  • Hi. Today we built a brooder for some baby chicks. It actually took a couple of days to finish it, but it turned out great and we can keep at least 100 chicks in here until they’re ready to go out to the barn. The project cost roughly $200 and was pretty easy to build. We used 2x4s, plywood, and hardware cloth to put this together.
    Thanks for watching.

Exactly what I was looking for nice job. Going to use your idea and build a 2'x6' version of your with a flat top.

Yes. I ended up removing the top and putting a flat top on myself. It was much more practical.

Nice job! What did you glue to the floor(white material)?

It was like a white wall panel from Lowes. I thought it would be better for clean up. It's not really necessary.

How long were you able to keep the 100 chicks in there?? Love it though!
Also what was the lumber supply list and the fencing list (like how much of the wood and the wiring did you use?)?

Probably about 6 weeks max. We have a few brooders now. I've also taken the top off this thing and went with a flat hinged roof (door). I don't have plans for this but I remember it being about 20 feet of 4 foot hardware cloth and 2 sheets of 4'x8' plywood and about 10 2x4 by 8 feet. a couple of 1/4s for the top and some hinges.

They each needed more time learning how to drink and drinking more.
