  • I built a 52v 1500w 20ah electric bike using a bafang bbshd mid drive motor and a polygon siskiu d6 dual suspension mountain bike. In this video I took my freshly built ebike on its first test ride and had a ton of fun! Until it broke...

    I'm building one from scratch. My setup is a BBSHD 52v 21ah 1700w attached to a DH frame. It's currently in the workshop with the finishing touches being added to the actual bike. I'll get it in 3 more days. Can't wait, so exciting!

    Regarding the voltage, it will read over 52v when fully charged. 52v is the nominal voltage. Each single lithium cell has a voltage range of 3v. - 4.2v max.

    Just when you are getting comfortable and having fun, it breaks, what a bummer. It looked great while it lasted though. Pushing your bike home really sucks, but hey, at least it wasn't a 500 lb CB750 lol...

    You knew you couldn't hit top gear bro, When I read at "1st ride it broke!!" I really thought it was the motor, thank goodness it wasn't.. Guess you could only be upset with ya self for not getting a new chain before the ride.. I get the excitement to try. Good video .. Lesson learnt ...

    Yep the old walk back of shame. Had been there done that as broke my custom Bafang Ultra built on first ride due to chain ring and when chain pop took Derailer with it even though was correct size chain. I ended up upgrading whole gear set and now offset correct and nice and smooth shifting and haven’t broke a chain since. Frame heavy duty as custom frame welded due to motor had to custom fit and upgraded everything else while was at it. Probably best custom bike I build over the years.
    Those Bafang motors are good but definitely need high quality frame and higher quality Group set and chain.

    the voltage is correct, and it is the sign of a healthy battery pack. if you take a 12 volt car battery for an example, and charge it up, you will see the voltage is between 13 -14 voltage.
    that goes for most battery's that the voltage should be taken loosly. if you have 4, 12 volt battery's in series and each of them are 2 volts over the rated voltage, you will have 56 volts.

    I have built my ebike: 5000W QS 273 rear hub Motor, 200 amps controller, 84V 33ah battery, it is a beast of so much fun.

      Gwen, what is your bike building background? What frame and fork did you choose? Does that bike pedal or just pegs? A beast for sure with 5K watts.

    It is an awesome video! However I do believe that you may need to look into getting peddle extenders. I recently changed my regular nice saddle seat for a longer and wider seat. It changed the front of my seat from two to four inches! So when I was riding, my knees were wider and my feet were hanging over the pedals by an inch! So my feet would struggle to stay the pedals on ruff terrain! So pedal extenders were exactly what I needed, they gave me an extra inch on both sides! Plus it aloud my knees to spread a little more apart with the second battery which is on the frame of my e bike!

    Good idea in a way,upgrade your push bike to powered. The only downside is the frame everything is strengthen up.. Your push bike will be so frail and break a lot. 😊

    I don't want to be 'That Guy' but before twatting about with the chain, ALWAYS turn off the battery first. That chain could rip your hand in half without skipping a beat just by accidentally touching the throttle.

  • @Hybrid600
    @Hybrid600 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    How was your chainline with that Bafang front chainring? You'd get a better one with a Lekkie Blingring with an offset. Dial in the drivetrain perfectly at the shop before riding it and putting a load on it.

  • @TitoJoebs
    @TitoJoebs 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    When you want to know the top speed, start of with the first gear, then change the gears until you reach the 11T gear. As for the chainring, attach a chain guide so the chain would fall off.

    Sick Ride! Make sure you begin accelerating in the correct gear or you will eat freehubs fast with that much power.
    Definitely put on the shift sensor that will help make your hub last.

  • @djneils100

    get a gear sensor - reduces a lot of strain on the drivetrain by cutting the motor power when you're shifting

    Hey don't feel to bad loo,s like a decent build you just had an oops. Me and amaewen hough a few derailers like that without electricity assist back in the day just from screwy landings or excessive force. Maybe look at an even longer chain and a chain tensioner mid way down the swing arm to help everything run a little smoother the module you have ordered will help im guessing as well

      Too short of a chain killed the rear derailleur. Truthfully, he is very lucky...could have taken out the rear wheel, rear derailleur hanger and even break the rear triangle of the frame. Riders have been hurt as well doing this because of afore mentioned.
      Sophomore mistake and bet he doesn't do it again. A clutch style rear derailleur works best for mid drive ebike applications.

      What makes an ebike 'socially acceptable' is you are able to ride fast without public scrunity. Any 2 stroke motorycle is loud. This is what makes ebikes better than mopeds. I built a stealthy 'roadbike' with dropbar and 28c tires with BBSHD and 52 volt battery. I can ride it anywhere including on the sidewalk. Nobody even knows unless I pass them or they see the battery. That is the advantage of an ebike. Its like a magic carpet ride. No noise. I have built many high power custom motorcycles. Can ride them on a MUP or get any contribution to fitness.

    7:19 This is why EV's should have much smaller motors/batteries and have a transmission. EVs would be amazing. But everyone wants to follow Elons "transmission-less design" which sucks for anything other than a sports car.

    You may also want to upgrade the torsion bar for the mid-mount. This is one I found quickly but I'm sure there are others around. california-ebike.com/shop/bsbf-1-bafang-stabilizer-bar-full-suspension-bike-bbs0102-bbshd/. With that amount of power you will need it for sure, the little ring thingy they give you in the kit just won't cope and the motor will work itself loose. I am Looking forward to seeing more testing, good job, man.
