  • Got a GoPro Hero 9 off Mrs Tee for Christmas and put it on the helmet alongside my Drift Ghost X. The video shows a good side by side comparison of the output from each camera. The excellent quality from the GoPro shows why its 3x more expensive too.

    It says on the Drift website "The Ghost X is IPX4 rated. This means that you can use it in the rain"
    You cannot use it in the rain, mine died irreparably the minute I used it in the rain and if you look on Amazon there are many 1 star reviews from customers whose Ghost X also completely died when they used it in the rain. And as I and those other people have found the warranty does not cover this.
    A waterproof cover is absolutely essential for this camera. I'm sure this is the reason they upgraded to IPX7 for the Ghost XL.
    What's really galling is that on their website they advertise the Ghost X with a picture of it covered in water drops as if it is being used in the rain.

    Had GoPro hero 9 replaced it with Drift Ghost xl not quite as good video quality but as its more for my own use if involved in rtc the 8+ hour battery life is more important to many trips with GoPro were battery died son has changed to drift I use it as dash am in my car

    The GoPro 9 with the extended battery of the GoPro 11. Best of both worlds.

    I can’t believe Drift haven’t come out with something budget friendly and image stabilisation. I would consider a new affordable Drift with stabilisation or 1080p 60fps, but instead they released Drift Ghost XL SE (snow edition). It’s a change in a colour not an improvement in technology. It’s been a while since last Drift Ghost X, have they run out of ideas? I have been waiting so long for Drift to start moving. They released Drift Ghost X in summer 2018. There is no Drift innovation...

      I'm with you. I love the ease of use of the drift. I love the aerodynamic shape and how it is quite unobtrusive when fitted to my helmet. It's a nice compact size and the battery life is amazing. If there was image stabilisation and 1080p @60fps I probably wouldn't bother with my go-pro.

    It would be better if you adjust both camera horizon to the same level for a fair comparison. Exposing a camera to the sky will darkened the image to compensate the brightness

    Ghost NOT waterproof (it's water resistant) & the GoPro has a short battery life. You just can't win 🤔

    • @yutehube4468
      @yutehube4468 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Exactly. The Ghost has no stabilization either. No one makes a camera that does everything. I'd be happy with a camera that had 1/3 of the battery life of the Ghost, as long as it has image stabilization and is waterproof. Nothing exists. Come on China, look at the gap in the market!

      That's right Paul yes you obviously get more for your money with the GoPro but if anybody just needs a cheap camera to use for commuting or starting off in Vlogging the drift is fine with 1080p and 30fps. Just a shame there's no stabilization.

    I was thinking of the drift because I believe you can pair them if you have 2 which I thought might make things easier when uploading . I noticed the GoPro had a lot less glare to the footage I am waiting until march to take the plunge but I am finding it really difficult to make a choice DJI has put me off with their new modular camera so I am down to these two . good info here now subbed : )

      Thankyou for your comments. Have you considered the insta 360? I need to look into it myself. Battery life isn't really an issue when you can connect to a usb on the bike, connect to an external power pack or do what I do and carry 3 spare batteries from Amazon for the GoPro.

    Although Drift is not leveled, I think that Gopro has better picture. I'm not in favor of super wide angles. Unless it's purposely needed, it makes things farther away and smaller than they really are, giving false impression of distance.
    Other settings are more real.

    • @yutehube4468
      @yutehube4468 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Oh it does, miles better... but the battery life of just 1hr means I won't be getting one. I'd rather have everything shaking around - it's still going to capture what it needs to - some wanker pulling out on me "Didn't see you mate". Only reason I'm looking at getting a camera is because I was knocked off my bike the other night, luckily I was going 5 MPH at the time.

    • @geetee5509
      @geetee5509  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Glad you're okay Yute. You're right though, for purely practical reasons the drift is a better choice. 7 hours battery with the long life one. For quality of picture then the Hero.

    What's the benefits of Drift over just getting a GoPro? Just price? Do they use the same buckle?

    • @geetee5509
      @geetee5509  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      They use a different buckle Jon. GoPro has much better image quality and image stabilization but the battery life on the GoPro is only about 20% of the drift. The drift battery will last over 5 hours and it's my preferred choice if I'm going for a long ride and don't want to keep stopping to change batteries. GoPro is the one to use if quality matters, making a Vlog for example.

    I'm giving up with Drift. I have their excellent Stealth HD170 which I bought many years ago, and recently upgraded to a Ghost X expecting it to be much better...but in fact, it's worse. Very disappointed with the quality of the videos from the Ghost X, its very prone to pixellation and blockyness; my Stena Prism Tube WiFi helmet camera produces much better videos. Your Hero 9 videos look stunning...but do you look like one of the TeleTubbies when its on your helmet? Thanks for the video, I might have to get the Hero 9 and sell off the Ghost.

    • @geetee5509
      @geetee5509  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The Go pro does have a video looping function so it can operate like a dash cam, or maybe you would prefer it's video tagging option. This will save 30 seconds or so of the video that precedes the moment you press record. You see something happen, press record and it has already captured the moments before the action happened.

    • @SlickMotoMike

      A 64gb sd card would record a couple of days commutes for you. Easily enough time to get home and download the info to your pc. In looping mode they are recorded in smaller files, like 5 mins or more and can be sorted by the time of day they were recorded.
