Triumph Spitfire 1500 gets a little love, part 1

  • Triumph Spitfire 1500 comes into the shop with a leaking clutch slave cylinder, then the owner pulls out "the list". Loose steering, won't idle, high beams randomly come on while sitting and draining the battery, runs rich, and look it over to see if there's any other issues. Do as much to it as we have time for as he loves driving it and wants it to be as enjoyable as possible

    That is a good point on the brake pads. The size of pad used on Spitfires happens to be the same as the pads used on the rear of some modern cars, but the friction material used is MUCH different and unsuitable for the Spitfires non boosted brakes. Unfortunately many of the parts vendors do not realise this.

      I have seen a number of cars in the shop with either noisy brakes, or that take a ton of pedal effort to stop (very little initial “bite” from the pads) that are fine once the pads are changed. There have been lots of pads out there with a compound that simply doesn’t work well on these cars
