB here now, but I think it will works for DAB, too.

Third! Never been this close to first. Anyways, I’m really glad you are reviewing more modern radios, I’ve always wanted a WiFi radio. Please keep doing this
@todderbert Hi Man ! :) I'm interesting in this one to buy ! I'm from Europe , Serbia and we have DAB+ AAC on 128 kbps stations with higher quality than DAB . I only hope this radio catch good DAB + and have on display informations about format mp3 . AAC , DAB, DAB + , bitrate . Second , very important to me is FM receiving , sensitivity , selectivity ... Is this Radio have DSP for FM as Tescun pl310ET ? And i have seen that you catched 80 FM statiions with external antenna :) I know that this radio haven't external antenna's jack . So my question is: Is this radio have the same or little lesser or better receiving of FM stations with his 50 cm Telesopic antenna than Tescun pl310et with his Telescopic antenna ? :) If it is the same or very close i will buy this one , for sure !! And is they have good receiving of RDS info ? Thanks to reply Man , i wait for ! :) Best regards from Serbia , Europe ! :) P.S. I buy a Tecsun pl310et thanks to your GREAT review and catched on automatic search 58 FM stations with Telescopic antenna :) I hope Ocean Digital WR-23D can catch with his DSP FM processor (if have DSP) similar number of FM stations, around 50-60 and have similar selectivity and sensitivity as my Tecsun 310 et :)
@@todderbert thanks for answer mate :) It means a lot to me ! Only i want to know is it the same FM reception or little bit worse than Tecsun's pl310 compare to him becuse i already have that Tecsun. So, if it is close between them i will buy WR-23D, because he have much better quality of sound, Equilizer, RDS and DAB+ !! :)
@@todderbert Thank you very much ! :) I will buy one , because of catching DAB+ and great sound on speaker and hedphones on all bands - FM , DAB + and Bluetooth :) He looks like complete and Great Portable Radio , almost perfect for a price and dimensions :) Only what i don't like is baterry because he cannot normally change ...
@@todderbert mate i have still 2 questioan about WR-23D , is have instead od automatic search manual search and how many stations he can memorized on automatic and manual search on FM and DAB + ? :)
It seems to have a feature to add audio streams by URL. I wonder if it can handle Broadcastify streams. If yes, it can be used as a (sort of) portable scanner.
@@todderbert Well, well. I’m pretty sure Broadcastify uses mp3. Looks hopeful. I think this is going on my wish list. Even if that doesn’t work, I don’t think anyone could be disappointed with all it does for this price.
Does the radio use a Texas Instruments Blackfin DSP processor?, You should always download and install the latest firmware updates does the DAB not use either QPSK or QAM
I wonder if it uses Reciva for internet. They won't be sending out the tokin for the Qualcomm chips after January 2021 making most wifi radios already in service obsolete.
Does that mean that my CCWiFi will stop working when January comes? I have one of these WiFi radios and I do like to listen to some stations on it. It would be very unfortunate if I had to get rid of it. I would think that internet radio is a sign of things to come. Guess not 😕
@@alexlawler9515 I certainly hope not; that might be the deciding factor. I may actually have to buy one of these. My CCWiFi is going dark soon enough. It was an awesome radio and connected easily with speakers. Sounds great but it will be out soon. Would like this as a replacement. You’ll have to tell me more about Skytune.
@@RJDA.Dakota I believe Skytune is one of the smaller portals around but does allow manual additions so you can always add URLs yourself of streams that aren't on Skytune. How this is done I don't know as Skytune does not let you set up a personal account.
I don’t see that he’s done a review of that particular Sangean so I don’t know how he’d do a comparison. However I can compare one thing. This radio is $70, the Sangean is $120+.
@@mavfan1 I have 2 Sangean radios that I have been very impressed with the quality and I have never heard of Ocean Digital before, so if someone had experience with both, said the Sangean was a better radio, than I wouldn't mind spending the extra for it. I have never had a internet radio and know nothing about them, but I would like to have one.
@@kwd57 I have a friend who has the Sangean and likes it, but he also likes this radio, mainly because of it's display. He plans to buy this model. I will ask him what he thinks. He is a radio guru also :)
@Melanie , FCC not decided yet but that post over over a year ago & now they may keep longer. Many new vehicles not even have HD Radio in them & HD Radio very costly to run & not in many areas still & DAB+ will be cheaper to do but before they do that they need to eliminate the 220 Ham radio band as they use same frequencies.

For shame! 😉😂
@@BuddyS95 I have it ready to release, but there are others ahead of it :)
Good review.Thanks.
Seems these radios are getting a bit more responsive in the userinterface. About time.
The casing and buttons of this one needs a much better quality.
I like the matte finish. The buttons could be improved, possibly with metal ones.
Thank you for the great review.
Excelente review, very clear and informative. Great portable radio, next buy. Greetings
I've had mine a while now. And use it every day. It has a adequate wifi range. But it will drop off at certain distances. Its often falls backwards due to being so slim and antenna weight . Minor design flaw. All in all great radio!👍
The battery is right inside behind the manufacturer information, that's why it falls backwards, is not balanced.
DAB in Canada ended in 2006.
Yes definitely Wi-Fi and DAB Plus wireless. Be nice to have short wave . The makita work radios Singh to have a lot of features. It's nice to see small affordable options
The Ocean Digital WR-23D WiFi Radio is on discount again on Amazon at $69.99.
Great review. Can you review the Pure ELAN CONNECT All-In-One Internet Radio for comparison?
Won't this unit have to be thrown away in only 2-3 years when the battery dies?
I could see that if you are traveling that could come in handy
You can manually add in the favorites editor: th-cam.com/video/YD-46Sl34FA/w-d-xo.html page 29 in the manual.
A very nice radio except for one thing...the volume control is backwards to the way Im use to...
how do you access the wifi initially? what about public wifi say at a library?
its good except for sound quality which is so-so. wifi sensitivity is just ACCEPTABLE. customer service was pretty much the best part, which was EXCELLENT. the FM RDS was broken, so they released an update just for my model and it was fixed!!
Is available on Amazon ? What costs it ?
This is available on Amazon US, DE FR ES IT NL..
Is the battery replaceable?
Sorry, it isn't. It is with built-in rechargeable Li-Ion battery (2000 mAh).
Dang I was waiting to hear what happened to the boat that was on fire...
I just ordered this radio yesterday!! Tonight I heard that Reciva an internet aggregator is shutting down on the first of January 2021. Is this going to affect the O D WR-23D?? Will it still work??
Hi, Bob Lewis. Don't worry! This radio uses Skytune portal. It won't be affected by Reciva. Thanks for liking our radio.
@@oceandigital352 Thanks! That’s good to know!! Can’t wait to try it!!
You could also probably replace it if you have some soldering experience.
@@todderbert known somewhere where they sell this battery with 18650 cord??
Could make a comparison with the Sangean WFR-28 Internet Radio.
I have one and love it.
It has it's own service, but you can always use it as a bluetooth speaker paired to your phone.
@@todderbert I'm confused. If you don't have internet at home, and you don't have a smart phone or Hotspot. does this radio still pick up internet stations?
@@billmcgovern2290 You would need an access point of some kind to use the WiFi feature. If you do not have access to the internet the radio can still be used on FM, DAB and DAB+.
how good is fm?
PS, TNX for the upload and greetings from Belgium.
I like your review here, but nothing on DAB+. I understand that it's not available in your area, but do you know know whether it uses the Aac system that has been used for the past 11 years in Australia, or the mp2 system used in the UK? They are not interchangeable. I haven't been able to find out this info elsewhere.
I'll try and contact the company for you. Also maybe I can get them to watch this and answer questions in the comments section that I can't.
Thanks for asking, Greg Pain. This radio supports DAB/DAB+ format.
@@gregpain8541 Hi, Greg Pain. Just checked with our technical support colleague, our radio supports AAC. ^^
Hi Todd, are you able to pick up music in other countries? Like South America and European countries? I'm considering this for a friend.
yes there are foreign music audio streams.
I have a SONY DAB which has a timer alarm which can come on with Radio. Only works with radio if its plugged in and Radio Caroline is poor reception in my area. Does this have that radio come on function, thanks. Sounds lovely btw.
This radio has no alarm function.
There is a sleep timer but no alarm clock.
@@rvdb8876 Thanks, pity.
@@paulpells1864 WR336 series a bit bigger has alarm but it has to be plugged in to work.
Do dab radio signals even exist in the us? I hear that the are commonly used in other countries.
we don't, just HD channels on the 88-108 FM band.
I missed it in the video how long does the battery last on internet, DAB, and FM?
8-10 hours, internet uses the most battery. Only 2000 mAh battery inside.
@@oceandigital352
Thanks.
I expect the delivery today.
I look forward to it.
@@oceandigital352
Three weeks ago I was looking forward to this radio, which I had ordered.
However, I had to send it back, because the sound reproduction in DAB+ sounded distorted, overdriven, over-saturated, even at low volume.
Neither the volume control nor the equalizer settings had any influence on this distortion, which was especially noticeable in the reproduction of low tones (bass).
Even at low volume, it was distorted through both the speaker and headphones.
Terrible to hear, because normally the sound quality in DAB+ is superior compared to FM, at least on all other DAB radios that I own.
So clearly something was wrong.
Although, in FM playback and Internet radio, the sound reproduction sounded decent.
A second order arrived on December 5, 2020 and much to my disappointment this second device also had the same problem.
I sent it back today.
Have I really had bad luck twice in a row, or is this a structural problem of this WR-23D series.
If anyone has already used this device in DAB+, I would like to hear the experiences, because I am afraid to order it a third time.
Having to return an item three times in a few weeks is a bit too much.
Too bad, because I own a predecessor, the Ocean Digital WR-26, which works perfectly, also in DAB +.
So I had faith in it.
A pity, because I think the Ocean Digital WR-23D is an elegant format that I would have liked to have added to my collection.
I also want to mention that all DAB+ stations in my area broadcast in aac 88 to 96 kbs, which guarantees quite decent quality, knowing that aac is a better and more performing codec than mp3.
---- Update on December 15, 2020 ----
I contacted Ocean Digital by e-mail and explained that twice I received a device whose sound was distorted in DAB.
They were very curious about my experience and asked for more specific explanations.
So I explained that it was like an audio overdrive in the first stage of the audio gain before the volume control, because it didn't affect the amount of distortion.
On December 8 I received an email from Ocean Digital that it was probably too much gain in DAB.
They had made a new update to fix this problem.
Unfortunately, I had already returned the device and could not try it out anymore.
So I placed a new order that would be delivered on December 17th.
Only then will I be able to judge.
But in the meantime I am amazed by the services of Ocean Digital.
In fact, they were happy that I reported the problem as they are striving, they say, to constantly improve their products.
The re-ordered device (WR-23D) arrived today (december 15, 2020) and after connecting to the internet via WiFi, it started updating automatically.
As planned by the Ocean Digital team, the device is now working completely normally.
The distortion in the DAB+ audio playback has disappeared.
Good service from Ocean Digital and fast response to solve the problem.

Nice receiver.
Guess not 😕
It uses the Skytune portal. As far as know the closure of Reciva will not affect the Skytune portal.
@@alexlawler9515 I certainly hope not; that might be the deciding factor. I may actually have to buy one of these. My CCWiFi is going dark soon enough. Probably have to have some soldering skill to add a new battery or have Ocean Digital do it for you.

Hi 👋
DAB+ isn't available yet in the US & Canada. It will soon be available after they end HD Radio sometime in 2023-2024.
