Wood is one of the most durable materials out there, making it a favourite amongst home designers. It saves on time, effort and money in the long run, which would have otherwise been involved in frequent renovation, repair or replacement work of the interior. I'm so glad by your own decisions using your hands with the woods and bamboo too... Congrats as you did take your time to decide by your own decisions with your loved ones how to renovate it more better ways to look and keep the animals safe including you all.

Kudos Ryan and Damo! Planning for the future by investing in more land and a house. Keeping it all in the family as the saying goes. You have time and with the solid wood beams and such that will make it easier/cheaper to renovate... Windows and doors first likely....after clean up. Clean, power wash, check for structural issues, repair or replace roof (dry in), leave temporary stairs till you establish bottom floor grade, in that order. A good investment and great price, Congrats to the 4 of you !

I just moved to Thailand, Korat, now i am looking for a house with some land to rent so i can firstly get a horse, love horses, and have a little garden, and go from there, but its a bit hard finding a place to rent that has land thats within 20 or so km from the city (work location)

Like the Kwai mower more than that push mower! Nice one for 250 K BHT and right near you-all! Part of the old family land! I've seen/worked on worse here; my wife's old place was so eaten by termites that the frame was bowing apart. She wanted to raze it, Nah! I'm far too "Kee Nee-aw Farang" for that, re framed from the inside bit by bit, didn't even need to pull much of the lap siding. A 65 BHT can of spray could have saved 10K BHT of Teak though, get on that ASAP, I could see Termite trails up the walls. Yeah, we raised the old floor too and a good trick it did, keeping the floods out. We're right next to a Khlong so it's no joke. Right, pull that roof, let pros do it, worth the price + the floor, get it nice and tiled. You can pull that siding after the roof, no problem. Could save about 2/3rds of it and just find some more that matches in width. I was able to scrounge up a lot of old Teak here and there for cheap, worth a look around, Looks like your frame is pretty clean for the most part. Hard to tell until you grab a board and it crushes into powder in your hand, eaten to the skin by termites. You may not have to pull much frame, just that siding. Grind off the old nails, sort it through, add some new boards, no problem. I love the little, flat head Phillips screws for that old, Teak siding, tightens it up really nice, 'eff nails.

We’ve just moved in to our new flat on family land here in Bangladesh but we’ve invested in our own ( my husband’s) land in the countryside to grow trees and vegetables and build a small “kampung” house.

Hi, I just discovered you and I am glad to have a good timing with your new property and new story about it. You are fun to watch. I am happy for you that you managed to get this property so important for the family. I am fascinated with your interest in mushrooms and I love Terence McKenna, his books and you tube vids. I was wondering what is the situation with cannabis farming and are you familiar with "hempcrite". I would love to build with it. Is is possible to find similar land like this still today or very hard? If you know of anything around you guys let me know:) I would love to live in a community with nice folks like your family. This price range would be interesting with options to get into farming if I like it down the line.I am a musician by profession. But I love the renovation projects and am into all kinds of reusing of existing materials, straw bale, mud houses, building earth ships etc. And solar can work at lower prices if you know what you doing. As a matter of fact I want to sell energy back and make a living like that if I would have the land to put it on or roofs. You can do passive solar and other alternatives. how are the winds there? Low velocity wind turbines are very cool. For solar you need batteries to make it really work investment wise. Can I make a solar plant on one of those farm lands? So many questions. You have really inspired me. I am in chicago and looking for the place or location. I am into off grid systems and projects. I owned old and renovated property in Chicago and made it a green building. I love this project you are starting. Looking for something just like it. Still any chance to find in that range something similar? I am just little scared of the land laws and complications. Maybe starting a family with Thai partner is not bad idea. they are beautiful people. I also like how you guys are and your hard working wife yet simple and not complicated. And the positive energy. Also very intelligent and happy. Personally I love the food and even Buddhism is something I have been into since teenage years. Psychedelic kid :) So, congratulations on the new property and best of luck with maknig the dream come true ! I am sure it will be beautiful. Cheers!
