- In this episode, Dr. Svoboda discusses the Ishta Devata, or your personal deity that connects you to your center. He gives advice on how you can connect to this energy.
Dr. Robert Svoboda is the first Westerner ever to graduate from a college of Ayurveda and be licensed to practice Ayurveda in India. During and after his formal Ayurvedic training he was tutored in Ayurveda, Yoga, Jyotish, Tantra and other forms of classical Indian lore by his mentor, the Aghori Vimalananda. He is the author of over a dozen books and has served as Adjunct Faculty at the Ayurvedic Institute in Albuquerque, NM, and at Bastyr University in Kenmore, WA.

Jyotish Astrology is so funny. A few years ago I think, I had a dream of climbing a mountain (which was reluctant about because it was very steep, but it was surprisingly easy). I got to the top and there was an open white temple, I walk in and my clothes change into white linens and I find a living Lakshmi. I’m sort of in awe when I stand in front of her, and then suddenly I turn around and there’s a man, really angry stepping towards me who then stabs me and then I woke up. I didn’t think too much of it, I thought it was strange, maybe because I used to talk to a picture of Lakshmi as a child at my school in the play waiting room we were sent to if our parents were late to pick us up.
A month ago I decide to download an app on Jyotish astrology out of curiosity, and I find out according to my chart, my soul planet is Venus and one of my Ishta Devatas is apparently, Lakshmi. 😂funny thing Karma, huh?

QUESTION: Robert, if you find a God or a Goddess whose shlokas inspire you awe, serenity and a sort of blooming love(not yet the highest form of Bhakti or Divine Mad love as Si Ramakrishna describes) but starts developing a gradual feeling of love inside you towards He or She and also grants you miracles, is that your Ishta Devata? Even though the only moment you connect with each other is through the Shloka?

Namaste Svobodhaji! So many sheaths of consciousness and so many layers of powerful devatas 🙏. Their blessings are really needed under these reality of limitations. I feel one should respect the differences and art in prakriti as purusha is always constant and he experiences all yagnas and there is no differences in him. So the differences makes all colors purusha experiences. Then a lingering question in mind arrises, would there be any side effects if a person makes even his not so good deeds as yagna and it's the subsequent remanants? Also sir, if one has sankata yoga in horoscope, what may be the pariharas that may be best suited for him?

Thank you so much! I have one question. I love paintings and I painted a woman a Goddess, I gave her different powers. I love the creativity behind it because it flows from my Heart. What do you think about it?
NOTE: I also have my own ideas about how to connect with her, and which rituals to do. I even received a mantra in my dream (one year before) and I think I found a meaning for it now with this Goddess. Do you think it can be my fantasy or I should believe my intuition and listen to where it wants to take me?

He would have been a priest in his previous birth in india
He was the son of Aghori Vimalananda in his previous birth. He died at a young age, was reborn in US, came to India, met Vimalananda again and became his disciple. It's written in his Aghora book series.

An astrologer recently told me that godess Tara would work best for me, based on my chart. I don't know much about her or the ways to pray to her being a grihastha. Any pointers to where I can begin looking will be appreciated. There are no temples of hers in South India.
Tara belongs to the 10 mahavidyas .And she has a temple in West Bengal. It is called Tarapith.
