I like the new presentation/video format, style ... all you need in the 1st 5mins ... then honest opinions in more detail after, keep up the good work matey !
Looks great thanks for posting, will definitely be replacing my einhell kickback monster with this. Was saving for an Axminster but mainly for a lot of the features found here so you've saved me a bit cheers!
I've pre-ordered this table saw and ordered some saxton blades that are flat tooth and made for the evolution saw without reducer rings. These are supposed to be 2.9mm and not 6mm like the cmt but they are 255mm so even with a sled you have higher cutting capacity. Will have to do more laps when grooving/dadoing but you can leave it there for everything else.
I really enjoyed your video. I purchased one today and get it delivered tomorrow. I bought the plus and got a discount of 5% from evolution and am looking forward to setting it up. Thanks again and glad to see you looking well.
Seems like a solid machine with good features. I like to see more on dust extraction system. I have the rage 5s and it throws dust everywhere even with a shopvac connected. Thank you for a great review.
Take a look at Small Barn Workshop which should answer your dust extraction questions and then some th-cam.com/video/yjMp_ALYIMw/w-d-xo.htmlsi=U86SeUSlUa7NZqAe
Hi Dean, Evolution are sending me this saw to help me with a few workshop alterations, so I though I had better have a look around to see what videos are out on them already. Yours came up first and I'm so glad it did. You have a wonderful presenting style which also comes across as being very honest and personal. I have subscribed :D
Loved the vid, I have an evolution pull down saw and I am constantly amazed at it, makes life so much easier, I'm just a diy'er and therefore cannot justify me buying one, but after watching this I'm tempted, cheers👍
I’ve just bought the + model (which is due for delivery this afternoon!) It’s my first table saw and I promised myself one when I retired (which is imminent) I bought it on your review too. It’s for my ‘new’ workshop……..
Solid honest review. I'm building a workshop (large shed) in a couple of months and was pretty much sold on the Rage 5 S but now it'll defiantly R255 TBL+, hopefully you're affiliate link still works then as a want the table saw and an Evolution mitre saw when the time comes, thanks.
Thanks, I’m glad you liked it, good luck with the workshop, I’m going to be making a bunch of videos about my conversion of the garage to a workshop soon 😁
A very good review Dean, good to see you back 👍. I've seen a few reviews of this saw now, all positive and I think Evolution have a winner with these, they should sell well. Very similar in several aspects to my Dewalt 7485.
Was saving up for a rage 5 then this came up your video and the review from the small barn workshop made the decision simple thanks Dean big upgrade from my Aldi Schepach hope the move hasn’t left you too out of sorts 👍
Hi Dean hope your well, looks a decent table saw, the good weigh out the bad and very good for the workshop and the DIYer, Brushed motors are good but can be noisy, plenty of out put with a 1.65 Kw motor. a good honest review and great video mate, Take care
Glad to see you back. This saw seems very similar to the Skil job site saw for sale in the US. I’d rather have the sliding bed and metal throat plate on the evolution over the integrated legs on the Skil any day.
Hi Dean, welcome back. I have the Rage 5s which I will now be selling & going for the R255 TBL+ plus model. However, I noticed that the riving knife was very high & although mentioned, we never got to see the the crown guard. Great first impressions, well done.
It seems I forgot to add that bit in the edit! The crown guard is fairly straight forward and nothing overly special. The riving knife is high for it, but in the manual it showed the riving knife can be lowered - I don’t know if mine doesn’t because it’s not the plus, or because it’s pre-production, but I wasn’t able to speak to Evolution about it due to Easter. I’ll update when I know more though
Your video was the final nudge I needed to make my mind up.. Saw arrived today and it is all the excellent things you mention. Absolutely over the moon with. it. Thanks for the advice. The only tiny letdown is the Evolution say their Zero Clearance Throat Plate is not expected before October/November. 3rd party plates are available on ebay (plastic) but I think I. will wait for the real thing.
Thank you for your review. Since I need it ONLY for metal cuttung, Evolution is the only Brand I could find with low RPM table saw's for metal. I could only find Festool table saw with variable rpm. But Festool has a whole different price. I will get the new R255 when It will be avaliable in EU. (Currently only UK) Thanks, your review helped me a lot.
Welcome back Dean. Nice review on a desirable bit o gear. Still sounds like a gun shot at start up. As I'm only 1 year into the Rage 5-s, it'll be a few years before I can justify the cost of a new saw. Take care & stay safe.
The 5s is still a solid saw, and its challenges can definitely be worked around. There’s also loads of TH-cam videos about making them better as they’ve been so popular - the router insert is a great mod by the looks of it
Thanks for the review. I had the email yesterday at 10:00 saying they're back in stock. Couldn't buy it fast enough, not dispatching until mid-July though. It only appeared to have 20 available to pre order and ran out by about 2ish
Excellent review i am looking for my first ever table saw to help me with my DIY and will be looking into purchasing one of these Thankyou for a great review it has helped me a lot 👍
Except the sliding tray and a 2,54mm bore, I'm quite surprised how close this saw is compared to the Rutlands !!! Same fence with two positions, rack and pinions, motor alignment screw, rising and beveling wheel, chassis, many things indeed… That said, I'm an Evolution fan boy as I own a Rage 5S since 2021 !
I just have a little hobby shop and am now looking to upgrade my Ryobi table saw which to be honest is pretty much a crap beginners saw at best. I had ordered a Skill saw but something got messed up on the delivery. Maybe that’s a good thing. While the Skill gets great reviews I love a few features on this baby. Now you review a pre production saw. I’m hoping maybe what I’ll get might have a few more improvements . I saw a review on other older models and those saws were crap in comparison. Thank you for the good video. I’m convinced this will work for me better than the red saw.
Rage 5s owner here. I'd love the new + model but it's not justified. I've removed my 5s from the stand and fixed it onto the end of my workbench which is what i'd do with a new one. Evolution have packed in some features and improvements with this new saw and for a more than competitive price. You're looking well Dean, glad everything is coming together. 👌🏻
Dean, glad to see you. NIce review. However, I thought we were doing rehabs on good old saws; what's up? Nice review. Well you throw around 300 mil and then a 1/1000 of an inch...what? Your point about the dado blade is well taken. The good news for you is that you can take one of your table saws and install the dado blade as a semi-permanent solution. Once I can afford another saw, this is what I plan on doing. It only depends then on what thickness of lumber one works with to make the initial set-up.
@@WoodworkJourney Dean, you're absolutely correct and I did hear you say it at the very end of the video, so I'm sorry I prematurely hit the send button. Also, I, too, am bilingual. I speak both good and bad English. Have a great day and keep up the good work!
Hi Dean nice to see you I think what would be good is if you could buy the sliding mitre slot to fit to the rage 5s so you could use different mitre gauge
Thanks, you can use whatever mitre gauge you want on the 5s as well, you just have to make or buy a different size mitre bar to the standard. I’m sorry pleased they used standard size on this one though. Ironically I’ve had cast iron top table saws with non standard mitre slots as well and that’s super annoying
@RPserge you cant fit dado blades to saw tables imported to the UK. The reason is our health & safety executive consider them too dangerous for use on saw tables intended for non professional use. Dado blades are available but only for professional saws with electric breaking and other refinements. Imported saws do not have arbours long enough to allow dado blade fitting. If they made saws with longer arbours and a dado blade was fitted, resulting in injury, the saw manufacturer would be liable. Therefore they play safe. The alternative saws cost thousands and usually require 3 phase power.
Nice 'first impressions' vid, Dean 👍 Look forward to the more in-depth review and the others but, what with everything else going on, remember to pace yourself and take it easy. Just a thought on the non-magnetic surface and magnetic accessories - presumably you could attach a suitably-sized, magnet-friendly, metal plate to a mitre-slot runner and/or t-bar clamp(s) and once firmly in position, attach those accessories to that plate? Wouldn't be a solution for everything or every situation but might be useful for things like magswitch feather boards and the like.
The long term review will definitely be after a fair few months of use so not rushing that bad boy! Good idea about using the mitre slots, but to be honest there are other mechanical options that use those better. The magnet is just helpful because it can go anywhere
It’s a shame it doesn’t ship with the 90 degree exhaust elbow. My plus version shipped with the splitter attachment. Great video. You are the reason I bought mine
Hello Dean! Nice one to watch for an introduction to your channel, so a new sub here, thank you for sharing this pre-production review… 👍🏻 I would really like to upgrade from my existing Metabo to take advantage of the many things it is missing, but cannot justify to SWMBO… 😜 Anyway, I now look forward to watching your development of the new workshop with interest, hope it all goes well… 😉
Highlight that it upgrades safety in the workshop and ask her if she likes her other half having all their fingers lol Thank you, and I hope you enjoy the channel!!
Seems like the very popular Dewalt saw that is a good chunk more than this saw and has me looking at the new cast top Laguna that has come up for £1100 has serious competition here! Looking at the upper spec one being listed at £450 this seems excellent value. Would love to know how easy getting the blade aligned with the mitre slots is as that always seems to be the toughest bit with these site saws. Can’t wait for the future videos as this is a serious contender for a workshop addition!
Super easy on this saw, there’s an adjuster just for that job. The Dewalt and Laguna are apples to oranges though, site saws like these still offer great value but not comparable to a cabinet saw
@@WoodworkJourney I know the Laguna is a different beast but the price step from the Dewalt to that is the same as the difference between this and the Dewalt making this a very attractive option to see if a table saw is a tool I will use a lot or not.
That is a very nice table saw, Dean! Has lots of features my Bosch GTS 10 J doesn't have. Good to see you back in the shop again, nice to hear the bungalow is getting along also. Hope your moving in goes well too!
Following yours and another Video on this I am looking at getting one. As they have sold out I am waiting for an email to tell me they are back in stock.
Would be interesting to see a side by side review/comparison with the Rutland which is essentially identical except the Evo has the added sled but the Rutland has a stronger motor I think? And it is slightly cheaper, I like the riving knife feature on the Evo as with ones that require removing bolts I tend to never put them back once I've had it off and lost it (raked the weeds out of the patio with it), with the £30 or so price difference and my experience with the blade on my Evo chop saw I think I might get the Evo over the Rutland, seems a no brainer really but without seeing them side by side you never know which is out on top with precision and overall work load handling.
Hi Dean, nice review - thanks. Looks like they have improved a couple of issues that I struggled with. Do you have any idea when this new model will be available in Australia?
I have just made a sled for my new RD saw(the one on the video) but it doest run smoothy because the grooves on the saw surface are not parallel with each other, they are just over 1mm out. It the part of the table that slides adjustable to move siseways to get into line with each other (more parallel) Or will a sled with just one runner be ok? Thanks.
You have no idea as to how relieved I am to see you with a decent and safer to use table saw.... One thing you didn't mention was a blade guard. Does it have one?
Hi Dean, Nice saw and nice review. Do you have to buy Evolution's blades only to have waranty on the product ( Just as the Rage 5S )? Does waranty works with blades from Bosch/Freud or CMT or others ? I agree that there are some differences ( motor's RPMs, arbor size- not a good idea for me ) but there are a lot of things in common with SKIL or ERBAUER. If it doen't come from the same factory in China, it's just coming from next door's factory...😂😂😂
Nice saw overall but I have one problem with Evolution tools.. It's their Disc Bore Size they use (25,4mm) as I remember. I have miter saw from Evolution and it was paint in but to switch to other saw blades... I had to use some reduction ring which wasn't that stable at all as proper size bore blade. I see same saw blade here which probably mean the same problem.. They force you to purchase they branded blades for it. Beside that it does not have stop brake and that blade spins way way too long after cut of the power. It's not safe. But you mentioned it's a pre-production model so hopefully they will include some brake stop in final build.
I mentioned in the video that adapter rings are necessary for normal bore blades, and that’s fine as the large washer before the nut holds the blade and that’s outside if the reduction ring
Had an Evo miter saw for a while and changing the blades with the smaller bore was a pain and never felt secure. It's the only thing I wouldn't be that happy about as otherwise this saw looks great.
Absolutely, I wanted to use the existing blade in the first impressions as that’s what most people will do, but i do talk about changing it out with the adapter rings. Brushed motor though means it’s never going to be much quieter
In the same boat mate, hopefully they are available here sometime soon hey. Definately gonna hold off, this looks much better than the current/ old model.
Help required. I have just got the R255tdl+ delivered and when I lower the blade it rattles on the cog but it is very smooth when I lift it up. Does anybody know what the problem is? I have not used it yet, I haven't even plugged it in
@@WoodworkJourney i missed them they closed 5 minutes before I rang them. I will ring them on Monday but I just wondered if It was a bold or something that needed tightening that anybody knew about. I just want to use it over the weekend but I will have to wait.
Hey Dean, does the fence offer the same cutting capacity if you move it over to the left of the blade? Does the rack and pinion system go the same distance the other way? For some reason I feel much safer doing stuff over that side so I can be out of the way of any kickback but still use my right hand easily to push stuff through the cut.
I prefer the longer more in depth reviews - especially with the chapters feature - if youre in a hurry you can cherry pick the parts of interest. Great vid though.
Ciao, sono Stefano, italiano, questa tua presentazione mi incuriosisce tanto da voler farti qualche domanda: I settaggi e il piano come sono? Dimensioni della macchina? da lama con e senza estrazione o prolunga? Grazie❤
It’s ok, we can disagree, newbies are already concerned about the spinning death machine, they don’t need lights to dim and the sound of a meteor crash to be reminded of that IMO
If you ignore a few extra bells and whistles, or don’t need them, this looks very similar (if not the same) base model as the cheaper Rutland table saw!
Are they made in the UK? I know the HQ is based in Sheffield but unable to work out if this product is made there or if they have outsourced production to China or elsewhere? I want to purchase British made products but so hard to find out from all the tool suppliers which products are and are not British made. Maybe an idea for future blog?
I believe the evolution company is UK but the product is manufactured in China. I’ve talked about UK made stuff in the past and unfortunately very few tool makers still manufacture here. I don’t believe there’s a UK company that manufactures machinery like table saws, bandsaws, pillar drills etc any more. I love old UK made machinery but they mostly require renovation etc which can be costly. Currently though, the UK has a couple of companies for hand saws and a few manual tools, but no big stuff as far as I’m aware sadly, I think Record Power may have been the last to manufacture here. Sadly it’s just not cost effective to produce here any more.
Great review. For me it is a bit overpriced as it must compete against the Metabo which has better build quality and a lower price and the Rutlands machine which is again cheaper.
I get where you’re coming from. I haven’t tried the Metabo or Rutlands, but they are different to this, so I guess it depends on what you want with regards to features and after sales
@@WoodworkJourney The evo, Rutland and Skil all appear to be pretty much the exact same base model. To me the Rutland appears the best value although (anecdotally) their customer service is not the greatest. I will say Evolution do provide excellent customer service at least.
Only problem with rack and pinion is this - if it’s not on your saw already then good luck buying it as an add on upgrade - the price of just a rack and pinion is over the cost of some brand new decent table saws- I know from having had a Hyundai table saw and a Einhell that the add on is more costly than both brand new - how can these add ons justify such a steep price? It’s not massively complicated to make so why price out hobby users? I would love one but can’t justify spending £200 on literally just a rack and pinion ……..
I like the new presentation/video format, style ... all you need in the 1st 5mins ... then honest opinions in more detail after, keep up the good work matey !

Unfortunately you can't get these in Australia it's a pity you're review has me wanting one.
Thanks.
Did they ever release the zero throat plate?
Decent review, thanks. Question, can you share the amazon link for 6 mm CMT blade, us it compatible with rage 5s table saw?
Will do once I’ve tested it :)
Hi, please can you share the link to buy the 6 mm table saw blade. Thanks
Thanks mate.
Hi. Great video. Is the any chance you could tell me the physical dimens of the table, im a tad restricted to storage space!
That's a really nicely speced saw. Great vid! :)
Thanks!
Does it take a dado set thanks 🎉🎉🎉
Thanks for the review. Is this the plus version?
You have no idea as to how relieved I am to see you with a decent and safer to use table saw.... One thing you didn't mention was a blade guard. Does it have one?
Yes it does, it seems I forgot to add that clip in the edit, isn’t anything special but it’s there
Hi Dean, Nice saw and nice review.
No idea about the blade thing, is surprising if that’s the case, hopefully someone from Evolution will clarify
Hey Dean, what is the footprint of the four feet on the base to give me an idea of the minimum size of board necessary to bolt this down
Nice saw overall but I have one problem with Evolution tools..
Also I’ve had old saws that take WAY longer to slow down, but as I mention in the video, the + model has the slow start and e brake
Had an Evo miter saw for a while and changing the blades with the smaller bore was a pain and never felt secure. It's the only thing I wouldn't be that happy about as otherwise this saw looks great.
Nice copy of the dewalt 7492 with some improvements and cheaper… I just bought the Dewalt a couple of months ago. If i had known…
I have the Rage 5s, is it worth me spending the ££££ to upgrade.
Change the blade for a better one, that'll make a huge difference to the volume, that looks like a multi purpose blade too.
Absolutely, I wanted to use the existing blade in the first impressions as that’s what most people will do, but i do talk about changing it out with the adapter rings. Brushed motor though means it’s never going to be much quieter
pre production model you say ? this model is not available in Australia so i will hold off buying a Rage 5s until they are
They’ve been available in the UK since the video came out, but I know they’ve often run out of stock so I imagine they’ll get over there soon!
In the same boat mate, hopefully they are available here sometime soon hey. Definately gonna hold off, this looks much better than the current/ old model.
Whats the dust extraction like? Seems pitiful on most saws despite the extraction system used.
Hi, do you think it is possible to mount blades with a cutting width of 3.2 mm like industrial CMT blades?
Yes with an adapter, I use a 6mm kerf CMT blade with one. It does however invalidate your warranty for the saw
Hi, where shall I bye this table saw, Lidl? Parkside articles is not in standard sortiment. I try google
My + version arrives in 2 days time
Help required. I have just got the R255tdl+ delivered and when I lower the blade it rattles on the cog but it is very smooth when I lift it up. Does anybody know what the problem is? I have not used it yet, I haven't even plugged it in
Speak directly to Evolution, they’re very good and will sort you out
@@WoodworkJourney i missed them they closed 5 minutes before I rang them. I will ring them on Monday but I just wondered if It was a bold or something that needed tightening that anybody knew about. I just want to use it over the weekend but I will have to wait.
I have just opened mine. Have have exactly the same issue. Did you manage to resolve it?
@@neilcorcoran3572 I contacted them and altered a few things, and it improved a lot. Their customer services are very helpful; just give them a ring.
It does not I’m afraid
@@WoodworkJourney Ah that’s a shame, thanks for the reply though.
I prefer the longer more in depth reviews - especially with the chapters feature - if youre in a hurry you can cherry pick the parts of interest. Great vid though.
Cheers
Hi Dean, quick question for you. My Rage 5S has just died on me. Wondering if you think I should upgrade or stick to the track saw?
Ooh… wonder if the brushes need replacing! 🤔
Ciao, sono Stefano, italiano, questa tua presentazione mi incuriosisce tanto da voler farti qualche domanda:
I settaggi e il piano come sono?
Dimensioni della macchina? da lama con e senza estrazione o prolunga?
Grazie❤
At this price point, is it better to purchase a Bosch??
I’ve not tried the Bosch so don’t know the features
Hard start is a good thing to have on a table saw. You should be afraid every time you turn it on. Certainly not a tool to be complacent with!
It’s ok, we can disagree, newbies are already concerned about the spinning death machine, they don’t need lights to dim and the sound of a meteor crash to be reminded of that IMO
it looks like the same modle that rutlands do (apart from the sliding table) and that one is under £300 also the excel which is under £200
If a hippo has bigger ears would it be an elephant?
@@WoodworkJourney just an obsevation as ive been looking for a new table saw but your reply did make me smile
If you ignore a few extra bells and whistles, or don’t need them, this looks very similar (if not the same) base model as the cheaper Rutland table saw!
As I said in the video, it is not the same
@@WoodworkJourney True, it’s not the same - it’s got a few extra bells and whistles and a different label..!
I've just bought the saw but noticed there alot of play in the sliding fence, flexing up and down anyone else have this issue
What about dust extraction?
I don’t have a vac in the workshop at the moment until I move my other workshop into this one. I’ll test it then
Are they made in the UK?
👍
The discount code doesn’t work anymore :(
😍
That's a DeWalt in disguise, Dean
I’m really Batman
🦇🤣
Nice video but miss the vape stuff
Pretty sure it’s the same as when I stopped lol
Seems they have thought of most things, but shame not upgraded to induction motor.
That would have been amazing
Its almost identcal to the Rutlands R1618

Thanks for the link, that defo made my mind up about the Rutlands and Yep, the evolution is way better and for not much more.
I will say Evolution do provide excellent customer service at least.
this or the Rutlands. hmm
If I'm correct the Rutland is £100 cheaper and has a 2000w motor
They’re different saws, so I guess it depends on what features you want, customer service, long term support etc
So it’s the same saw Rutland selling with a different name
Nope
Sadly only 3mm cut in metal while the old Rage S5 can cut 6mm.
I noticed you mention in a comment you have a pre production model... It sounds like this was given to you , in which case you need to declare this.
Like I did at 19.30 in the video?
@@WoodworkJourney The words of the CMA "are must be clearly labelled as an Advert or ad."
@@supernoodle48 it’s a review not an advert or ad
Only problem with rack and pinion is this - if it’s not on your saw already then good luck buying it as an add on upgrade - the price of just a rack and pinion is over the cost of some brand new decent table saws- I know from having had a Hyundai table saw and a Einhell that the add on is more costly than both brand new - how can these add ons justify such a steep price? It’s not massively complicated to make so why price out hobby users? I would love one but can’t justify spending £200 on literally just a rack and pinion ……..
That is a bit like saying the only problem with gears in a car is they’re expensive to fit to an automatic.
