  • Is it possible to score with the Cricut Joy? I am testing the scoring stylus for the Cricut Explore series in a Cricut Joy machine and to see if I can get it to work. All you have to do is use an adapter with your machine to get Cricut tools like this one to fit in your Joy. But will it score paper? Let's find out!

I worked in a printing company forever and I just want to point out you are folding the score the wrong way. Try folding with copy on the front of the card, the score will not crack as much and will be cleaner.

Go to all materials and make a new 1 called score only pressure all the way to the left and save, set score line as cut line and make 2 cards 1 with score line 1 without cut the score 1 first and set material as score only the cut line will score with stylus then put same paper back in and pick card stock and it will cut it out

I definitely wouldn't use this for just a score line on a card - can do that with a ScorPal - but this would be great for those Pop-up cards that require a score line when you don't know distances from the edge! (I realize you were just showing how to use the stylus) I like that you did the comparisions, but would I run it through the Joy 3 times? Probably not. Since all you have to do is "see" the score line, I would just throw the cardstock into my ScorPal or other scoring device and finish the job there. Much faster. :)) Great video though!

I was wondering something similar. I've had success with making actual cuts of "writing" letters by lying to the joy and saying I am going to a red foil. In reality, I add a blade instead of red foil. Tried the same method where I told it to "write" and I put a blade instead of a marker. The foil uses more pressure.
Wondering if one could have the Joy "foil" with a scoring stylus.
      Hope this helps!

Just want to circle back to this conversation. I just had really good success using both the scoring stylus with the adapter, and the foiling tool no foil, to get score lines! I followed the method in this video, except, instead of using "draw", I used the "foil" operation.
      Stats:
      Machine: Cricut Joy
      Paper: 65lb paper
      Paper setting: 65lb
      Pressure: light
Thanks kindly for this video! Now that the Joy has the foiling function, which like you said was not available at the time you made this video, it works out so beautifully!

I've been scoring with my Joy using my foil transfer tool. I'm thinking your not getting enough pressure because too much pressure could mess up pens. Have you tried setting the line to foil and using the scoring stylus? I think you might get more pressure.

I have had success in cutting paper by using the "foil" option with a writing font and loading with a blade instead of the foil tool. I've also tried doing a writing function and putting a blade, but it won't cut. The foil function uses more pressure than writing for sure.
Didn't think to score with the foil tool--thanks for that! Would like to compare "foil tool, no foil on paper, foil function" scoring vs "scoring stylus with adapter, foil function".

I have nothing to compare that to as there is no scoring tool for the Joy. There is no way that I know of to hold it in the Joy without an adapter either.

@@AngieHolden In the video you were comparing the scoring to the score produced with a stylus in your explorer. What I wonder is if you can lower the stylus a mm or so it might produce a better score line. In your pen comparison video you marked the pens to be at a certain depth. If you mark the stylus where the top of the adaptor is and put tape or something around the stylus so it sit just a fraction lower in the cradle it might score better.
