I've had this guitar over 5 years now. Easy to play and my go to guitar. The tone you get from this guitar is amazing. I like to use the Humbucker for my rock tone.
@Al Pacino To be honest, not really. Especially the higher up the neck. I normally play higher up the neck on the neck pickup and switch to the humbucker for the power cord stuff
I got one but I kinda hate it. I really love single coil bridge pick ups and I'm gonna get a coil switch for it but for now it's just gathering dust. Everything else sounds amazing but I just want the humbucker as an option that I'll rarely use. Edit: the glossy neck also bothers me a lot but I can fix that myself.
What color did you get ? im looking to get one like now and its artic white and im hoping it looks the same it does on tv - that off white almost aged white .
Just got mine today and I can't find a single flaw. Sounds great on my little fender amp but I have the new Engl Powerball amp also coming today. This is my first Stratocaster and I'm loving the sound. Love the humbucker in love the middle and neck together. Again, quality is epic. Perfect setup. Now I need to go out and buy locking tuners. Update. Mine is a newer model 2020. It has the vintage upgrades as a professional model.
Hi Sam, many thanks for your review and demo. I found it to the point, in terms of getting straight to the specs. of the HSS, and informative (sonically, as well as informationally). So few reviewers do this well, and I really appreciate your presentation. I have subscribed to PMTVUK based on your video.
Hi Sam just wanted to say you always show great detail weather it’s your guitars and also your amps and sound effects pedal. Keep up with your great work mate. Thanks.
I just wandered into a 2nd & Charles bookstore...and lo and behold...THEY SELL GUITARS THERE!!! WHO KNEW??? I sure didn’t! I picked up a used black Fender HSS Stratocaster! They wanted $450 but I got it down to $350 (rust on some of the screws). The previous owner didn’t take care of it. I gave it a good home. I would have preferred a white one but it’ll do!
I have this exact guitar. Fender “MIM” standard Stratocaster HSS, except mine is Brown Sunburst, maple neck. Love it. Great guitar. Much better than my old crappy Chinese Squier.
Ideally I would like to have two guitars, one with a single coil in the bridge and another with the humbucker in the bridge so I have options, however, i'm a bit strapped for cash so this isnt possible. I came across the squier vintage modified HSS (humbucker in the bridge a single coil in the middle and one in the neck) My question is, with this guitar, Can I still get the single coil bridge sound and also the humbucker bridge sound from this guitar? or is it strictly a humbucker sound in the bridge and I still have to get another guitar if I want that single coil bridge sound?
Okay, it's been a year and no one has answered your query. That's reprehensible. I would've expected better from the geetar community. Now, to answer your question... This model only splits the humbuggerer in position #2 on the pickup selector where it is split and blended with the middle pickup. You can't have just the bridge pickup in single coil mode. Prior to the Player Series' debut in 2018 Fender (MiM) had a Standard Series Strat with an HSH pickup configuration - which I have and adore. This model had a tone control for the bridge pickup that had a push/pull pot that split both humbuggerers. You could play the neck or bridge pickup by themselves in either single or double coil mode. The guitar offers nine different possible settings. They are GREAT guitars and you could likely find one for less than what the Player Series model sell for. I have the ghost silver model and photos do not do justice to how cool the guitar looks. It isn't a flat silver, it's sort of metallic flake and it sparkles. It was only offered in white, black & ghost silver with either a rosewood or pau ferro fretboard depending on when it was made.
great guitar for practicing various tones...it wont be as precise to the tone of a SSS strat or a telecaster but it can seemingly attempt both tones while also bringing its own specific signature with the 5th humbucker full on choice. The fact that you can have it full on then tone it down makes for a fun jam for a price point of 300-400$ pretty reasonable when you really think about what youre getting i like the neck too it was my first real guitar, my friends were blown away at what it could do its like a little trick stick thats priced and marketed to be a tool of disposal

fuc* yes. had this model for 13 years and i feel while not rare i dont see the HSS ALL thats often and now i know what i have. i love the humbucker at the bridge with two single coils, cmon best of both worlds. the middle pick up with the right amp setting can sound like a traditional bridge SCP
Man great demo so good, you just sold me I need a light semi versatile classic rock machine that's easy to play and with that Bassbreaker amp will be #2 on my list, thanks Sam! I hope that artic white is an off white though it looks that way.
Great review but I have a question which is better for rock playing does it make a difference or should I get a Stratocaster with an rosewood fretboard?
Depends on what tone you're looking for really...maple necks have a brighter tone while rosewood produce a warmer tone but the differences are tiny, some people say there is no difference at all. I prefer maple but its got to do more with the look of the guitar than tone. Both are fine for rock music.
Anyone knows the specs of the Fender Standard pickups? I know the singles have ceramic magnets. Is it the same for the humbucker? Thanks to anyone who knows.
Just bought a used mim hss w too hot rails in neck n mid...locking tuners steel trem block....440 bucks....first strat....any suggestions on replacement humbucker??
Hi, I'm sure the fender custom shop could create something for you like this. If you give your local PMT Store a call, they could organise that for you. -Lee Here's the link: www.pmtonline.co.uk/stores/
Yo compre una sss y no me acostumbro a estética hss, y juego heavy metal. Me gusta las sencillas recogidas. Todas sirven para cualquier estilo, no existen reglas para jugar Metal!!!
the whole concept with the "humbucker" is that you can turn 1 or the other off....on top of the single pickups.....to have a "synthetic" telecaster or stratocaster "sound" not exactly to the same sound of a sss or tele...but you can have the options of various setups of HSS all on SS, polarized HSS etc...its the claim to the HSS fame
It's almost as if these guys forget the guitar has a humbucker because you never hear anything heavier demoed in these hss reviews. Its pretty much funk and rhythm all the time

llegal friend, is the captaincy of the bridge in alnico too?
I just bought it !!! its sounds and plays awesome!!!!
We hope it serves you well! -Lee
can you adjust the tone on the humbucker

I want a Fender Strat Player Series HSS with coil splitting.
And I just want a Fender Strat HSS
This was a phenomenal demo. Shows it all, no gas bagging!

Gotta love those sealed die cast chooners

Getting one of these this weekend, but with the pao ferro fretboard, I'm so excited
I have this exact guitar. Fender “MIM” standard Stratocaster HSS, except mine is Brown Sunburst, maple neck. Love it. Great guitar. Much better than my old crappy Chinese Squier.
does the tone control work on the humbucker regards
We have exactly the same guitar, might i add you have a really good taste in guitars
Ive still got one of those squiers and its borderline unplayable bc the volume nob blows up the amp

Great video. Right to the point. And great information!
I have this axe and I love it!
Is there a version thats not humbucker on this lovely guitar?
looks and plays awesome, definitely a strat i'd love to own!
I've recently bought one of these, sounds the nuts!

Keep it up! Looking forward for more videos from you, don't stop!
With Seymour duncan SH4 its Pretty good guitar :)
Also you can get great 90s green day tones, since Billie Joe uses an HSS strat knockoff with an SH4 on the bridge
Or a Seymour Duncan Invader for those mad Blink 182 tones.
oui j ai une fender mexi hss avec micro duncan sh4 , franchement wouha
I hate the idea of buy a guitar and instantly having to fix the sound
Fab guitar. Look at that trem arm dangling though. Don’t know they don’t include the spring loading !!
Man great demo so good, you just sold me I need a light semi versatile classic rock machine that's easy to play and with that Bassbreaker amp will be #2 on my list, thanks Sam! I hope that artic white is an off white though it looks that way.
Great vid. Nice guitar
What is in the background? Beautiful lighting ? Is it spotlights or something? It makes the video look great
Those are rgb lights
Are 250 or 500 k pots used ..or a combo of both ?
Ik I'm a bit late on this but would this happen to be a 2009 model? I feel like I have this same guitar but I can't tell lol
Hey is this white strat for sale?
I love the tone!
How do I tell if mines a standard??
Is the electronics set up like the Shawbucker American model where the bridge pickup ohms change when used in conjunction with the single coils?
i have the same one. i even swapped the bridge for a shawbucker humbucker, but it still souds kind of weak. is that the amp that is the problem then?
Just got one today
How much is it? Is it same with American standard? Or is it just 'Standard Strat HSS'? Sorry if for the silly question, I want to order it!
do they not sell it on the fender site? i cant find any with the word "standard" in it
I think they are now called Player series.
Great review but I have a question which is better for rock playing does it make a difference or should I get a Stratocaster with an rosewood fretboard?

Exactly. It’s all personal preference. I own this guitar with a maple neck and going back to playing rosewood is just so weird for me.
Tram I've had Strats with both maple and rosewood. I really don't hear the difference at all, I just like the look of a maple neck Strat.
It really doesn't make a difference as long as it's comfortable.
Anyone knows the specs of the Fender Standard pickups? I know the singles have ceramic magnets. Is it the same for the humbucker? Thanks to anyone who knows.
Not sure but they sound great..I have a 15 model Hss.
Just bought a used mim hss w too hot rails in neck n mid...locking tuners steel trem block....440 bucks....first strat....any suggestions on replacement humbucker??
Keith Stoltzfus organic pickups-the mirror , better than di marzio
Now i bougth it and i chang bridge pickup to shawbuker2 so look like american pro lol.
is it pink?
why do these demos always start with DISTORTION???
gerald mcgee It prepare your ears. For R&R
Is it available with 22 frets and a Floyd Rose? Where can I get details?

Absolutely love it.
Does anyone know what sort of used value these things hold?? Spotted a 2009 one in my local cash convertors today at £240
240?!?!?! it costs 600$ here
Jon Trownson Stolen
I just found a used one for $300
Yo compre una sss y no me acostumbro a estética hss, y juego heavy metal. Me gusta las sencillas recogidas. Todas sirven para cualquier estilo, no existen reglas para jugar Metal!!!
Tocar metal, no jugar.
"Extra BITE and grunt"? Single coils have more 'bite' than humbuckers.
Anyways, great guitar.

andola jackson I wasn't talking about that
I don't know about single coils but I did heard a tele thinline copy with a strat neck pickup that did!
It's almost as if these guys forget the guitar has a humbucker because you never hear anything heavier demoed in these hss reviews. Its pretty much funk and rhythm all the time
"Hi guys I'm Sam from PROFESSIONAL music technology"
I'm shock at how good it sounds.
Wayne's world LoL Love it.. Party on man LoL
21 frets? Ffs
What happen to your middle finger?
You should use more air when you talk
Pilkingtong i agree with Jesse Pinkman
