I've watched several of these salmon patty videos. Yours is the first that used corn meal. DING DING DING...we have a winner. The corn meal and the fresh onions are what makes your recipe special. Gonna make em this week, along with some rice and peas. Sounds like a perfect meal to me! THANK YOU for this video!!
My favorite sides to go with salmon patties is buttery mashed potatoes, sautéed spinach, cooked apples (with butter, cinnamon & nutmeg) and biscuits. I’m getting hungry just thinking about it😊
My family's from the Midwest and we grew up on salmon patties, too-canned salmon is an economical protein. I don't recall my mom adding parsley, but otherwise they were very similar. Peas and mac & cheese were our usual sides. Makes me feel nostalgic. These look good.
SIS SIS SIS, I made these & LAWD LAWD, they were so so so good!! Thank you for the recipe!! I wish I could post pictures in the comments because they were soooo dog gone good!!!
I grew up in a trailer in rural Ohio in the mid 1980s with just me and my Mom. She made these all the time. I'm nearing 50 and doing fairly well in life but I'll never be above cracking a can of salmon for some salmon cakes. The best, one of my favorite things of all time.
Starting @ 2:53 In flipping the Salmon Pads [ as w/ hamburgers ] I usually " Tilt the Pan " So that the oil goes to the Other Side / and That eliminates the " Splatter " !
My mother used to make salmon patties when I was a little girl. I am 62 years old now and I am getting ready to make my first salmon patties ever I watched a couple of recipes and then I came across yours wonderful absolutely wonderful. I cannot wait to make them tomorrow.🎉❤
Thank you! Wonderful, wonderful. Let me tell you, I grew up on these and they are one of my favorite things ever. HEY, listen up ya'll: Put some lemon juice on them right before you dig into your patty....even lemon juice from a bottle. My goodness. I miss you Mom!! Mom would always make this with Macaroni and Tomatoes. Oh, my gosh..... Thanks again.
I haven't made this in years and wanted to try it your way with the corn meal. Made it this morning and loved it. It came out perfect, thank you for sharing.
Wow, cornmeal...ive never used that in the patties before...i always use instat potato flakes or just boiled potatoes but i will definitely try this cornmeal...perhaps this seasoned fish fry and just hold back on the salt. Yours look delicious ❤🎉
Ooh! I love the addition of parsley. I usually use dill when I have it. I’m gonna try parsley next. Also excellent tip about flipping them away from you. 👍🏼
My Mom used to make these for us when I was growing up. Same as yours, less the parsley. I loved them so much! She always cooked a LOT of them and there were always some patties leftover. And they made the best sandwiches ever =) I got hungry for these today and really didn't know how to make them. Your video is the only I watched because you do it just like Mom did. Thank you so much for sharing
Those who can afford it, I say go for it. Otherwise, a can is just as good and much cheaper. Food is so high in price, I can't imagine too many people going for a fresh fillet.
Thank you for the simplicity my mom used to make these. I tried after she died but I think I was doing too much. I'm going to use this method but add in the shredded onions, finely chop celery and a little bell pepper. I'll be mindful of the salt. Thanks again, it seems so simple when you explain it! ❤
@@elevatedflavor1 not sure about that but you know how something becomes better after the person is no longer here to make it? I look forward to trying your way! 🩷
I also use diced red pepper. You could Use green. Green peppers do nothing agree without me. I saute my diced onion and peppers beforehand adding to the salmon.
Thank you for sharing your recipe. I had leftover portions of canned salmon (in water) and sardines (in olive oil). I combined them for my patties. I make salmon cakes often but I like trying new ideas. I was very pleased with the results from using grated onion and the cornmeal. I think they improved the flavor and texture of my patties. I served with Basmati rice and Normandy vegetable mix. Dinner was a success! Thank you😊
Thanks Sis😉❤️ Your recipe was SO Clutch💯 Our BabyGirl is allergic to fish, so it's been SOOO Long since I made salmon patties, I was a little Unsure of myself, But Now?...I'm Goid To Go😁
I also add diced red bell pepper along with the onion. I saute the pepper and onion before adding. I also add the parsley. I use bread crumbs rather than cornmeal and flour. ❤❤❤
Made these they're good. I like to chop up some bell pepper and red pepper in mine. I also started baking mine instead. These are good for breakfast with eggs
Hi! I enjoyed your video… I found it looking for a salmon patty recipe! I made them tonight and used seasoned breadcrumbs in place of flour and cornmeal… they turned out yummy!!! Thanks for your idea!
I love to make sandwiches with Salmon Patties - I'm trying these right now. I haven't made them in some years. That's why I'm here to remember how I made them lol
I just decided to watch this before dinner lol. I was having flashbacks of years ago eating salmon patties. I grew up just using crackers and or seasoned breadcrumbs the egg etc. you want to know for serving what is EXCELLENT? Country gravy over the patties. - mmmmm. Maybe rice like you saying mixed with corn buttered and salt. Wheeeew! I’m going fast food rt now just cus it’s fast. Lol Great cooking these up👍
Aweeeee those look so good. When I was a kid we'd get a box of commodities every month from the government and when it had canned salmon in it my mom would make these only she used saltine crackers. I like the cornmeal idea better. You can get I'm gonna try these.
@lennybuttz2162 I still be asking my older sister and her lil old friends for that canned salmon and anything else I like out them commodity boxes...some of that food is very good. 😂😍
@@sanr6816 This was back in the 60s some of the food was good. We'd get this HUGE can of peanut butter, like the size they'd buy for a restaurant or something and it 'd have like 1/2 inch of oil on the top and I'd have to mix it in but I was so little I could only stir down about 3 inches.
@@lennybuttz2162 oh wow🤣🤣🤣🤣I didn't know they had commodities way back then...I was born in 68 but my parents didn't get any until they got old....maybe 1988

Yep, cook mine just like this. Gonna try grating the onions instead of chopping. Also, will try adding the parsley. Good video, old school.
Awesome ! Yes, grating the onion is so quick and easy.
Thanks sis will check this out

I’ve only had them WITH cornmeal.
This is exactly how my grandmother made hers. With cornmeal and a little bit of flour.
