    I've watched more than my fair share of DIY videos over the years, and this is one of the best I've seen to date. Very thorough and direct to the point at each spot along the way for the install. Very well done.

    Thanks for this. Used it to install in my 2011 RS5 last night.
    Installation went flawlessly except man it’s tight getting the head unit back in afterwards!
    I needed to use plastic prying tools to pry the climate controls from the rear
    My AliExpress unit came with zero instructions so was able to use your guide (screenshotted your dipswitch screenshot, mine being a 2011 was slightly different)
    Testing last night it ran great wirelessly and the integration with the factory controls was fine.
    Holding the “return” button for 3 secs will reboot the unit, didn’t see this documented anywhere so thought I’d mention it.
    Today is front brake rotor and pad change day

      Glad it was of help! With brake rotor/pad change day, should probably bleed the brakes too. Every two years max.

      Thought I’d reply to my own message and give my thoughts on it after a few months.
      Mine would sometimes have issues when running wirelessly with not connecting to CarPlay or the Bluetooth playing up, so I’ve started using the USB connection which I found works flawlessly with two regular drivers, as a benefit I removed the aerial and the whole thing fits in much easier.
      I was having to plug in for charge anyway.
      Also turn off the equaliser (set to normal) as it seems to mess with the b&o system

    Thanks for the video! I’ve just successfully installed mine.
    For me most challenging part is neither the installation nor wiring part but the final step: removing the audio removal tool / key..
    Just don’t buy those tools which are made fully by metal with no plastic part on them (like the ones in the video). These things may stuck in the unit and takes a lot of time and tries to pull them out. Literally they should be removed easily with a screwdriver pushing the locks on each side of the audio unit but the tools I’ve bought are poorly made so they really gave me a hard time.

    • @RS5Fanatic
      @RS5Fanatic  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It just requires pushing the lock tabs in on the back side of the unit, then the tools slide right out with zero effort.

    Thanks. Well done. Just bought unit for 2013 S5. I am using Android. FWIW, this unit does not work wirelessly on Android. You must use the provided USB connector. And then to actually access the Android apps, you need to connect ( it consistently fails the first connection attempt), turn everything off, and try again. So far, it works as advertised on the 2nd try.

I thought I'd get my feet wet with this model first.

The Floyd NFT, that's on a custom build I did a while back and I've since moved to a different trem as that one was giving me stability issues. I've had a few R9's in the past myself! Thank you for your work and this video. I am waiting for my kit to come this weekend and get it installed on my 15 allroad. Your video is straightforward and will totally help getting this installed. Already familiar with the mmi since we've recently unmounted it to replace the HDD *5f module failure* . We got it cloned and averted a ridiculous $2500 price tag for a new MMI unit that Audi wants. Saving all that money now allows me to get the carplay unit from RSNAV. The S2 big screens are nice but i read little nagging issues here and there about it. I think the Carplay interface will suffice and keeps it OEM!
    Just to clarify on the Bluetooth- If I turn off the MMI BT (and use only the Carplay interface BT) - and I happen to be using the factory MMI (Satellite per se) and i receive a phone call--- would that automatically switch to CarPlay even though i did not have it engaged initially? Or would I need to switch to CarPlay or take the call from the phone instead since my oem BT would be off. There are times where i prefer to use SAT (mountains, no cell signal) im just wondering what if...
    Cheers!

    Great video! I just want to make people aware that buy this that it is very glitchy. I bought and installed the exact same RS Nav system and the wireless Apple CarPlay would work for 5-10 minutes before crashing. This would happen almost daily. I installed this (similar) system in my 2016 Audi Q5 recently and it works as expected.
    I only recently got a OBD11 scanner and scanned the car and it came up with a few faults related to the MMI which I can understand as this unit directly interfaces with it. What I found strange is a fault with both rear door speakers. Unfortunately I cannot say if these faults were there prior to the installation of this CarPlay device. There is definitely no sound coming out of the speakers though.
    Has anyone experienced anything similar?

    Great video and I got my unit installed so it worked just as you described. Question, I have a 2013 RS5 which has the aux cable installed but I can't figure out how to activate it. Do I need to purchase a VCDS tool from Ross-Tech in order to activate it? I don't have a setup and car button. Thanks

      Scott, shoot me an email, (sales@redmistracing.com) not sure what you mean in reference to the setup and car button. The RS5, at least in the U.S., had the Aux input activated from the factory. Other "lesser" models need the VCDS to activate the green screen. I believe Carista can also activate the green screen, possibly OBD Eleven.

      I just looked on Amazon and they have a bunch of different units. Just real quickly, I found this one but do check the compatibility with your particular car. Know they're all made in the same factory but different companies have different software licenses. So make sure it's the correct version for your MMI and it has the features you want. www.amazon.com/Compatible-2010-2019-Multimedia-Wireless-Mirrorig/dp/B0BNJ25XW7/ref=sr_1_9?crid=1UNH2VXO14T4&keywords=Wireless%2Bcarplay%2BAudi%2BS5&qid=1689949455&sprefix=wireless%2Bcarplay%2Baudi%2Bs5%2Caps%2C195&sr=8-9&th=1

    Just stumbled on this while I'd been browsing these units elsewhere.....
    May I ask- these units seem to be either/or, in that they either allow the user to use CarPlay, or the installed MMI. Not both simultaneously. Have I got that right? Only, I often like to listen to the inbuilt radio while navigating; if I was in CarPlay mode, the inbuilt radio would be unavailable I think?
    Thanks- great video.

    • @RS5Fanatic
      @RS5Fanatic  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I honestly don't know as I haven't listened to the radio in 10 years or more! I'd just use Google Maps, Apple Maps, Waze, etc...going to be more up to date vs. the OE navigation. But the entire MMI is still "launched" and you can toggle back and forth between the two with the press of the NAV button. So it's in the background. Assuming, as long as the radio is selected, it'd work with CarPlay operational.

      Modern electronics are fairly robust these days, based on what I'm hearing with the larger screens are just fine. Any electronic product can fail, no matter how complicated, or uncomplicated it is. If it's a big worry, then the unit I installed uses all the factory components including the screen.

    Alright I’ve got some questions...
    First and foremost my AMI was never showing up as available even with the cable in it.
    My CarPlay still worked. However it would pause my music when trying to give me turn based directions but there was no voice. Guessing this has something to do with the Bluetooth segment of this video?
    Lastly, at some point during my drive the audio for my music dropped out after I received some texts and I couldn’t get it back.
    Lastly, CarPlay is supposed to read incoming texts isn’t it?

    • @RS5Fanatic
      @RS5Fanatic  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you do not have an RS5, chances are your aux cord needs to be "activated" in the green screen menu (google that!). The turn by turn directions...need to turn off the Audi Bluetooth on the car. Last point, yes, it'll read texts to you and you can even respond with voice!
