What a simple and elegant design. As you were putting the screws in the hook I thought, "Thank goodness he's using slotted screws." And sure enough you made a point to mention how the small details add or subtract from a design. Thank you!
Excellent video per the norm John! Also I just wanted to thank you for all your past 'tong' videos. Taking your advice I bought the 'Ken's Custom Iron' quick tongs set and have been slowly working through them. Between Ken's and your videos I have spent hours watching and re-watching your videos in slo-mo trying to glean every detail. Thank you so much for all your efforts and videos!
Those small squares are so handy.. I have had one for over a couple of decades (I use it in my cabinet making mostly) Great tool to have.. Thanks again John good show.. carry on!
Once again, great video John. I know you always think safety first, but I think I can speak for everyone when I say forget the camera shot if it means you are a bit uncomfortable or maybe not as safe as you normally are. We love these videos so we need you.
Nice one, my wife and I really enjoy watching hook of the week with a nice cup of coffee and a couple of dogs curled up on the couch next to us. It is a great way to spend our Sunday Mornings. Thank you for what has become a family tradition.
I only recently came across your channel but I haven't missed an episode since. I love the voice, the look, the presentation... everything. It's like watching an old home improvement or wood working show like This Old House or something. I like all the information you give and you explain the processes involved. Keep it up! Don't change a thing.
Love hook of the week, maybe expanding to similarly useful household objects for variety? Us starting blacksmiths can always use small projects to develop our skills, and helps to have a useful thing too have in the house to remind us to get out too the shop. Drawer handles, kitchen tools, etc.
Cant wait till you hit the 100k mark. The family loves watching your high quality content and I really enjoy the DIY tools/ideas that you show. Thanks and stay safe.
Yet another brilliant but simple hook. Two of those would be superb for hanging ladders up or other big items. Thanks for all the ideas John I just love hook of the week.
My Sunday mornings... A cup of coffee with me on the love seat watching hook of the week. Too bad its sooooo windy, I really want to fire up the forge. Ive got to get my forge inside! John, you are an inspiration, thank you. John D in Oklahoma.
This is cool. I made a hook this style awhile back, althought its a tad shorter with a split top and split bottom. Having that chiseled edge in the middle is a really neat effect. I tried a couple variations in the hook profile, but found the straight one looked right
omg chisel cuting steel reminds me of this summer...when i made three gauntlet peaces(did a pretty craptacular job at it) with using only hammer, chisel and big hammer as anvil...
Nicely done hook John! It has a simple elegance about it. I definitely agree with providing fasteners with projects I personally like brass round head screws on blackened steel projects. Kinda gives it a little "Pop".
Would be great in a barn for holding tack. It would fit a 4x4 or 6x6 post really well. You could even do the same thing out of a section of round pipe to fit on round posts or to beams in log cabins. Or take the same thing and forge the backing plate over a piece of pipe to shape it.
I see a door handle if you don’t cut out the top of the hook. Door handle or pull. Also I like the screws from blacksmith bolt the product is really nice and great people to deal with.
Very nice simple hook. I am going to try my new handled cutting chisel. John would you show us your selection of chisel that were on the table. I would like to see the different ones.
I was thinking the same, just cutting the two long sides and bowing out the center. Maybe even cutting one long side and cupping it out like a drawer pull?
I like that design! I do have to disagree with one thing lol all though the slotted head screws are aesthetically pleasing man do I hate them slipping off and marring work is always a concern ::{
Interesting. The idea was to show whats coming up in hopes people would want to see the whole video. Sort of like a TV show that does a "coming up in tonight's episode of....." intro
@@BlackBearForge Ya I'm not fond of seeing what you will be making ahead of time either. Kinda spoils the surprise, but I will still watch because part of the video appeal is you sharing your knowledge, and your kinda fun to watch tool
While I do approve ads to run on the videos, I don't have any input as to what those ads might be. So what you see is out of my control. If you are suggesting video creators put time and money into producing videos that help you learn or simply entertain you but then not be compensated for that time, expense and experience, then you should probably quit watching TH-cam. But both the comment and the thumbs down are seen by TH-cam as audience interaction, so thank you for improving my video statistics.

My favorite hook so far. A pair would be brilliant for holding my shop broom

Glad you are enjoying the series
You know when hook of the week is slowly wearing down John when he says "I have no idea what this hook is for" :D

Wind is a real problem sometimes..
I love your videos. Very enjoyable and seems like good practical advice.

Very useful hook, I need to get busy. Thanks John.
Great looking hook John good way to hang my fishing rods ,I really need to get the plans for your treadle hammer it would be great week end project .
I think it would be cool that your countdown till xmas comes back, I would love to see simple little projects every day
I thought about trying the countdown to Christmas again, but I'm not sure if I can keep up the every day filming and editing right now.
@@BlackBearForge good point, it's just that I bought a coal forge recently, and I wanted some ideas for me to practice, you know, the easy stuff
I made a hook similar to this a few month ago and have been meaning to remake a cleaner version of it. Thanks for reminding me!
As always an awesome job. Look forward to hook of the to see what off the wall idea is made. Grew job
An absolutely perfect “shop hook”👍👍. Could be used in pairs for holding things horizontally also.
Hello John
Quick simple usefull and inspiriering. 👍
I love to see your videos
Have a nice week
Good bless you
Yours Frank
Thanks you Sir,
Again using a asortment of your Blacksmit still so others can be encouraged also to learn.
Thanks
I received my Clay Spencer treadle hammer plans from ABANA on Friday .
Winter project !
Its a good tool. I think you'll enjoy it
What a great idea! Compliments on the lighting and audio as well. Well done.
Very nice hook! Just went to the older video about nuts and bolts... You've improved so much in making videos 👍it's nice to see that.
Thanks, I am glad the effort is showing
Nice hook John, so simple and so good looking too! Thanks for sharing with us.
Thank you for the hook of the week
🙏 Blessings to you
Crawford out ⚒️🧙♂️
Thanks John! You are gonna keep me busy just trying to replicate your hook ideas.
I enjoy the hook of the week. It is great to see the use of your equipment, Thanks
What.....no curly cue on that hook. 😊 Lookin good John.......and looks like you've got a batch of holdfast ready for an order.
The holdfasts are just to keep stock up in the Etsy shop during the holiday season
omg chisel cuting steel reminds me of this summer...when i made three gauntlet peaces(did a pretty craptacular job at it) with using only hammer, chisel and big hammer as anvil...
Air hose, dropcord, rope, if it was longer/ bigger hook a water hose hanger. I like it, the skill & the design.
Nicely done hook John!

Nice hook, you just keep coming up with some great idea's thanks John.
You have an eye for creating a hook out of nothing. Great work sir.
Awesome informational educational video experience Y'alls You have so many different ideas just for making hooks
I like that one. Nice
Nice and effective, well done again John. Great hook up :)
Nice job John. Take care and God bless
Great video John, if i can get my hands on some material big enough I definitely think I'll give this one a go.

Still about 5 weeks I think
Very cool looking hook nice job sir!!!
John another great video. I look forward to what’s next, keep up the great videos.
..Great idea Mr. John!! a smaller version could be used on the upper cabinets as door pulls/ coffee cup and dish towel holder combos
Thanks again John! Blackened screws look great, but I like to use brass screws with hooks, makes it stand out a bit.👍
Brass is a good choice. Its really seeing things like drywall screws that looks out of place
@@BlackBearForge Agreed!
Brass screws are hook bling.
Very nice hook Sir. I kinda find myself missing the part where you select the stock out of the dilapidated old broken down bucket. :)
🤔I'll see what I can do for the next one
As always i like that idea
Great extension cord hook. Maybe even two, made to fit, to hang a weed-eater or chainsaw.
Very nice. Thank you
Beautiful hook. Enjoyed the full making process. Waiting for 100 K mark.
Thanks
@@BlackBearForge john u didnt give me a heart. I kmow its sound kiddish but ur heart makes my day.😊

Very nice!
That's great.
Can’t forget that a striker works good to and there cheap if you got friends
Very nice simple hook. I am going to try my new handled cutting chisel. John would you show us your selection of chisel that were on the table. I would like to see the different ones.
I will try to come up with a project that uses more of those
Black Bear Forge I was just impressed with the holder and figured they were all different and was very impressed. Thank you for all of your videos.
I was thinking 2 could be for a ladder
Good idea
I think that would be a good design for a candle wall sconce.
Interesting idea
I so need to make some tools for my tredle hammer...
That can be a full time job in itself
True.. especially as I need to make some tools to make some tools. Lol
You could use a properly sized hook such as this to hang horse collars.
Could you make a one piece handle the same way? maybe for a gate.
I was thinking the same, just cutting the two long sides and bowing out the center. Maybe even cutting one long side and cupping it out like a drawer pull?
You could.
hi very well dun
How would you go about making those screws?
th-cam.com/video/hr8jU_-JWHc/w-d-xo.html
Thanks for all of your tutorials! What marker do you use?
I use a mechanical welders pencil from Markal
Somewhere to hang your hat, perfect!
Hot filing vs. cold filing, thoughts?
hot for speed, cold for details
I may have missed it but what size stock is that for the hook please John???
1/8” by about 2 1/2” roughly.
@@BlackBearForge Thanks John
The treadle hammer you use. Is it your own design?
It was designed by Clay Spencer. The plans are available through the ABANA web site
I hope you're feeling all right you're looking a little thin these days!
Nice work. I’ve been think of making a treadle hammer, and the style of yours seems to be the best. Did you make it yourself, do you have plans?
I made it from the plans available through ABANA
That hook looks like you could use it to hold a 2x4 to hold a door closed
I think it could easily be adapted for that purpose
I like that design! I do have to disagree with one thing lol all though the slotted head screws are aesthetically pleasing man do I hate them slipping off and marring work is always a concern ::{
