I live in Connecticut and these TH-cam videos are how I'm getting the best information. So thank you so much for sharing. My thoughts and prayers are with those families that have lost loved ones. I pray that our government doesn't let the people of these small communities down. 😔😔
Your genuine caring and compassion for the communities is beautifully demonstrated. Thank you for sharing and raising awareness for the many affected by the devastation.
I have been in Damascus on two occasions. My family did the Creeper Trail into Damascus in 2014, and we stayed at the Hikers Inn in Damascus with family friends in 2016. It breaks my heart to see this beautiful town in ruins. I hope they can recover quickly.
I thru hiked in 2011 at age 64. You have done an incredible job putting this together and I thank you and congratulate you for this tribute. I live in Georgia now but for 7 years in the 1970s I had an East Tennessee sales territory which included Erwin, Elizabethton, and on up to Roane Mountain. In the 1960s I went to school in Banner Elk, NC which now is isolated with bridges out. It is so sad to see what has happened to the area that I love. I don't even know where or how they will begin to build the roads, bridges, restore the power and water. This is worst than the damage done in any storm that I've seen films or pictures and will take so long to return. Thank you again Mountains Calling! Slow Eagle
Subscribed, even though I've never hiked on the AT and likely won't, given my age. Thank you for sharing this information. Your video is excellent. My heart goes out to the entire region as they struggle to put their lives back together. Love from an old woman in Ontario Canada.
Thank you so much for this video and letting people and hikers a insight to the devastation to these areas on the AT, I grow up in Erwin, TN it's like a war zone, thank you for sharing, so sad
As a fellow hiker and future AT hiker it is unfortunate how I found your channel. However, you done a thoughtful and respectful video bringing awareness. Thank you for sharing.
I was in hot springs Thursday a week ago today. The rain we got from that Monday till Thursday night caused the river to flood even before the storm actually hit. As I drove across the bridge I thought this river can’t handle 12 inches of rain. I think they got 20 inches and I’m heartbroken what has happened here in my community. Thank you for the coverage. Prayers and any help is much appreciated
I live in Oregon n thought no place could be as beautiful as our green pastures and pine tree covered miuntains but, these places are amazing. I went to Missouri n Oklahoma once n couldn't wait to get back to my mountains but I think I would love it here.. I wish there was something I could do. I've been so upset about the deviation n loss of life unlike any other disaster.. Pkease take care and I hope lot's of help comes soon.. Thank you for this video.. Love from Oregon.. ❤️
We are standing by.... what ive heard so far the best effort or place to donate... is for the local (and remote) aviation groups. they are organizing drops and all that....
Thank you for putting this together. Prayers go out to all the people affected. We are supposed to be going on the trail in 2 weeks...... probably not.
Thanks for this video. I spent quite a bit of time yesterday looking at videos of the destruction in Florida and up in western North Carolina and eastern Tennessee. Such widespread devastation. It’s just mind-boggling that a hurricane could do this kind of damage way up in the Appalachians, so far from the coast. I'm 67 and I've never seen anything like this. I have read that there are still over 600 people missing and unaccounted for. My heart goes out to all of the unfortunate people who were so profoundly affected by this event, and RIP to those poor souls who lost their lives in it. It's just shocking, and very sad. 😢
If you have an entire community wiped out, there's no one left to report losses. You're only going to be reported lost if you have a friend or family member who knows you are missing and is looking for you. And what about hikers or campers out on trails from other places. How are they going to be counted if they never return to their homes?
My sister lives in Newport Tennessee and she said the people controlling the dams didn’t know how much water to let out and they are the ones that caused it, if so this is horrible what their negligence did to so many .
Uncle Johnny's Hostel was the first hostel I ever stayed at when I started section hiking the AT. Has anybody been in touch with Charlotte, Johnny's widow? I would like to help with the clean up. Tented behind the over 100 years old barn at Mountain Harbour on a section hike. Heard the flood pushed it off it's foundation. Hope it's not demolished.
I haven't heard from anyone over at Uncle Johnny's, I texted but no reply. Im sure the have hundreds of messages coming in and can't answer them all. They did clean it up though, I saw some pictures yesterday of all the debris removed

Hey, thanks so much for sharing this video and for showing so much. I can't even imagine what these people must be going through right now. For more information on donations etc go check out Ramdino on the trail, his TH-cam channel. I'd say the Southern portion should be considered closed. Va. line South. Nobody can get to you to help. And; the people need the services and help so resentment will "set in" in hikers start coming in to hike just to hike. I really don't think there are any hikers "like that" tho. Now; this is a call to service tho for the skills. Taking supplies, insulin and water filtration to remote areas would be wonderful. Every WNC house would become a Hostel!
Another TH-cam hiker said on his channel that the ATC recommends this year's SOBOs get off the trail at the southern boundary of the Shenandoah National Park.
