Steve's answer to the last question is IMHO the best answer everybody should listen to, and not only those involved with music. Thank you for your inspiring response, Steve!
I learned more in this interview than in any other long internet research about sound design. Thanks Pyramind and Steve Duda! I`m definitely applying for Pyramind, feel like its one of the best choices in the World for who wants to study audio production.
out of 25,987 views, 9 of those persons are idiots! This person is actually a genius! I've been studying/rehearsing production and mixing and/or mastering. And still every time I hear Steve talk (on new vids to me on TH-cam) there is always something new to learn from him! Great guy!
Six years too late in the commentary section, but hey at least I learned much info I hadn't before, so great job and these were the best three hours of learning in my life ever. Been watching so many tutorials and explanations about audio interaction, in mixing and mastering. Duda is such a great teacher and he knows his homecourt.
well i was talking about steve. i do agree with what your saying to a degree but you know, its life, everybody at different places. i tend to just find it more funny than anything. i wouldn't say it puts me off listening to his music, there are other places to find the info he leaves out on. we aint all born lover's :)
38:13 if i got it right, every tempo has a specific key that works with it in a way. does anyone know where to find this table of bpm to key or whats the way to find it out for each tempo? I didnt get the 128 bits duplicating thing and not sure how to phrase the question for google ;/ damn this guy is smart. missing some of the more technical things he gets into but good info thx!
Crazy how he mentions that every TEMPO or BPM has a corresponding KEY. This is a theory I came up with on my own and its great to see BIG MINDS like Duda also on that thought train .
'Funkagenda - One day at a time' is awesome. Imo a good example of a track you want to hear loud. Was 5 seconds in and had to crank up the volume. Great Talk and interesting questions from the audience.
*How to get the key for a given tempo:* Figure out how long a 128th note is in seconds. Divide 1 by that number, which will give you the frequency in Hertz of repeated 128th notes. Figure out the closest note and you've got the key for the tempo. (Works with other subdivisions of powers of 2 too (giving you different octaves of the same note), but around 128th notes you're getting into audio range with the frequencies, so you could actually hear that as a tone) Note: You might have to adjust the tempo to hit the exact frequency if you want to be accurate enough for the no-phase-shift trick between kicks and a constant bass note that he mentions. For that you can also invert the calculation and figure out a tempo given the key.
fuckin brilliant guy no doubt! and his serum jumped into the best 3 v.a. arount just out of the blue. also great at 'making you understand things' go steve... you deserve a big career in music and coding!
He didn't really explain why he adds some width (108% or so) on utility on the master track. If all that does is make the stereo content louder (this is the stuff that will cancel in mono effectively) then what's the point? It will sound "more stereo" in stereo but switch to mono and now your whole track seems quieter because the louder stereo content is gone. Any idea why he'd recommend that?
He talked about it when explaining dimension expander before and it's that he doesn't the extra stereo stuff there when it's sum to mono anyway basically
moderator keeps making sure the talk doesn't get too personal when there is an actual connection happening between audience and steve duda. maybe there was time pressure.. sadly.
I would of honestly listened to another 8 hours easily! Thanks for all of this great "knowledge" Steve.
Extremely useful information. Extremely intelligent individual. 3 hours wasn't enough!
Steve's answer to the last question is IMHO the best answer everybody should listen to, and not only those involved with music. Thank you for your inspiring response, Steve!

Informative and inspirational! Excellent video series!
So much useful knowledge.
The lack of views saddens me on this video, because Steve talks about the one thing that really matters, how to be happy.

That was great! Learned so much
Loved the interview.
Does anyone have any resources for the key/pitch and bpm relationships? Highly interesting and would love to learn how to apply this in music.
UHMAZING. Thank you pyramind.
Awesome Steve! Thank you so much! :)

how do you find the right key for the tempo? i don't get how to apply steves explanation. Thanks.
'Funkagenda - One day at a time' is awesome. Imo a good example of a track you want to hear loud. Was 5 seconds in and had to crank up the volume.
Great Talk and interesting questions from the audience.
During this three part workshop, I learned more than I even thought I was.
Such an awesome dude!
best edm advice on ALL the interweb
Anyone knows where i can read more about the "bpm and key harmonic line up" he explains at 38:12
Thank you
38:12 does anybody know the formula to calculate the frequency that belongs to a certain tempo?
I would also like to know, every google search I try just comes up with sites that tell you the key and bpm of popular songs.
Anyone got any info on when Steve mentions quickly towards the end that the tempo of a track will suit a certain scale ? He mentions avicii.
He's such a great dude
7:40 the kick DEFINITELY belongs @ Unit E.
Great mind.
Great tips from Steve!
7:39 Unity, not Unit E :p
I wonder if Steve gives Joel feedback and help on mixing and mastering his tracks still.
Doing rent-to-own Serum because Steve is a badass.
Can someone explain @38:00

didn't know you mixed a lot of funkagendas stuff!!! cool.
+tjmidge love your music!
Vitus Bröse :D
This guy is a genius!
38:12 could anybody please explain this to me?
3ple You are a legend! Thank u so much🙏🙏🙏
3ple then how can you calculate the frequency that works perfectly with the tempo you are in?
3ple Yeah I'll make a comment asking ppl for the formula but maan how do u know all this shit? :D Did you study physics as well or so?
9:58 what is that plugin he is pointing at ? That small one at the bottom that have VU on?
+Limpuls you mean the ableton utility?
The meter is an in-built level meter that Ableton puts before and after every effect
Or maybe you mean the Utility? Ableton native plugin
Duda the dude.
fuckin brilliant guy no doubt! and his serum jumped into the best 3 v.a. arount just out of the blue. also great at 'making you understand things' go steve... you deserve a big career in music and coding!
That Skrillex thing was hilarious haha
Haha, 7:40 "Unit E", nice subtitling ;) megakudos to Steve and Pyramind posting this tho!
There needs to be a Serum for ios or else someone else is going to do it.
