    Beautiful car! Glad you got it converted to 12 volts. If you ever have an issue with your heater core a 1979-1987 chevy truck heater core is a good fit. Enjoy your ride!

    Back in the late '60s my neighbor had a '52 Chevy hardtop, 283CI with a 3/4 cam and I can still hear that 283 when he came home late at night.

    Well that was a little disappointing. I though it was a video about how to convert 6 to 12 volt system.

    Beautiful chevy! I've never done a 12v conversion. Always wondered if all the lights and other electrical operated equipment [like the radio] would require replacing?

    • @GenerationOldschool
      @GenerationOldschool  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not replacing but you will need a voltage reducer for the radio. My radio doesn’t work so I didn’t put a voltage reducer from 12 to 6 volts. Is just there for looks

    There is no need to convert to 12 volts. Just use the proper 1 gauge battery cables, and a Group 2 or larger battery, and you will be fine. You can use an 8 volt battery if you wish, you just have to re-adjust the regulator. The automakers went the 12 volts as a cost save more than as an upgrade.

    VERY NICE!!!!!!
    Talk about a survivor, this one takes the cake. How did you happen to be in the right place at the right time for this one?
    If you would like to get that radio back to working, my neighbor is an electronics repair guy ( not his business just a hobby ) that is very good at what he does. Let me know and we can get in touch.
    One other thing is that a bungee cord holding the battery in place. I'm guessing that's not original equipment. LOL
    Regardless, its still a fantastic original find.👍🙂👍

    '50 Chevys were already negative ground, so putting in an alternator isn't a problem. Generators didn't care whether a system was negative or positive ground, but with an alternator, it needs to be negative ground.

    I have the exact same car except mine is the powerglide with the blie flame 6, all original with 40200 original miles as of today. I want to do a 12volt conversion, but don't know exactly what I need. Can you help me out with what you did? It was my dad's car, he was a mechanic so he knew how to go about it, but he died of covid in 2020, and I'm just getting the heart to drive it without him.

    The rear bumper guards are not the stock bumper guards they're what's left of the accessory bumper guards you're missing the crossbar your oil filter is not original also that's an add-on most likely inner line bramd
