I'm glad you didn't give her up. YOU deserve to raise the child that YOU disabled. YOU deserve to endure the hard days because she didn't deserve this life. She could have been healthy and led a normal life. Im glad you sobered up and learned your lesson, but too bad it was at the expense of your child.
@mikecru9229 I will not, and I didn't screw my child up because of my carelessness, so no bones like that under my bed bud. When you make poor decisions that affect other people, you will get zero sympathy from me. 🤷♀️
Thank you! I can’t with these “maybe they didn’t know they were pregnant” bs. My sister in law was actively drinking vodka during her third trimester so I get so angry when people try to make excuses. There are NO excuses. And this mom acts like she didn’t completely ruin that poor child’s life. I just cant have any sympathy for them because once you decide to have kids you are responsible for them. All of my empathy goes to that poor child who will probably despise their mom once they realize SHE CAUSED THAT.
First step to healing is awareness and accountability, owning up to your mistakes and growing from them. Glad to see the mother has changed her life around and is raising her daughters with love.
I respect that she's being honest about what she did and decided to keep her child even knowing she's disabled. However, I'm an alcoholic (or damn near close to one), and my God, even I can't imagine wanting so badly to get drunk that I'd sentence my child to a lifetime of severe disabilities. It's worth nine months of sobriety, however torturous.
You are definately not an alcoholic! Lol- I am (13 years sober) NO question, no way I could have just stopped drinking for 9 months- a real alcoholic has to be in jail or rehab, pregnancy unfortunately isn't a strong enough match for addiction.
Then you aren't an alcoholic or are underestimating how hard stopping would be. Also, bodies aren't clocks. You might not realise that you are pregnant for several months and by then the harm is most likely done.
I'm so glad Natalie's mom got sober. I'm surprised she was allowed to have custody of her though. My son is adopted. His birth mom drank and she got no prenatal care. When he was born, the hospital called Child Protective Services on her. He was in terrible shape and about 6 weeks premature. She told me the doctor told her that my son most likely had Fetal Alcohol Syndrome. She had decided to keep him about a week before his birth. And I had told my husband after I met her that I had a feeling she was going to keep him. (we didn't know about her drinking then) She kept my son for a week and then decided he would be better off with us. Thankfully he does not have FAS. It was an open adoption and I reconnected with my son's birth mother last year. He's met his birth parents and his siblings. His birth parents are nice people. And my son is so happy to meet his younger siblings.
The troube with Fetal Alcohol Syndrome, is that you are affecting another persons whole life when you choose to drink and be pregnant.... its them that have all the pain and troubles because of you.
I wish the fathers had to face the same restrictions. They get away with everything. It's a good thing the court system at least attempts to make things fair
"I always judged people like me" Yeah.. if you drink while pregnant you should be judged. It's WAY worse than being a drunk driver, and we lock those up
It’s not way worse than being a drunk driver. It’s almost as bad, because in both ways you risk ruining or ending someone’s life. Both drunk drivers and pregnant women who drink should be judged terribly
I was a alcoholic. I would literally drink beer or wine everyday and once I found out I was pregnant I stopped cold turkey. There’s no cravings for a drink because I wouldn’t be able to live with myself knowing I caused my daughter to be born disabled and that she will never have a normal life. It’s appalling how they still let her have custody of her children. That baby was born so premature. If you can’t go 9 months without a drink you don’t deserve to be a mother.
I wrote a very honest comment under this video not too long ago…. I don’t see it ,so looks like it got removed. I basically agree with you But In my comment…. I probably was not as nice as you. I definitely was not as nice. 😆
Generally I would agree, not because I'm judging, but because the child deserves a parent who can take care of them. I have an adopted child and the parents didn't try at all to change. However, this mother did change. Not in time to prevent consequences, unfortunately, but if she became clean and was trustworthy at that point forward, I don't see a legitimate reason to take a child away, except just to punish her. You'd have to be able to trust the parent, obviously. But if a parent is safe and loving, a child is almost always better off with their biological parent. That's a big if. As much as I value adoption, I see how it traumatizes even infants. It is a loss and an identity crisis that they deal with their whole lives, even when there's no memory. I am still all for adoption, but in this case it does not seem it was necessary. Maybe she had a family member who had temporary custody while she was in rehab. But I think it turned out for the best. As long as the mother was parenting well, the daughter was better off to stay with her. It's hard to see kids get hurt, but you've got to look at it going forwards, not back.
@JM51501 • I guess God had other plans. Like forgiveness, deliverance, healing, and restoration. Love covers a multitude of faults. Beautiful family. 💙💙💙🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾👍🏾🤟🏾😊😇🥰
It’s also a warning to people who drink and become pregnant, the dangers it has towards a unborn child. Im glad she was able to get her life together now even though her daughter now has FAS, it don’t mean she can’t live a good life.
Should be illegal to drink whilst pregnant! Start testing for alcholol in expectant mothers and enforcing terminations if the mother is drinking. The child is cute now, but what will happen when she becomes an adult? Being a parent should be a privilege not a right.
I understand why you feel that way but addiction is so strong. These aren't bad women, they were just lost in life. You hurt a lot of people when you're in addiction in many ways, not only your own children. It's terrible. And you feel guilt and the worst shame imaginable. In this woman's case, she sobered up and became a good mom to her kids, why bother taking them? As a recovered addict myself, I can tell you I still lay awake because of my guilt and shame, none of the bad things I did were me, they were the substances that had taken over my mind body and spirit and I'd give anything to go back in time and change things. Jail would have lead me to suicide probably, I needed treatment and kind support. An iron fist isn't always the answer.
@@yesleksmith There are things that can never be made up for. If an alcohol addicted man brutally raped his wife and then started therapy and became sober, would you expect the wife to stay with him and show "kind support"? I wouldn’t. But the victim of this mother's doings still lives with her. Natalie probably doesn't understand yet what her mother did to her, but some day she will and she will realize that the person she is supposed to trust is the one who robbed her of a normal life. With destroying this child's life she lost the right to be her mother. I'm the daughter of an alcohol addict mother. She drank herself to death. And she always said that she would have quit if people had been kinder to her, her life wouldn’t have been so stressfull, her marriage would have been better... It were always the others who should have behaved differently. The harsh truth is: Only you are responsible for your life. And if you can’t stop drinking when noone supports you, no one loves you and no one is willing to give you a second chance then you haven't overcome your addiction.
Don't get this "she is brave" thing. That woman can start drinking any moment if she wants, then stop, then start again, make another kid etc. But kid wouldn't get health back and is doomed for whole life.
She's willing to speak, publicly, of what she did, so others will know of the negative consequences of drinking during pregnancy AND so others will know it's possible to become sober and become a wonderful mom after making the decision to do so (and with the support of others) - despite knowing there are judgmental people who will blame her for her drinking and disregard all the changes she has made and the excellent care and love she is clearly providing for both of her daughters now. That is indeed brave!
@@krisw5318 yeahh we are so bad bad for judging her! i mean she is so amazinggg righttt what a mom should be the mother of the year like seriously! its so hard to like not drink right? its harder than being a ret@rd with FAS like omggg

Absolutely awful. These kids would have been much different if she wasn’t drinking while pregnant. I could never live with myself if I knew I caused a birth defect in my kid.
Thank you for bravely telling your story! When I was pregnant I remember a lot of moms online saying/debating that it was OK to drink one glass of wine a day or a week and their doctors OKed it! Multiple people. This information is so important. Nobody knows how much alcohol can cause brain damage in their unborn baby.
I hear what you're saying, however I think it's important to draw a distinction between drinking a glass of wine per day during pregnancy, and FAS. FAS requires very heavy alcohol intake. The mother of a child born with FAS will have a serious addiction problem.
What a great mom! Unfortunately I knew a woman who drank and partied heavily throughout all 3 of her pregnancies-she couldn’t give up a good time. By the Grace of God her children were born healthy, but the sight of her stumbling out of a party and falling onto her pregnant belly laughing is still revolting.
@@Mimi-bs7kn that doesn't make her a bad mom, shes still a great mom because she turned her life around for her daughter. Great moms, turn their life around, great moms don't blame others, great moms try their best to get better, great moms make mistakes and admit to them while trying to not repeat it. Your definition of a "great mom" needs to be reevaluated. Be more understanding, not judgmental.
"By the Grace of God her children were born healthy," Really? Have they been examined for FASD and been found not to have it? I'm wondering if they have it in a subtle way - in a way that effects executive functioning and not intelligence or facial appearance. Unnoticed and undiagnosed FASD can seriously impair someone's quality of life.
I loved how Natalie’s mom said “she saved my life”. Her mom seems like a very loving parent, and maybe she is that way even more so because of Natalie’s condition. Despite her having FAS, she seems genuinely loved and supported. I think her mom is extremely brave, and I am glad to see she had the help she also needed for her addiction/illness, and can enjoy her beautiful family that is clearly filled with much love.
I’m glad this mom came forward and did this cause it educates people and I just hope anyone drinking that becomes pregnant or might be, will decide to get help before or right away. I have FAE. Fetal alcohol effect. Similar but less severe. I can’t imagine the guilt she carry’s. My bio mom gave me up and I have two loving parents for the last 40 years. I have no animosity toward my bio mother for what happened despite having vision loss cause of it and being learning disabled growing up. I have only some of the facial features
That's not a helpful, or constructive comment. Judging or ridiculing the mother will not help her, the child, or any other family dealing with FAS. The helpful thing to do is encourage people with an addiction to seek help. Being judgmental or stigmatising those with addictions only decreases the likelihood of them seeking help. That benefits neither the addict, the child, nor society.
I saw a video about this syndrome. Where several youngsters with it, were living in an institution together. I think it was in Denmark, but not completely sure. They all suffered, and cried a lot because of it! And they were angry about their mothers giving it to them. It was nothing sweet or adorable about it, just a lot of struggles and sadness. This video is not showing the real life struggles, these people are having!!!!
Those kids are living in an institution. This girl is living with her loving mom, who has recovered from her disease and will forever be in atonement for the hurt she caused her daughter. These situations aren’t comparable.
@@MNHRI This girl is a lot younger than they were. The struggles got bigger as they grew to teenage years and older. When they started comparing themselves to other young healty adults. it was extremely sad and tragic, when they now cried a lot about what they could have been like. If the mothers had not been drinking during pregnancy. It was just so painful to see all the physical challenges as well as the psychological ones they had to struggle with, on a daily basis, as young adults.
It's easy to judge people because you don't know what they are going through. Going through life saying what you would never do, until you do it. My heart goes out to anyone who struggles with addiction.
But regardless, there’s a little being that needs you; you have to be there to care and raise them. The mom did what was right, she got sober and took her motherhood seriously
Watching 1:54 makes me think she felt the same way. Good chance she wasn't in rehab only for addiction, but possibly also depression or suicidal ideation. We are often our worst critics
The mother owns her poor choices but made the choice to care for her child and is doing obviously better. At least she didn’t continue, at least she didn’t pawn her child off to someone else, at least she has taken accountability and responsibility. She has given her from what we can see a happy life and a sister to love. God bless them all.
And noticing she is facing a lifetime of having to care for her sister after her mother is passed out on someone's couch or dead. She ruined two lives.
@@elliottkitai5890 Isn't it obvious?? The mom was an alcoholic and drank during her pregnancy which is absolutely irresponsible and dangerous, and now her daughter will pay the price for the rest of her life with a serious developmental disability. And you ask why?
Child abuse. This should not be glorified, respected or accepted. It’s literally attempted murder and mental health/ addiction should not be taken lightly when risking another human life. Want to be a fool… do it to yourself. Done deal.
She is truly a blessing to her mom, her mom realizes her purpose because of her.. True she was save by her daughter. She must be grateful and thankful to God everyday.💗
Where's God. I can't see or hear him. Not everybody believes in a higher power so stop shoving your fanaticism down people's throat. The baby was not born into this world to help save her mother. It should be the other way around. What's wrong with you?
it's common sense when your pregnant and drinking we know we can damage the unborn it's sad this little girls life is ruined she won't live a normal life and she will need adult care all her life
I‘m sad to read that people want to see the mom in jail. I see the point in condemning the consumption of alcohol, that shouldn‘t have happened, that’s clear.. but it makes no sense to put the mom in jail. a.) she is sober, b.) she can take care of her kids. Losing her mom, wouldn’t help her child. Nothing can make the damage undone. The only thing the mum can do is staying on track and continue to be honest with her child, even though questions and strong emotions will arise from the girl at some point pointing all to the question: „why did you let this happen?“ it‘s such a sad story indeed, but punishments and hating the mom wouldn‘t change anything.
I think our schools can be the place where kids learn about responsibility of relationships, behavior and helping at risk population make good choices.
Schools are one possible place to learn such things, but they're not the only option. Family, neighbors, and others in the community can also help a person learn such things - in a more practical way than is often the case in school, where (especially by high school) there's not always adequate adult supervision, let alone opportunities for teens to talk with people who take the role of mentor, at length, about difficult subjects.
She beat all odds, she chose to keep her baby and beat her addiction. She then had a healthy child free from the effects of alcohol, she has something to be proud of. Is it tragic that she drank while pregnant with her first? Absolutely. Should her shame over her past sins be greater than the joys of her success? Absolutely not. Repentance is the way to salvation; who can judge another who has done the work to atone for their past?
Im glad to hear she straightened her life up and says her daughter saved her, but her daughter is the one paying the price for that.

Ayyyo chill with the damnation 😂 hold your piece ,that ain't no one documenting the bones underneath your bed 🛏️
Well said. Accountability.
First step to healing is awareness and accountability, owning up to your mistakes and growing from them. Glad to see the mother has changed her life around and is raising her daughters with love.
unfortunately the child can never grow from it.
@@Yupyupyup32yes unfortunately. But this is the reality so what would you rather the mother do.
@@MScrista24 go to jail
I respect that she's being honest about what she did and decided to keep her child even knowing she's disabled. However, I'm an alcoholic (or damn near close to one), and my God, even I can't imagine wanting so badly to get drunk that I'd sentence my child to a lifetime of severe disabilities. It's worth nine months of sobriety, however torturous.
I hope ur doing alright
yeah, the absolute selfishness of this woman knows no bounds. she ruined the life of a child, because of her addiction.
Why hasn’t she been charged with a crime?
that’s a crime ?!

The worse mother you could ever have. She damaged her child for life because of her poor choices. Sad.
I loved the “IM A HORSE” “You’re a horse?” With her adorable little excited whisper “Yeah”
Made my whole day!
Sad story… but impressive and an example for others to learn from.
And still, I think Natalie is adorable the way she is.
May another pregnant woman with addiction see this clip and get the courage to go to rehab.
The troube with Fetal Alcohol Syndrome, is that you are affecting another persons whole life when you choose to drink and be pregnant.... its them that have all the pain and troubles because of you.
Lmfao ! Thanks for proving the pro-choice movement is pro-mur.dering children.
She saved your life and hers is different forever. 😔🙄🙄
sad that it took messing up her child for her to realize that her actions have consequences...
I wish the fathers had to face the same restrictions. They get away with everything. It's a good thing the court system at least attempts to make things fair
She saved my life????????? But what about hers??????
"I always judged people like me"
Yeah.. if you drink while pregnant you should be judged. It's WAY worse than being a drunk driver, and we lock those up
It’s not way worse than being a drunk driver. It’s almost as bad, because in both ways you risk ruining or ending someone’s life. Both drunk drivers and pregnant women who drink should be judged terribly
And both should be in jail or lose their kids
I love how cheerfully she said that, as if it's all okay now. No it's not.
You are awesome! And I agree with everything you said
I wrote a very honest comment under this video not too long ago….
I don’t see it ,so looks like it got removed.
I basically agree with you
But In my comment….

She saved my life, but I ruined hers. Smh!
Poor kid 😢 if only her mom didn’t drink when she was pregnant
She "saved your life." Too bad you couldn't save hers.
I feel mother's who does this should go to jail for knowingly causing harm to the baby.
Or I thought they get the baby taken away
Why? What good would that do anyone? This mother went to rehab and became sober. That's a much better result!
I agree
It’s so hard not to be judgmental sometimes. The mom doesn’t seem to have much shame for she did to her daughter.

I hear what you're saying, however I think it's important to draw a distinction between drinking a glass of wine per day during pregnancy, and FAS.
FAS requires very heavy alcohol intake. The mother of a child born with FAS will have a serious addiction problem.

Thank you for sharing your family's story. May it help many others.
Gee, great job there, mom.
I don’t see this as any different from a parent who abused their child outside the womb
It's not any different! Thank you!

It was just so painful to see all the physical challenges as well as the psychological ones they had to struggle with, on a daily basis, as young adults.

Natalie, you and your sister are so cute!

The mom seems so proud about what she did
She beat all odds, she chose to keep her baby and beat her addiction.
