with the last updates (september 2013 or something, basically the trophies update) you can do a "full install" in the options menu from the start and it won't bother you ever again

Maybe I am a little late but, if you un-equip the Solid Eye you can see, where the radar is supposed to be, the wind's direction. Crying wolf can't see you rather she smells you and knowing the wind direction will help you a lot.

Having just played and beaten the game for the first time yesterday, I discovered that the bed works just as well against Octopus as it does the Haven Troopers. Just hide under it and be patient. She will be forced to chase you and you can shoot or Tranq the hell out of her as she shoots at you with her P90. Not only that, but because her P90 is fairly inaccurate and you're mostly covered she only gets a couple hits in per burst which heal up near immeadiately. The only times you have to come out are when she hides, but the moment after you do, back under the bed you go. So all in all, Octopus is just as easily cheesed by a Bed as Wolf is by a truck. The Tentacle Monster can't get you while you're hiding under the bed. Hope you see thus!
I love these videos, if there's any criticism I have, it'd be that sometimes the subtitles go by too quick and I'd often have to rewind a little bit and pause the video to read it. If they're onscreen a little longer, it'd be perfect :D
For the Act 2 escape, you won't recover health if you're on the .50 cal gun. However, you do have infinite ammo and you WILL heal if you stay kneeling. It takes a bit more time than just going for the doors, and you may have to CQC or fight soldiers, but it'll recover a bar or two of life if you messed up the prior section and don't want to use an item.

Heres a tip for the frog fight before the mantis boss fight, on the first wave knock all the frogs out except 1, then throw a smoke grenade at him and shoot him with the tranq gun. If you see his stamina run out while hes in the smoke he will stand there coughing even though he should be out, throw another smoke and when its done and he faints it skips the next 2 waves and begins the boss fight
I remember the bike chase scene going non lethal. I'll spare the blood boiling reasons why it put a halt on my Big Boss Rank for like an hour, but it's the reason why I'm glad MGSV made non lethal rifles.

Hope it's true, using the tranq gun on laughing octopus was a nightmare.
Can confirm, obtained FOX rating on hard using this strategy more than two years ago.
Though it's worth noting if you're trying to unlock the Solar Gun, you do need to non-lethal the Beasts.
