It's on the WWII border called the Westwall, otherwise known as the Siegfried Line - while immersing yourself in German culture with the Forest Spirit Path German hike. What is it? The Westwallweg - Waldgeister loop hike is 6 miles, 950 ft up/down, soft trail with WWII war bunkers and a 2 mile long art exhibit with hand carved wooden statues of fantastical creatures.
If you're going with small kids and want something easier...you can skip the upper War section and do the Forest Spirit path German hike only. It's flat and 2.4 long, out and back. Park at the Schutzenhaus and it is stroller friendly. You'll get to see all the sculptures and skip the dramatic hills.
If you love history and art as an Outdoor exhibit, you'll love this hidden path close to the Weinstrasse near Oberotterbach.
