Actually they built the waterfall about a hundred years after the city was established and named. The original waterfall was destroyed in a flood in the 1800s.
I pass through The Falls on my way to Lubbock from the Metroplex and back. I'd like to see some revitalization in the area. There's an incredible amount of potential to have a waterfront district near downtown that could connect to the waterfall attraction, as you've got the Wichita River running near the MPEC. And you've got to stop at McBride's Steakhouse for a great meal there (on Maplewood near Southwest Pkwy). It's the best steak in The Falls.
I appreciate any info people have to share i have family that just moved there. Northern California here in a little hick town ....so its nice to know that its got fun things to do and a good history...how about holidays like Halloween is there anything special they do ?
Thanks for posting. A great town for families - but not so wonderful if you're single or married w/o kids. Entertainment options are pretty limited. Happy Travels.
Actually not named after Wee-chi-ta Indians. Wee-chi-ta is the name the Indians gave it because it means basically knee high water or river. Also the smallest skyscraper is one hell of a story. Its not proven fact but the story is that they person who got the bid to build it actually slipped a huge mistake by the people who wanted it built. What they thought were feet were actually inches. So they built it based off of those plans in inches when the funders were expecting feet. So came about the world's smallest skyscraper. Fun facts
@@travelingwithfaith Absolutely. Just saw some incorrect comments about it and decided as a lifetime resident I should correct it. The skyscraper thing.....quite an interesting story
Don't be fooled by this video! That place is a NIGHTMARE!!! I use to live in Wichita falls, Texas and from first-person experience I can tell you that place is an unsanitary, barren wasteland!
This is hilarious 😂!@! But thanks for embellishing the boring dry Park .....there definitely isn't wildlife in that park.....and thrifting is more exciting than anything else here. And we wichitans don't even like the falls ...it's always brown, dirty, and smells of dead fish . Yuck

You should be investigated for that statement.
Mine too. I am a 1972 model. 😁
My hometown. Moved out many years ago. Still go back for Gene’s Tasty burgers and Pioneer enchiladas.

Why?? We are centrally located between OK City and Ft.Worth. So a quick 1.5 hr drive and you can be anywhere, to anything- Even Lubbock!!
It's a lame an cultureless village but kudos to you!
