I’m just giving my Van a break. I’ll be back with my baby!! I will not be leaving the country until next year. I’m living out of a backpack as a test run to prepare for next years travel. When you put your van in storage, put some mothballs or bay leafs around your storage and up you exhaust pipe and where ever mice can get in from outside. Some bay leaves put around your van, especially in cupboards / counter and where ever you had any food storage will also help keep bugs away - a nifty tip we picked up in Arizona.
Because of you, I now want to do some SUV traveling from time to time with my dog. I'm a senior citizen and it's something my mother wanted to do but my father would not go with her. Now, she's gone and at this late age I want to do what I see you doing. I love your hikes, I love your appreciation of nature and your spirituality and... of course your cooking. Can't wait to see where you are off too next.

Been out of the loop for a bit. My dad died Sept. 11 and my mom followed Sept. 18. Needless to say I have been busy. Now things are starting to slow down and I’m sad. I was very close to my parents and I miss them terribly. I’m excited for ur new adventure. Can’t wait to see where you r headed.

Good luck with the dry run and have fun! It's a good idea to do a few weeks of trying in "controlled circumstances" and with a secured fall back you know in case anything goes wrong. Better make the mistakes at home than on the other side of the planet.
The main thing I noticed from all the other Van-to-backpacks is all the trouble they have with trains, oh and going over budget, and deciding between a hotel or hostel. So good luck and have fun!!!!

Hey dear, regarding bringing a towel with you. You can look into a camping towel. I’ve had a chamois towel (shammy) I’ve been using for more than ten yrs. They are smaller and thinner than regular towels and twice as absorbent. Now, however, there are also microfiber towels, once again, smaller, so take up a lot less space when packing, but very absorbent and efficient for showering, gym, swimming, any towel needs. These are supposed to be even better than shammy. Look into them instead of packing a reg towel. Loving your journey. Every time you move into a new stage, it’s right in line with what I wish to do! Peace!

I put a smaller bugoutbag together and used it for a 3 day trip. I learned what I needed and what I didn't. Once home I repacked. I change it with warm weather and cold weather. It's in a spot I can grab and go, if needed.
Just be safe and I wish I had that much freedom. When I was a truck driver I loved the open road and I was able to travel. I do miss it. We will be watching and praying for you. 😊

One bag travel is the way to go!! i did it in Bali and Egypt!! Everywhere in the world has laundromats 😂😂 Also, many hotels have inexpensive laundry services! GOOD LUCK & SAFE TRAVELS!!!

I took a small pay cut but moved away from a very pricey city. In the long run, I’ve come out ahead with reasonable housing, etc.
