I think that’s the main problem with it. I LOVED 3D World when it came out, even if it was on the Wii U, and even then, I didn’t even think the Wii U was that bad! Especially with Wonderful 101 with that one level where you need the game pad in order to see through the smoke and find the enemies and secrets. I sometimes even go back and play 3D world when I don’t have anything to play and try to get what I couldn’t when I first played. I just love the game that much!

Definitely a game that has the benefit of hindsight. At the time, this was looking to be the future of 3D Mario from now on. Which was pretty concerning since it is no replacement for the more traditional 3D Mario imo. So I guess now that we know that isn't the case, can appreciate it more for what it is.

joking aside, ending is insanely good. the carnival shot and the credits shot (5:14) are so smart. it zooms out, and puts things into perspective. you almost think you're watching an official trailer, and then *wham* he throws you for a loop with clips from the old games, zooming out even further. tying all the loose ends. clever edit. very satisfying. also satisfying to not hear someone talking shit about a game studio or game company for once.

Yeah it is weird. I always loved this game. Had such a blast playing through it, soundtrack was excellent, graphics were pretty and levels were so well designed. But yet, the game is so forgettable. When your friend asks for Mario game recommendation, it's not like you would say 3D World or 3D Land. Funnily enough, I can barely even remember half of the game.

The only difference between the NSMB series and the 3D games is that NSMB recycles more assets and gameplay elements. This gives the devs more time to create new gameplay ideas, which is why each NSMB game has around 80 levels, more than any 3D Mario.
OG's who played on the wii u will remember the best part of this game was actually the end of the stages when you would see peoples posts about the level. Good times.

As long as both of you are decent at platform games (in a very broad sense, you can get infinite lives on the second level so dying a lot is ok) so one of you doesn't leave the other in the dust I would highly recommend it, especially if you get a little competitive because you get a crown on your character if you scored more points in the level than the other players
Bro a 12 year old could've came up with better marketing ideas than Nintendo during the Wii U era. Truly was a sad time to be a Nintendo fan because the games on that system were so good but no one cared.

3D world is what I actually imagined 3D Mario was going to be like, just the 2D Mario platformers in an isometric format. I think it's a way better follow-up to those old platformers than New Super Mario Bros ever was.

The only difference between the NSMB series and the 3D games is that NSMB recycles more assets and gameplay elements.
This gives the devs more time to create new gameplay ideas, which is why each NSMB game has around 80 levels, more than any 3D Mario.

@@victoriamather2267 I had a load of fun playing it when it came out with friends and siblings. As long as both of you are decent at platform games (in a very broad sense, you can get infinite lives on the second level so dying a lot is ok) so one of you doesn't leave the other in the dust I would highly recommend it, especially if you get a little competitive because you get a crown on your character if you scored more points in the level than the other players

The real reason why 3D World wasn't/isn't as beloved as every other home console 3D Mario is because we were all expecting the next leap for him; we were expecting Odyssey. Now that we've gotten that, most of us are willing to look at 3D World in a better light.
