Hi Aneka. It would be really lovely to see a basic pattern tutorial on your channel. I mean I have been watching your videos since I had serious interest in sewing my own garments and I always refer back to them whenever needed, but still there is no basic pattern drafting on your channel. Hello, thank you for such a great video. I am making a basic silk tank top and wondering if darts at the side of the breast are necessary? I've seen both designs, with and without, but not sure which is 'correct'?
Hi Olivia, I presume the silk is a woven fabric? Not knitted or jersey? It really depends on your shape. I would suggest that you are curvy and have a full bust that darts will always make a garment hang better on the body. Unless the fabric is jersey, knit and very fitted to the body. Does that help? This one shows you how to measure and find YOUR bust apex and mark it on a pattern: th-cam.com/video/mdFUFPn6wbg/w-d-xo.html and this one shows you how to find the Bust Apex on a pattern: th-cam.com/video/Ns9Gpn8rD1A/w-d-xo.html I hope that helps. The Bust Apex should be the centre of your bust, the fullest part. The point of the dart is usually backed away from the Bust Apex; the distance depends on your shape/bust shape and the bra you are wearing. Standard distance is about 1", 2.5cm. Hope this helps? Can darts be used for men clothes or they have a different name?
Yes, they are used in men's clothing too, fitted trousers and shirts can have them, in the back of the body; in the waist and pointing to the hip.
