really love how you analyze what is actually going on, so many reactions i have seen don’t actually get or understand why colin is acting the way he is or they are just hating on him just because he is acting different this season when that’s the point 😭 he is trying to be something he isn’t.
It’s so tough in the discourse because you can’t even mention media literacy to people like that or mention that they need to be a little more attentive in comprehending the covert and overt character moments.
I get media literacy has become a buzz word and is used in a smug ‘catch all’ way, and people can think what they want about media and subjectively feel how they like.
But you can just tell there’s some opinions formed with bias, projection and mean spiritedness this season, more than I’ve seen vs previous seasons.
Meanwhile, this season I’ve objectively appreciated the shift of tone the most.
I know Bridgerton tonally stays pretty lighthearted and bright, but the themes they are trying to tie in with Colin’s people pleasing, mirroring and hyper sexual behaviour because of normalized male rite of passage is interesting. If I had a critique on Bridgerton in general is I wish the run time was longer so we can Dig even deeper into that stuff and have more time for flashback and character centred episodes.
I’ve enjoyed the plot beats they’ve chosen and so far this season feels the most rewatchable.
@@surette2012 Media literacy is an expanded conceptualization of literacy that includes the ability to access and analyze media messages as well as create, reflect and take action, using the power of information and communication to make a difference in the world.
People not liking how Colin is written doesn’t mean that they lack media literacy
@@surette2012 media literacy doesn't mean what you think it means 💀😂
@@kc87557 No, I know. It can just be applied to different text, though. I’ve actually had this conversation before and tried to correct someone using it, and we had a cool back and fourth about it and researched a bit.
Fiction doesn’t exist in a vacuum and the definition of media literacy is kind of an umbrella term for the idea of approaching a text in more than just a superficial way in media. Understanding intention and being aware of your bias and honing contextual understanding. Having all that in order to also create media.
Coined for irl media, news, journalism, digital aged misinformation and propaganda, I believe. There was a Big focus especially after ww2 and recent technological developments.
Bare bones it’s just being able to analyze media messages.
But the concept can be introduced into fiction analysis and interacting with a work on a deeper levels. Because fiction and reality intertwine. All points of media literacy are equally relevant to fiction.
I think with Colin it’s not trying to attack people subjectively not liking him, but the reaction of people that genuinely believe he’s a rake or changed and didn’t pick up the contextual clues. It’s not that deep, though. Hence why I avoid saying media literacy for this reason lol.
At this point it’s easier to shave off the ‘media’ of the term and just say literacy and comprehension in fiction because semantics are killing us.
@@Pillowlips77 aw condescending and cute with it 🤭❤️
My theory: He changed so much this summer because Pen didn’t awnser his letters, so subconsciously he was missing something and he went searching for it in other women
I was also recently thinking about the effect of Penelope not responding to his letters in how he's approaching the season this year; with his masquerade continental 'bronze'. After his last trip, the person he felt he really got to know what's himself. But that's when Pen's words, Pen's vision of who he is in his head. Through her words. He had to direct himself this time, and spun around in a circle a little bit. They both needed that time not speaking to come to the place that they are in this season; which is important
I kinda like the different vibe compared to S1 and 2. The friends to lovers trope is harder to pull off than strangers falling in love but it can also be more rewarding because you have all of this backstory on the characters. It’s a different kind of longing. Btw, I thought the kiss was really well done. For Pen it’s like a goodbye. Because of what her mum says to her beforehand she thinks she has to let go of her hopes for Colin. That’s why she can gather the courage to ask. Because she thinks this will be the end of it and she’s never getting anything more from him than that kiss. It’s sad and romantic at the same time. But Pen doesn’t know that what’s the end for her is the beginning for Colin. They’re just never at the same stage in their relationship. Always out of step with each other
Which I think is beautiful. Particularly to the theme of the season.
This season was beautiful
Friends to lovers is my favorite troupe. And I agree they did the kiss well
I thinks its important to note how pivotal the irony of their kiss is. This is the moment she is letting go of the dream of colin loving her back and also the moment it really starts to sink in for him that he wants her so the tables have almost fully turned the other way. She sees it as he did her a favour and he couldnt possibly want more but he realises he does and he doesnt know wbout her feelings so rhey are in this kind of limbo
It was in S1 that Anthony had sex with Sienna (including in public). But in S2 he also visited sex workers multiple times, at the beginning, and it was very transactional.
Anthony said in S1 that he should have taken Colin to brothels. Marina said in S2 that he was a boy lost in fantasies. Colin wants to be seen as a man, as one of the guys, so he flirts with women, and he visits brothels too. Differently from Anthony, though, he actually interacts with the sex workers, kisses both, gives them equal attention.
Colin and Penelope's romance is subtler, and more realistic, as you said. The previous couples, when they were getting to know each other, were kind of over the top and even toxic, sometimes.
I think it's great that we see a different dynamic now, because there isn't much point in telling the same story again with little variation.
You caught on so quick to Colin’s mask. Love this. Excellent analysis of the psyche of the characters.
Just had to look at the first and second season . It was kind of obvious, to quick for a character change
@@IAmSeanThompson Well, you’d be surprised how many people who have watched the previous seasons were super confused as to why he’s acting so out of character this season. To me is very clear he’s trying to act more like his brothers (like sleep around) because he feels like that’s what is expected of him, and not because that’s actually what he wants to do. But apparently that’s not so obvious to a lot of people.
it's actually kinda scary how accurate your predictions/theories are 😭😭 anw i do thoroughly enjoy your reactions and it is nice to see someone not blindly hating on colin's characterization esp seeing the brothel scene.
i also understand why you might think polin might not hit the same way as the previous couples and that is totally true. they are different. but i don't think that makes them any less than kanthony or daphmon. love doesn't always have to be sudden, fiery, passionate, and full of lust. it can also be gradual, sweet, pure, and even a little awkward which is exactly what polin is and is why i love this season so much (i'm a sucker for the latter so my opinion may be a bit biased 😅)
I just have a thing about deeply analysing characters actions and thought process . After that guessing 80-90% of things is kind of easy
Brilliant observation of how Colin started looking through his window back toward her house now - I missed that detail on my watchthrough!
i love how you’re giving this season a chance. refreshing compared to lots of other reactions i’ve watched. and love how you actually try to understand the characters!! also your accurate predictions are wild 😅
your understanding of his character is a breath of fresh air ily
How is my guy predicting so many of the plotlines 😂
I didn't like S1 & haven't rewatched it. LOVED S2, loved the passion and enemies to lovers. I'm hooked on this season though, and I don't usually like friends to lovers. They're both such flawed characters, Colin has a lot of love & nowhere to put it (writes to his family, they don't reply, buys them all thoughtful gifts, etc.) and Pen is so unloved she thinks any compliment is a mockery. They're both masking and yet they're only comfortable around one another. I also really like the pacing so far. Not too much just yet. Looking foward to seeing them settle into themselves/them as a pair.
This season is so far my favorite. It's subtle and more romantic vibe to me.
Penelope and Colin have crack on, because i'm addicted to them. I've never been this obsessed with the details of the performances and their thoughts.
I think you are the only reactor I have seen so far that has clocked it right away that it was the girl behind Cressida and Eloise who spread the gossip about Penelope and Colin and not Cressida. 😊
You're predicting so many things that it is hard to believe this is your first watch!!!! 😳
I like the show but it’s pretty obvious. The only think difficult to guess is how and when Penelope will get caught .
I'm so happy you're doing this Sean!!!❤
Love you IMMEDIATELY getting all that off the title 😂
If I were a screenwriter, I'd hire you to review scripts and find plot holes or obviousness. I thought so, probably years ago now, when we saw Hill House "together". It's a shame I haven't seen more episodes of Once Upon a Time. you would love their plot twists
At this point she should have just smelled his jacket 😂😂😂. Every reaction video I’ve seen about this episode has mentioned that
I thought it to, Anthony did number on us with his sniffing 😂
oh dude can't wait for ur reaction to ep 3 & 4
Episode 4 last 5 minutes is crazy !
😂 but you called it in the reaction to ep 3, that it would be crazy! Excited
Great analyzation. I do really appreciate your reaction.
Its soooo refreshing to see a reactor actually analyse things. INCREDIBLE.
Btw i love this couple more and i have never been more invested in a bridgerton couple (maybe even any tv couple).
I just relate to pen a lot. And i love colin. I like that they have a healthy relationship. I dont need a screaming "hate" driven lust, love declaration.
I like that they arent strangers, its so romantic imo. We could see the buildup. Also some looks colin gave her in s1 and s2 were looking like a lot more than friendship alread, i think he just never really went deeper with it, bc for one pen was always eloise bff and she was younger than him. With her now being 20 thats not so strange anymore and he sees her more like a woman now.
Its a slow burn, but a damn good one!
Ah finally a reactor who’s getting it so well!!! Bravo!
My only issue with this season’s part 1 is the lack of scenes between them. For him to see her in a different light and for that to be believable I needed more interaction between the characters… too many story lines at the same time and too little for them.
You're so accurate with saying it's not meant to be lustful 😂😂that's what people don't understand
LOL... I loved the review. Very thorough and entertaining 🤣🤣
Hi from Indianapolis! Your analysis of Regency society and storytelling are SO great and on point! Would love if you would go back and do episode by episode of S1 & S2 so we could see what you think of the episodes you previously skipped. Love seeing your reactions! I hope you do the entirety of S3 and other historical pieces! Thanks for your efforts and Keep up the great work!⭐️
"Inserts himself? Inserts himself where?!"
🤣🤣🤣
Phillipa is so funny this season. What a delightful ditz. Yeah, Albion was probably a virgin until Portia informed her about sex 😅
It's kinda cute that they were perfectly happy just making out until Albi soiled himself. But maybe Phillipa is a really good kisser like Pen? 🤔
Great reaction video! Keep up the good work, would love to see your reaction to the other episodes too:)
Simon and Anthony both visited brothels in their seasons.
Simon is not in the books. If I remember correctly, he makes a brief appearance in Eloise's story. The books are centered on the Bridgerton family so Daphne shows up more than Simon.
You are such a good and thoughtful reactor. I loved/love watching some of your stuff from years ago, but I swear you're so much better now. Smarter? Like you breathe clearer? it doesn't really seem like something that happens naturally with every reactor. I think you've got a little something special. 🙂
You sort of pushing Colin to kiss her is so funny. In the book Colin was scared to kiss her because what if he wanted that kiss too
5:32 ❤ 7:33 ❤😂
Anthony was sleeping with sex workers at the beginning of season two when he was courting all the women in the Ton. He stopped when he began to court Edwina and met Kate.
please please react to season 2... it's sooo amazing
not to be that guy but
first
Please watch Culpa Mia
hiu
First ❤
