Her "Konzertsatz in F Minor" is one of my favorites.
I don't much like it when Wieck is stuck into her name.She made it clear in a letter to her future husband that she would be happy just to be known as Clara Schumann. I love all her piano works as played by Josef de Beenhouver (spelling?) Special a favourites of mine are the Piano Trio and the Piano Concerto. If I were a concert pianist this work would definitely in my repertoire. Too many lovely works for piano to mention all of them but that Nocturne in F major is a favourite of mine not only in Clara's repertoire but in the whole repertoire for piano
Prejudice against women composers . When I play the cd of Clara's Piano Trio and say It is by Schumann people love it, but the moment I mention the woman's name it kind of drops into oblivion. When I played two fugues one by Clara and the other by Bach on the same theme I asked my class to guess which was by whom and they decided unanimoosly that Bach's Fugue was by Clara and hers by him.......

I’m so glad to hear you’re a fan of Clara Schumann’s music. That’s wonderful! As regards to her name, Clara Wieck was her name for the first 20yrs of her life & was the name printed on her first 11 opuses. I know of no other composer where it would be acceptable to change the name of the composer under which the work was originally published/printed. So I do believe for historical accuracy sake her opuses 1-11 should be listed in programs & texts as by Clara Wieck-Schumann, otherwise it is factually incorrect. Also, of course Clara Schumann loved being a Schumann. She loved carrying her husband’s name, she looked forward to it throughout her engagement with fervor & used it proudly, lovingly all her life. However, there is a distinct diary entry from the week before her marriage “that was my last concert as Clara Wieck & I was sad at heart.” Clara also used “Clara Schumann Geb. Wieck” on many publications & concert posters throughout her marriage & even after. She was very proud of what she achieved as Clara Wieck. It was a name she worked very hard for it to command culture wide, artistic respect internationally. During her life EVERYONE remembered/knew her maiden name, she was THAT famous.
@@claraschumannchannel - I used to have a different Germanic surname, I adopted my mother's surname de Villiers. I wouldn't let anything of mine - even if written at the age of three - be published under any other name.
